Argumentative Essay: Should Schools Have Homeroom?

In order to be classified as a teaching facility, the building must offer courses the mandatory courses such as english, science, and math, however, school that offer those courses typically have additional classes students must take. One class that is optional in a teaching facility is homeroom, however, I believe every school should have one. Why have homeroom if it is not required? I believe every school should have homeroom because it prepares the students for their future. Homeroom is an opportunity for students to gain excess knowledge. Without homeroom, where would the school schedule club meetings? The possibility of having a club meeting after school where a majority of the members could attend would be nearly nonexistent since Students have buses to catch after school or some form of practice. They are not allowed to take time from our lunch to meet, so homeroom acts as a sanctuary for club meetings. Meetings would also affect attendance in classes because if a school did not have homeroom, meetings could be scheduled during class periods causing students to miss essential information. Homeroom is useful in such a way that it can host meetings for clubs so students have information for the next day or upcoming events within that club. Personally, I meet with sixth graders every Thursday during homeroom through a club called “Homeroom Buddies”. The group is to help and guide younger classmen into a good future with organizational skills. The 15 minute period acts as an opportunity for students to connect with someone they can depend on throughout high school to give them advice and the information they seek. The advisor typically reads the students the announcements, even though students have access to them all day, it’s still beneficial to remind them of them. Often times, at the end of the day, the only thing on a student’s mind is going home while having homeroom would act as a chance for them to remember scholarships they wanted to apply for or whether they should bring a lunch for the next day. Without having an advisor there to emphasize the importance of the announcements, students would leave and come to school unprepared. Making a connection with a homeroom teacher is essential. It allows for students to have someone in an authoritative position guide them in the direction of success, push them to excel, and offer them any advice they need to guarantee the students have a safe and happy time throughout high
