Argumentative Essay: Should Schools Have Homeroom?

It would give the a little space to breathe a minute, and sit with friends. It would take away some of their stress, to sit and talk with some of their friends. Instead of the alternative of sitting there worried over how much time you have, and trying to choke down your food to finish it. Sometimes not even getting to say a word to anyone. Kids already stress enough over their work, and out of school activities, or things happening a home. So why do they need anymore stress? Stress causes kids to do bad academically, because it wears them down, making it hard for them to do their best. Kids might even get a little time to do some of their work at lunch, if given even a little bit of extra time. If you have forgotten an assignment, and you don't have study hall or panther time you're out of luck. Unless you do it at lunch, but with how much time were given now, that would mean giving up eating.

How would the population react if the schedule that structures many peoples’ entire year were to change? This change is a reality for a growing number of families across the country as a method of improving primary and secondary education through year-round school. Although many have come to accept or even embrace year-round school in an effort to help students retain more material, year-round school would actually disrupt the learning environment, be potentially detrimental for students and their family’s financial health, as well as that of the schools, and could take away from family and personal time.

Recess is as important as classroom time. It is critical in development and social interaction (Rochman). Students should be able to go blow off steam, run around for a half hour, let out some energy halfway through their day. Recess can also teach young kids responsibility. If he or she gets in trouble, the school can take it away from them. This teaches children that their actions have consequences. It helps children practice conflict and resolution. “Play time benefits extend beyond the physical development in students but affects social, emotional and cognitive development,” (Rochman). As an active college student, the question of whether or not college is worth the investment is an important one to consider. With tuition rates continuing to rise every year in an economy slowly recovering from a deep recession, alternative paths of career development such as trade school, military service, or entrepreneurship have become more appealing than ever. For the average person however, research reveals when it comes to employment access and stability, securing higher levels of income, and long-term job satisfaction, a college degree is still the most reliable and safest road to travel.

There goal was to get their students to get off their phones and let them relax for 15 minutes. These students also have the opportunity to try something that they've never tried before and get creative. What they concluded after trying recess was that it built a community with the students and teachers. Because of the students interacting with the teachers they were able to get to know each other better which will help them interact better in the classroom. Students can sometimes complain about how long the school year is and how they cannot wait for summer. There is a solution to this problem and it is known as year-round schooling. This helps to fix many problems for students. It gives them vacation time between each semester, allowing their brains to have a time of rest. Also, with a shorter summer break it allows for student´s brains to not forget extensive amounts of information. Since students do not lose the information over the summer this accounts for less reviewing time and more time to learn about new subjects. With more education upon the student it allows them to test higher than other non-year-round schoolers. There are year-round schools and they should spread throughout all high schools, in the United States, because it will be beneficial to the students.

Duke University once said, “In many ways, year-round schools fit better with American lifestyles." From the school year 1987-1988 to the school year 2002-2003, there was a 544 percent expansion in the usage of year-round school implementations among the public schools of the United States. Fortunately, the number is still growing. The United States’ students are falling behind students in other countries with our current style of schooling. Year-round school is a solution to that problem.

Is College Worth the Price? When people in highschool think about college the first thing that comes to mind is how long they have been in school and how much longer they will be in school if they attend college. On average, a child is placed in public education for around thirteen years. If one was to go into depth and break down that time it would equal about seventeen thousand and seven hundred fifty hours worth of school.

There are still 180 total schools days but the days are spread out over the year.

Schools have been debating if they should get rid of sports in their districts, because they’re wondering if these extracurricular activities have been causing a problem for their students. While some scholars agree with this change most teachers are rejecting this change and want them to stay. Therefore, schools should have sports because they can help students relieve themselves of stress, kids can learn to work as a team, and children of all kinds can have equal opportunities to play them.

The question that haunts America’s growing population of high school upperclassmen, “is college worth it?” As the price of a college degree increases, as well as the cost of room and board and meal plans at schools, it can be hard to justify such a high cost. But, in some cases this money can find its way back to the student, while in other cases student debt can be crippling for a lifetime. Like anything, there comes a time where you need to weigh out your options. College is a personally and educationally diversifying experience, but not all Americans will find value in a college degree.

In discussions of whether or not schools should start later, one controversial issue has been that it gets in the way of parents work schedules. People who believe that it’s too much of an inconvenience claim that it’s never too soon to start getting used to an early schedule. On the other hand, those who believe schools should start later assert that it’s much better for a student's concentration and overall health. My own view is there are more benefits than negatives and we should really start to consider such a change.

Homeschooling, not very well known, presents a new and affordable way to educate children. “Home school is a term used to refer to the education of children by their parents or guardians in a setting other than a public or private school” (Anderman & Anderman, p. 467). It has never been a new thing; it just has not been as popular as it used to be (Lines, p. 76). With this topic meaning so much to groups for and against the right for homeschooling and what should be legalized or not, the debate still rages on from local to even national government entities.
