if you want to stick to the obesity argument you might want to think of arguments such as 'should the government be doing more to tackle the problem or is it up to the individual?' or 'How is it people can allow themselves to get that far into bad health(obesity)?' (might be more of a Psychology question though..) A good one for looking at arguments relating to the fast food industry is 'Super-Size me' that documentary, that might give you some more ideas about arguments, to look into some of the issues that Morgan Spurlock touches on, (size of food portions, advertising, health related problems of obesity, etc..)

Furthermore, the children will start to show aggressive behavior or start to behave like what they see on TV. (Bandura & Ross 1963) Another argument put forward by opponents could be that children have a choice on what to watch and how long they watch television. However this argument is unrealistic because most children do not have self discipline. They would rather watch something entertaining than a documentary about nature or history for example. They would rather watch the latest “Rambo” movie which is...
I. IntroductionBecause of the omnipotence of fast food chains in America, when we feel the urge for an easy meal, Americans, in general, immediately look to the fast food nation for a quick suppression to their hunger. Because we live in a time-is-money society the most efficient means of hunger satisfaction is the almighty drive-through. Corporations spend billions of dollars advertising to enhance sales of their products. With American catching on to the lack of healthy food options in the fast food nation, fast food chains began campaigning healthier food such as their salads and fruit cups. However salads may sound healthy but a Southwest Salad with Grilled Chicken from McDonalds has 320 calories and 90 grams of fat. Where's the "healthy" in that. Now that Obesity is the second leading cause of preventable death in the U.S. we need to re-evaluate the importance of healthy eating. By increasing awareness of the
Obesity has increased in numbers rapidly over the years. It is now considered a dangerous epidemic. Variety different arguments have been considered as to why obesity has increased. Many blame it on the consumers, but can it be the fault of someone else.
Throughout the United States of America obesity is an ongoing problem for people among different socioeconomic statuses. The government, pharmaceutical, agricultural and food production companies are the leading cause of obesity, resulting in many health issues among Americans. The government wants people to be unhealthy to increase their income from the healthcare industry and Americans are falsely educated on the topic of their health and diet.
Obesity in the United States has been increasingly cited as a major health issue in recent decades. In 2010, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported 35.7% of American adults as obese and 17% of American children. Obesity is obviously a big problem in America. One of the major causes of Obesity in America is the high consumption of junk food. In order to combat America 's obesity problem, junk food must be made less appealing to the public. Lack of exercise and genetics also result in the build of fat on an individual. The high consumption of junk food is one of the major causes of the high obesity rates America faces. The increased availability and relatively low costs of this junk food make it appealing to the masses. One may ask, is Obesity really a disease? If so, what can be done to solve the problem? I will explain the arguments for, against, and under certain circumstance(s) and conclude with my preferred position on rather Obesity is a disease.
Obesity is the cause of almost 300,000 thousand deaths annually in the United States. It is one of the most preventable and treatable diseases today. There is a variety of reason why obesity is increasing. Many Americans aren’t very physically active now days and with the thousands of television shows and movies out now most people would rather sit on their couch and watch TV then go out and do something physical. Also the surrounding environment plays a big role on why obesity is on the rise in America. Such as the lack of sidewalks, safe places for recreation, and the overly portioned cheap fast food restaurants on almost every corner.
Two-thirds of adults and nearly one-third of children struggle with overweight and obesity. For every five American deaths, one is associated with obesity. America causes obesity because Americans are always exposed to oversized food portions everywhere, healthy foods may be more costly than fast food restaurants, and the environment may not provide a healthy lifestyle in the area the person may live in.

America, the pride of its inhabitants, the glory from centuries of sacrifices from soldiers who exhibited patriotism, the center of reforms and movements - and the home of overweight, greedy scavengers. Yes, that’s right, America, the social glory of the obese. With so many social trends, such as fashion and social media, follow strokes and heart attacks from the overwhelmed body. It’s quite sad really, to view the body be attacked not from a virus or a fatal injury but due to itself. The body, no longer properly functioning correctly under its own weight, remains not as just the individual’s weight concern but a national embarrassment. The issue is getting larger, literally.
Childhood obesity is a hotly debated topic, with some parents’ rights have been called into question about child-rearing with 400-pound pre-teens. The situation is so serious that Michelle Obama has been the leader for many school lunch menus. Some parents have become so defensive and sensitive to the accusations they blame the fast-food restaurants for their child's obesity. Obesity is not the fault of fast food restaurants. Firstly restaurants or their employees don’t force you to eat their foods, secondly people can pick and choose if they want to eat healthy or unhealthy foods and whether or not to eat out or wait to get home and eat a home cooked meal, and lastly fast food employers and employees are just doing their jobs and it’s not their job to keep you healthy or skinny it's their job to feed you.
Obesity is a nationwide problem with the United States leading in the epidemic. Obesity being called a disease has many views as it it considered rude or bullying but could also possibly make people want to change to not be put under that label. For an obese individual, classifying obesity as a disease forces you to view yourself differently.(Wendy Scinta 6) Also food that is labeled as unhealthy is not a problem with the nation, it’s the people choices. Yes, food has easy access which could also be healthy if people took the time to prepare earlier with a healthier choice. The government isn’t forcing people to become unhealthy or obese it all comes down to choices. High levels of cortisol also cause high blood pressure, high cholesterol,
Childhood obesity has now reached an epidemic in several parts of the United States. As a result, children now have a higher risk to have numerous chronic and acute medical problems. Several of the long-lasting medical problems a child might face as a result of obesity could eventually result in death. In addition to chronic medical problems, childhood obesity has severe psychosocial effects on an individual such as low self-esteem and depression. Childhood obesity is a serious problem that is caused by a numerous amount of factors that can eventually lead to severe health complications.
Two thirds of American adults are obese or overweight. Obesity is a silent killer that is taking over the United States slowly but surely. People do not typically realize how serious obesity is and it gets joked about, humiliating those who are affected. Obesity is not a joke, it is a disease that is killing everyone’s family, friends and neighbors. Obesity alone is detrimental to the health of an individual, it causes many adverse effects to the body that are often difficult to repair or cure.
The issue that I chose to research about was obesity in children and why it is becoming more relevant and time continues. I chose a recent article from San Francisco Chronicle that explains a recent survey that was conducted and what their plan is to try to fix it. In this article, a national report was done comparing children and adult body mass indexes. “The 2016 National Survey of Children's Health found that 30 percent of Wisconsin children ages 10 to 17 are overweight or obese, while the state's adult rate of obesity is 31 percent” (2017). Because of these results, health officials are very concerned and are trying to fix the problem. Because of this concern, health prfessionals are trying to teach parents to start to fix the problem from home.by having parents provide a better diet and exercise routine for their children.
Obesity is one of the most sounded health problems in the USA. The CDC estimates that 12.7 million children ages 2-19 are obese; and about 76.8 million adults are as well. It is known that obesity is normally associated to predispositions to other conditions such as cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, stroke, and some cancers. Obesity is a problem found in both young, and older groups. But, how early does the negative aspects of obesity start taking a toll in our health?
Obesity has been a serious problem in the United States. A lot of people think just because someone is overweight they are considered obese. This is not true, people can be overweight due to extra muscle, bones, or water. Obesity is when a person has too much fat for their poor body to carry. Unfortunately, one in every 3 adults in the America is considered to be obese. We all know obesity occurs when you start to intake too many calories for your body. Dr. Keith Alblow stated that, “The American Medical Association (AMA) has decided to classify obesity as a disease. This decision is another example of inventing illnesses - a favorite pastime of the American Psychiatric Association
Millions of people across the world are familiar with the concept of obesity, possibly from a personal connection or knowing someone that has been affected by it. I chose this subject because I have family members that have been directly affected by obesity, and I wanted to learn more about it and widen my perspective. Particular to the U.S., the country has had a reputation of being one of the most obese countries in the world along with Mexico and New Zealand. Obesity has the ability to affect people’s dimensions of wellness including physical and mental. Factors that can lead to obesity take on various form; some are physical such as the food itself or common social mediums such as advertisements or the media. Given, America is a melting pot of race and culture, who is to blame for the accusation? Is it a certain group or type of people? Who is the authority of what country is considered obese? And for those that claim America is obese, are they wrong or right?
