Argumentative Essay: Should The Government Should Legalize Marijuana

Growing up, I’ve always been taught that drugs are bad, and my parents have always told me that there is nothing good to them. I remember taking D.A.R.E in fifth grade, learning how marijuana was bad for you and that you should go to jail if you use it. My teachers and parents were my role models though, so I took in everything they told me as a fact, until now. Now I realize that drugs are a good thing. Drugs are a way of life, and they are used by millions of people everyday. There are drugs such as advil, which is used to help patients who suffer from many things, including headaches and fevers. But the drug i’m talking about is marijuana.

Marijuana has been used in religious ceremonies or for medical purposes for thousands of years. I have always been against the use of Marijuana up until four years ago when my husband at the age of twenty seven underwent invasive surgery on his knee and has never been the same since. Colorado took a huge step several years ago legalizing marijuana for medical use and in recent years took the plunge to legalize it for recreational use. Marijuana is not always a bad thing nor is it always a good thing. A lot of people will compare it to any other mind altering substance and have very valid points. I would rather have a loved one or myself smoke marijuana or ingest it, instead of popping pain pills or other harmful substances put on the market by the pharmaceutical industry; Recreational use can be safe and accepting if it is regulated correctly and used responsibly.

Many year in United States has been a congress war for legalization of cannabis. Many states had approved to legalize marihuana, some of them just medicine marihuana, others such as Colorado and Washington the cannabis is recreative. Here in Florida cannabis should be legal, medicine and recreative. People should not be restricted to the use of a plant that grows from earth. No one before has ever died of a marihuana overdose. Cannabis is much safer than already legalized drugs. The city is going to have a huge income by cannabis shop owners.

I think weed should be legal because people with pain problems need to smoke weed to feel better. It’s more of a pain distracter than a pain killer. This means that finances which would have otherwise been used for development would be redirected towards the provision of health care services to marijuana users. While people are still learning about the risks and rewards of the use of marijuana, the data has showed overwhelming results. While there is opposition to marijuana because it is thought of as dangerous and hazardous, the benefits for medical marijuana usage greatly outweigh the risks.

Politicians have not completely made up their mind on the use of marijuana becoming legal. There have been many complications of the use of marijuana in when, where, why, and how it should be used. Marijuana should not be legalized, however its uses should only be for medical purposes.

In American the issue on the legalization of marijuana has quickly become controversial. Whether people smoke it or not, they all have their own thoughts and opinions on it. We can find many reasons for and against this issue, but the argument against it unbeatably outweighs the others. Our country has outlawed this drug for good reasons and it needs to stay outlawed.
