We can both agree you did not have to think a lot to put that in to your imagination. When an individual is preparing a presentation it is important to understand the capacity of information a human can process in order to structure proper presentation. Giving a presentation seeking to impress the audience with all the knowledge you know will only lose their interest to listen. It is important to keep the cognitive load low in order to deliver a message the audience can process and retain. Last year, I think I might have been too descriptive with the information I provided the athletes on the sheet I gave them for the summer. My thoughts on that reason was, if they read and understand the purpose of the workouts they will appreciate the skill sets more and apply it to their exercises. The results of that workout program was a failure. Many of them mention they did not have the proper equipment to apply the workout, but I know it was the overwhelm descriptions I wrote on the program that might have gave them that …show more content…
Learning these theories shows me the needs in area I did not once think were needed: communication skills. In many situations I faced in my current profession, I struggle trying to deliver messages to other coaches in the same career. I realize now, I was spending more time trying to impress other coaches with what know, then delivering the point I was trying to make. I have already start practicing these four theories within my current profession. The film session with my position group, have been limited due to my understanding of information processing. The overall knowledge of these theories will improve my communication skills as I work towards creating Moodle course in my other courses and structuring instruction lessons and workouts for my athletes in the future. Xcom285 has taught me many valuable assets that I can use in my future, but I believe that the most valuable thing that I have learned is that communications is not just talking. Communications is about listening and writing as well. It is important in business communications to understand that to effectively communicate one need’s to tune into everything that is going on around him or her. Communication is defined as ‘a transactional process involving participants who occupy different but overlapping environments and create relationships through the exchange of messages, many of which are affected by external, psychological and physiological noise’ (Adler, R and Proctor, R. 2010). Communication doesn’t just mean verbal communication, as non-verbal communication is just as, if not, more important as verbal communication. When it comes to talking about theories of communication, it is easy to overlook the impact they have on our day-to-day lives. Often times when people think of theories they think of long boring explanations that have little meaning or pertinence to their lives. This, however, is not always the case. It may surprise some to find out that the interactions they have whether at work, with their loved ones, or even with a stranger all relate back to theories that explain why they do the things they do. This not only includes the face-to-face interaction we have in real life, but also through the relationships we see portrayed in television shows and movies. An example of this is how the uncertainty reduction theory plays into the relationship development between Belle and the Beast in the newest movie version of Beauty and the Beast.
