Arguments against abortion:
From pro-life point of view, our life begins at conception. Abortion is similar to murder as by abortion we are taking human life. Abortion does not fit with the idea of the purity of human life. There are no civilized societies that permits people intentionally harm the life of another human. An abortion can be injurious for women’s health and can create serious medical complications later in life. In the case of rape and incest, if proper medical treatment can be ensured within time for women safety then woman will not get pregnant. By abortion, we kill the unborn child who is free from all bad works. Instead, we should punish the criminal. Abortion should not be interpreted as a form of contraception. Women can use contraception to minimize the risk of unwanted pregnancy who want to control their body. Most of the women who do abortions are often young women. They possess an insufficient life experience to understand what they are actually doing. Many of them have lifelong regrets afterward for killing their own child. Abortion also causes intense psychological pain and stress for the women. (Lowen, 2017)
Arguments for abortion
In most of the cases, women do abortions in their first trimester. On that time a fetus is attached by the placenta and umbilical cord to the mother. The condition of baby’s health is dependent on her mother’s health. A fetus cannot be regarded as a separate entity as it cannot exist outside her womb. From pro-choice
Thomson brings up the standard anti-abortion argument. Every person has a right to life. A fetus is a person. Which means a fetus has a right to life. Therefore abortion is wrong. Thomson does not understand the jump from a fetus having a right to life to abortion being wrong. She believes that the fetus being a person or not is irrelevant to the argument. And abortion is based more on the rights of the woman, fetus, and who has more of the right of ownership of the woman’s body (Thomson 47-48).
Abortion is one the most controversial topics in the United States. The issue at hand is should abortion be legal or not. It is highly debated with in both media and politics. According to History Channel, “Supreme Court legalizes abortion”, in 1973 the U.S. Supreme Court Case Roe V. Wade ruled that women have the constitutional right to privacy, thus legalizing abortion. This law gave women the right to terminate a pregnancy during the first two trimesters. This sparked huge controversy between pro-life and pro-choice believers. Both pro-life and pro-choice have numerous arguments to justify their opinions. In a report done by WebMD, “Abortion-Reasons Women Choose Abortion,” nine out of ten abortions are performed within the first twelve weeks. Abortion should be legal because it is a women’s constitutional right, mental and physical health, and other.
My second argument against abortion is due to the physical health issues having an abortion can cause for women. There are minor complications such as: minor infections, bleeding, fevers, abdominal pain, gastro disturbances, and vomiting that can occur as a result of having an abortion. Approximately 10% of women undergoing induced abortion suffer from immediate complications, of which one-fifth (2%) were considered major. Major complications that occur include: major infections, excessive bleeding, embolism, perforation of the uterus, anesthesia complications, convulsions, hemorrhage, cervical injury and endotoxic shock. Aside from the potential dangers of the abortion methods in general, abortion increases a woman’s chances of having miscarriages in later pregnancies; this is especially true for younger girls who have had an abortion. Also, repeated abortions increase the level of danger (Thiroux and Krasemann). I personally know several women who have had an abortion at some point. I conducted a very short interview with three individuals asking them the following questions:
The purpose of this essay is to set out an argument that abortion is wrong. Some claim that only in “rare” instances, such as rape or within a few days of contraception, abortion is acceptable. I will agree that there are certain circumstances that abortion is more “acceptable” than other times, albeit however few and far between these instances arise. Instances that make abortion more “okay” are rape, and once it is discovered that the mother's life is in danger if she were to carry the baby the full term of the pregnancy. The basis for my argument comes from reading two opposing essays on abortion , in regards to whether it is “right” or wrong, “A defense of Abortion” by Judith
Just about all abortions take place early in the pregnancy like the first trimester, when a fetus does not exist without the support of the mother. Because it’s attached by the placenta and umbilical cord and cannot be regarded as a separate entity as it cannot survive outside her
When it comes to living ~~, many people think that “good” includes things that bring enjoyment and “bad” means things that are burdening. We should seek out the good in life and avoid or remove the bad. In cases of abortion, though, where a life is unwanted and burdensome, is it justified to get rid of it? Pro-life arguments that oppose abortion say that ~~. Pro-choice arguments which support abortion argue that a child’s life begins at birth, a woman has the right over her body, and promotes autonomy. After all, a life is ~~ than ~. For my claim, I will not refer to any religious arguments concerning abortion, as doing so would just introduce a wide range of other arguments to debate. Furthermore, I believe it is possible to sufficiently prove abortion is wrong without regarding religion. I will cover the most common arguments for pro-choice and try to refute these arguments along with a moral theory of my own. My primary claim will be that abortion ~~ primary gain is wrong because it is the same as murder.
Societies frequently regard the term “good” as whatever is pleasurable or moral and “bad” as whatever causes unpleasant outcomes. Therefore it makes sense that we should seek out the good in life and avoid the bad. In cases of abortion, though, where a potential life is considered “bad”, is it justified to remove it? Life is viewed as the highest intrinsic good, thus any act of deliberately taking it away becomes a serious moral issue. Pro-life arguments, or arguments opposing abortion, claim that each human has a right to life, a person is a human at the moment of conception, and each human possesses the obligation to protect human lives. Pro-choice arguments, or arguments supporting abortion, argue that a child’s life begins at birth, a woman has the leading right over her body, and abortion promotes autonomy. I will attempt to refute the leading pro-choice arguments while holding my claim that abortion to end a life is always immoral because it is an act of murder.
In 1973 the Supreme Court made it legal to get abortions done by a well-trained professional in any state. Before this time many states had laws that made abortions legal if and only if it was to save the women’s life. As a result of this ruling in 1973 Pro-life supports began taking up arms against abortion. Within a short time most states had statewide organizations protesting against abortion.
Many people claim that the mother should have a right to choose what happens to her own body, but this does not take into account that she is also choosing what happens to another person's body, even if it is not yet fully formed. On the other hand, the fetus is within her body and she produced it, she should have the right to terminate it as she does to remove any other part of her body.
On July 18th, 2013, House Bill 2 (HB2) was signed into law by Texas Governor, Rick Perry. HB2 included a series of restrictions on abortions, two of which were challenged in a case for women’s rights, called Whole Woman’s Health (WWH) vs. Cole (2016) (Statesmen Timeline 2016). The first restriction that was challenged in this case required all doctors who were in the practice of preforming abortions to have admitting rights to a hospital, within thirty miles of the location of the procedure (Green and Ford 2015). The second restriction that was challenged was the mandate that abortion clinics must meet the same building, safety, and staffing requirements as a hospital surgical center (Green and Ford 2015). The defense behind the implementation
Abortion is a serious topic that people have been debating about for years. Everywhere you turn the topic of abortion presents itself, on TV, in the newspapers, in books and magazines. It already has, and will continue to cause, controversy for years to come. As long as abortion remains legal, pro-life advocates will continue to protest what they believe to be these horrible acts of murder.
As the percentages of child abuse, poverty among kids, kids dropping out of school, and violence in the communities keep increasing, every citizen must reconsider whether the regulations imposed on abortion are beneficial or ruinous to our society. Abortion regulations are a burden for women in our society, instead of allowing them to voice their opinion it forces them to do something they do not feel capable of doing or even worst something they cannot afford. Also, these tailored made regulations endanger a woman's health by bringing psychological effects, stress and many other health disorders. Our society needs more people that believe in firm actions not on something that changes every moment like these abortion regulations that change
Each year, 46 million women worldwide experience an abortion, a fact that would make anyone sick to their stomach. In actuality the current statistic proves that there are 1.3 million abortions performed each year in the United States alone; that is almost 1000 times our schools population aborted in ONE year. The controversy surrounding the ethicality of abortions has been an emotionally debated topic during the past several decades. It is an argument where the human interactions of morals, emotions and law come together into one. Pro-life is morally sound, and depicts abortion as wrong and as murder, where in fact, it is. Abortion not only withholds a scientific basis for why it is wrong, but abortion is immoral in all
The right to life is the most basic and important right that we have. In the past two hundred years, over one million Americans have died for their country. Monuments have been built and speeches have been delivered, honoring these American heroes. America is now engaged in a war where there are no heroes, no monuments or tributes - only victims. Our society has declared war on its most helpless members - our unborn children. Since that war was declared on January 22, 1973, there have been over 35 million deaths.
Does a women’s right to choose to have an abortion outweigh a baby’s right to be born? The controversy at hand is whether the rights of a women outweigh the rights of a baby, and whether a mother should be given the rights to pursue a procedure like an abortion. To clarify an abortion is a medical procedure that ends a pregnancy in which a doctor uses a vacuum and suction to suck out a fetus from the uterus. The issue is whether the fetus who has the potential to be a rational, productive human being has the unequivocal rights of any other human being and whether he or she should be protected from, in every sense of the word, murder. The argument made by abortionfacts.com a nonprofit Christian pro-life education organization, is that
