“Gay People can’t do this. Women shouldn’t be able to that. But touch my semiautomatic rifle and you’re attacking my rights.”- Remi Kanazi
Why should someones rights to marry be based on a person religious beliefs or their own opinion on family values. Gay Marriage: If they like they should be able to put a ring on it.
Same sex couples should be allowed to publicly celebrate their relationship in the same way as heterosexual couples. The Human Rights Campaign Foundation states that many same sex couples want the right to legally marry and honor their relationship in the greatest way our society has to offer...". Also same couples should have access to the same benefits enjoyed by heterosexual married couples. Many benefits are only

A study published on Apr. 13, 2009 in Social Science Quarterly found that laws permitting same sex marriage or civil unions have no adverse effect on marriage, divorce, and abortion rates, or even the percent of children born out of wedlock. And also gay marriage legalization is correlated with lower divorce rates, while the ban on gay marriages are correlated with higher divorce rates. Studies shown that Massachusetts, which became the first state to legalize gay marriage in 2004, had the lowest divorce rate in the country in 2008. Its divorce rate declined 21% between 2003 and 2008. Alaska, which altered its constitution to prohibit gay marriage in 1998, saw a 17.2% increase in its divorce rate. The seven states with the highest divorce rates between 2003 and 2008 all had constitutional prohibitions to gay marriage.
If the reason for marriage is strictly reproduction, infertile couples would not be allowed to marry. Ability to create offspring has never been a qualification for marriage. George Washington, often referred to as "the Father of Our Country,” did not have children with his wife Martha Custis. Also there are plenty of children in foster homes waiting to be adopted by couples it should not matter if they couple is gay. As long as the couple is financially sound and has a good household environment there should be no problem with adopting kids. It shouldn’t matter if a child has 2 mothers or 2 fathers a family
Gay marriage is a topic that is so often discussed by those with highly diverse opinions. As some people agree with those of the same sex pursuing marriage, others do not seem to feel the same way. This fact can apply to individuals as well as entire countries. Several of these individuals and countries originally agreed with the subject of gay marriage as others were required to be forced due to the fact that their ban on gay marriage was decided as unconstitutional. Same-sex marriage is a controversial issue in today's world where some choose to agree with the decision of homosexual people and some choose to oppose it, all doing so usually for different reasons.
Beyond wanting to uphold the legal principles of nondiscrimination and equal treatment, supporters say that there are very practical reasons behind the fight for marriage equity. They point out that homosexual couples who have been together for years often find themselves without the basic rights enjoyed by many heterosexual couples who legally marry- from the sharing of health and pension benefits to hospital visitation rights.
benefits of marriage. However, they argue that a gay partnership should not have the designation
“Civil marriage between individuals of the same-sex is therefore an issue in which fundamental human rights are at stake “(Love Is a...). If people are of legal age they should be able to be with whomever they would like. “The denial of equal civil recognition of same-sex relationships prevents many people from accessing other rights, such as rights to housing and social security, and stigmatizes those relationships in ways that can fuel discrimination and other human rights abuses against people
I, for one, would love to be there when the proponent of such an argument is to explain to his post-menopausal mother or impotent father that since they cannot procreate, they must now surrender their wedding rings! That would be fun to watch! Again, such an argument fails to persuade based on the marriages society does allow routinely, without even a second thought. Same-sex couples aren't the optimum environment in which to raise children. That's an interesting one, in light of who society does allow to get married and bring children into their marriage. Check it out: murderers, convicted felons of all sorts, even known child molesters are all allowed to freely marry and procreate, and do so every day, with hardly a second thought by these same critics. So if children are truly the priority here, why is this allowed? Why are the advocates of this argument not working to prohibit the above categories of people from raising children? The fact is that many gay couples raise children, adopted and occasionally their own from failed attempts at heterosexual marriages. Lots and lots of scientific studies have shown that the outcomes of the children raised in the homes of gay and lesbian couples are just as good as those of straight couples. The differences have been shown again and again to be insignificant. Psychologists tell us that what makes the difference is the
4. Gay marriage allows both gay partners to have equal rights and they get access to the benefits for married couples. Earlier, gay couples could not enjoy any of those since they were not even recognized as couples by the state or country. The couple is able to access all of the same marital benefits as their straight counterparts. Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) couples who are able to marry can receive the same tax breaks that straight couples do and are also able to adopt children. Married LGBT couples can access the same assistance as heterosexual couples and are afforded the same amount of protection
Just about everyone has an opinion on legally allowing same-sex couples to marry. The arguments range from personal beliefs to what marriage is said to be in the Bible. Why should a couple be forbidden from showing each other along with family and friends that they are fully committed to each other? What place is it for the government to say that said couple is not allowed to commit to the one who truly makes you happy? Why should these people who are willing to be together for better or worse, in sickness and health, for richer or poorer not get the respect, consideration, and benefits that any opposite sex couple are granted?
First and foremost, gay marriages should not be allowed in the United States because we all as humans were not put on this earth to
Although some religions and people have made their views clear and opposing, this should not stop the rights movement as the banning of marriage as a whole – whether it be homosexual or heterosexual– is against the US Constitution. Moreover, legalizing gay marriage means more weddings, which strengthens the economy through the simplest things such as catering or venues. Among these, there are many other benefits of the legalization of same-sex marriage that far outweigh any possible negatives. Although some say it is against their religion, marriage alone is a basic human right as well as protected by multiple additions in the US Constitution, and therefore should be legal across all fifty
There should be no question of who should and should not be allowed to get married. The issue should never have existed in the first place because love has no gender. The definition of love is “an intense feeling of deep affection,” and nowhere does it mention a man and or a woman. So can you tell me that love is not the reason people get married? It is, and love exists in all shapes and forms and should always be respected. “To issue a marriage license, which conflicts with God’s definition of marriage, with my name affixed to the certificate, would violate my conscience,” Kim Davis states (Blinder, 10). It is obvious discrimination when you take away heterosexual rights just so that you can claim that as the reason you are also taking away homosexual
Nowadays, the same-sex couples have the right to marry under the constitution, just like any the straight couples, however, on the other hand, the opponents have different beliefs. Most their objection comes from religiosity and conservative backlash. These people believe that a real marriage is between a man and a women, if it comes from two people with same gender, it does not only destroy the norm of traditional marriage and violates natural law, but also oppose the Bible. However, the marriage definition is not about making sex, because it is totally about love. Both the traditional marriage and same-sex marriage are beyond the different religions, philosophies, education levels, financial backgrounds, careers, passions, hobbies, skin colors, so if people love someone enough, they should have the right to marry the one they love. In addition, the same-sex marriage does not against any religions, because all of religions spread
Same sex couples have access to the same benefits as straight couples. For example, there are social security benefits, tax benefits, veteran and military benefits, federal employment benefits, and immigration benefits just like straight couples. The Supreme Court ruled that the section of DOMA defining marriage as between a man and a woman violates the Equal Protection Clause and is therefore unconstitutional(Kathleen Michon, 2015). The rules for eligibility
Jennifer Pizer states, “We absolutely agree that marriage is a special word for a special institution. We disagree that the social institution should be available only in a discriminatory manner and that it serves any social purpose to exclude gay and lesbian couples” (qtd. in Jost “Gay Marriage Showdown” 2). Marriage is between two people who make a promise to love one another unconditionally. Currently, many heterosexual marriages are being rushed into due to difficult circumstances, such as teen pregnancy or the need to marry their significant other at a young age. As Andrew Koppelman states in his argument, “The appropriate response to unplanned pregnancy is the shotgun marriage. Same-sex marriage, by ignoring gender and separating sex from reproduction, seems to flout this complex of values” (qtd. in Jost “Gay Marriage” 1). Unlike some heterosexual couples, homosexual relationships are based on nothing but love for their significant other. For people to say that marriage is strictly between a man and a woman, they are not fully aware of what a good marriage is built off of. A man can love a man, and a woman could love a woman. With a man and woman getting married, it affects no one’s life except their own. What is so different about a homosexual couple? Why must they suffer from not being able to marry who they want because they fell in love with someone of the same gender? If a homosexual couple gets married it is only affects them. Supporting gay marriage and gay rights does not mean one will become gay, they just understand that gay people are human as well, and they deserve just as much as any heterosexual person does, including marrying who they want to marry. As Rose Posa Guina states, “Limiting marriage to heterosexual couples encourages homophobia, discrimination and exclusion” (qtd. in Karaim 1). Posa
Same-sex marriage and straight marriage do not have the same rights. Same-sex couples are denied equal access to civil marriage. If same-sex couples enter a civil union they are denied equal access to all the benefits, rights, and privileges provided federal law to married couples. Being denied to all these rights they should have may harm people who also experienced discrimination based on age, race, ethnicity, gender, and religion. The APA (American Psychological Association) believes it is unfair to discriminate and deny same-sex couples legal access to civil marriage and all of the benefits, rights and privileges. (Wikipedia)
In recent years, the debate over gay marriage has grown from an issue that occasionally arose in a few states to a nationwide controversy. People have opposing viewpoints on whether gays should be allowed to marry or not, and the sub topics that coincide with gay marriage. People wonder if it is okay for gays to marry, and if so, should it be legal everywhere? In the United States I 2009, some states like Iowa, Vermont, and Connecticut allow gays to marry, while states like California, Florida, and Arizona have constitutions that prohibit same-sex marriages.
