Gun Control is a very controversial topic of today, many people believe that you stricter laws should be put in place to completely abolish the second amendment. Whereas the other side of the table thinks that if you want to exercise your rights you should be completely free to do so. I fall in towards the middle more towards the anti gun control. Guns should be able to be freely obtained within reason, convicted felons should have no right to own weapon. Though today there are loopholes helping criminals have the ability to get them. The “gun show loophole” is the first, it is a theory that is controversial because of its thought that it affects crime rates, usually this notion is brought up by gun control advocates. Gun shows are thought to be the reason that criminals can purchase a weapon without having to have a background check. Another loophole is called the “straw purchaser” this is also a thought that helps criminals or people who should not own a weapon purchase a weapon. This paper will help to determine what these loopholes are and how it could be …show more content…
Though some very influential people don’t agree with the laws that are already in place. It makes this another very controversial topic. It is a proven fact that it is more common for a person to successfully get a weapon using this straw method than at a gun show. About half of the supreme court justices feel that the laws are not applicable in all cases, whereas the other half thinks that they should enforce the rules because it's a law that should apply to everyone and there should be no exceptions. Some states have taken and made their own laws to try to clarify this controversy. In Pennsylvania they went as far as to add classes called “Straw Purchase Prevention Education Program” and they funded a group called “Don’t Lie for the Other Guy”. This group puts on these prevention
Mental health is a big factor that I believe should be closer examined before allowing someone to purchase such a weapon. Some may argue and say that “‘The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun’”(Smith,3), and that's why we need to make sure that the guns are sold to good guys. Anyone who is interested in purchasing a gun should have to prove that they only have good intentions with a firearm, because “... you are equipping yourself with a tool to defend yourself in a potentially lethal situation, but you could also be introducing an element of lethality into a situation that might otherwise not be”(Willis,1) All those in their right mind should be able to have a gun and use it responsibly. Another example of gun law effectiveness is from Australia, because there were 13 mass shootings from 1979-1996, after the 13th shooting occurred the country passed strict laws banning many
Countless opinions have been broadcasted on national news media regarding what society ought to do about gun control. This controversial topic sparks many heated debates with people of either position reluctant to compromise. Gun supporters claim that the proposed gun laws infringe on their constitutional right to bear arms. Conversely, others believe that restricted gun access would cause gun violence to decrease. Regardless of what side one stands on, with the increase in gun violence, it is safe to say that something must be done.
According to the Coalition for Gun Control, last year a total of 291 people were killed by handguns in Australia, Sweden, Great Britain, Japan, and Switzerland. In the United States more than 24,000 people will be killed by the end of this year. So what is the big difference between the U.S. and these other countries? In these other countries it nearly impossible to buy any kind of gun. In these countries there are no gun shows. In these countries you can’t buy a gun at a pawnshop or your local Wal-Mart. These countries have strict gun laws and are all about gun control. In this paper I will discus the correct interpretation of the Second Amendment, why guns are such a problem in the U.S., and why guns are more likely to kill a friend
For a nation as advanced as the United States the death of thousands of people each year is an issue affecting and concerning every American. With this problem occurring almost every year, the question of whether or not gun licenses can guarantee the safety of citizens throughout the country has been raised. With the number of deaths created by firearms each year, the need for enforcing stricter gun-control laws has grown increasingly. In addition, with the amount of fear throughout the country, and concern for protection, many people are beginning to buy firearms through simple and easy ways. Throughout America there are numerous ways for citizens to find and purchase weapons, whether it is in a gun store or online, the possibilities are endless.
Over two hundred years have passed since the founding fathers of the United States of America, had created the constitution, the very document that is viewed, by many, as the milestone for what has later become the most powerful country in the world, as well as, the beacon for democracy. Having derived its values from the simple, yet intrinsic principles of liberty, the constitution has played the role of a safeguard to always ensure the freedoms of the people of America will remain intact.
How can your argument for no gun laws be "protection" when its the very thing killing us? There is also an ongoing point to go against gun laws for what I believe is myth that is, "Guns don’t kill people, people kill people." If that were true how does that explain accidental death and injury with all age groups, but especially children. For the kids who are too young to know what they are doing or just figure there is no bullets in the gun when they point and shoot someone, how can we still hide behind the lie that people are the reason guns are bad. Now that brings us to what people also say to go against gun laws, "Gun control doesn’t work because criminals don’t follow laws." If we were to base every law on that reasoning, then we would
People who are opposed to gun control laws believe they have a right to own a gun for hunting or to defend themselves from intruders who want to enter their home (“The Fight Over Guns in America” 15). They state that guns are mostly used to prevent crimes rather than to commit them (Fernandez 21). Every year firearms are used two million times by civilians to avoid
After the continuing domestic and international acts of gun violence, either as hate crimes, revenge, or terrorist acts, the ongoing battle of gun control in our country continues to be heated and emotional. Because of fear or to use for election campaigns, citizens and politicians are aggressively voicing their opinions either for or against this debate with both rational and irrational claims.
It was a beautiful Sunday morning of March 6, 1915 in Brunswick Georgia, where kids were outside playing and residents were strolling along the busy streets of local businesses, but the inevitable happened when a 59 year old named Monroe Phillips went into a building with an automatic shotgun and opened fire killing six people and wounding 32. 84 years later and Seniors Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold of Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado opened fire at about 11:OO a.m on April 20, 1999 on a planned attack and killed 12 students and wounded more than 20 others. Soon after the pair committed suicide in the school’s library at 12:00 p.m. A decade didn't even pass by when Adam Lanza killed his mother in her own home on December 14, 2012,
What death-causing objects should we eliminate from our society? According to Webster’s Dictionary, Gun Control is the ability to manage a firearm. Firearms can be effectively disguised, so they are the weapons for individuals who decide to utilize them for self-protection. Tragically, they’re likewise the weapons for lawbreakers. Firearms are simple for culprits to take, firearms can be accessible on the underground market; this settles attraction for murders. Most of law violations are submitted with the utilization of a firearm; this is a genuine issue in America today. Most would say that something must be carried out; nobody appears to have the answer as of right now. Some weapon control supporters accept that totally banning handguns
The correlation with handgun ownership and the amount of suicides every year is a highly debated subject. A majority of suicides in America were decided on impulse (less than five minutes of thought) rather than non-impulsive. With this in mind, the quickest way for a person to commit suicide is with a gun. Gun control advocates believe that having guns present in a household increases the risk of suicide. “There are at least a dozen U.S. case-control studies in the peer-reviewed literature, all of which have found that a gun in the home is associated with an increased risk of suicide. The increase in risk is large, typically 2 to 10 times that in homes without guns, depending on the sample population (e.g., adolescents vs. older adults) and
So gun control is a very sensitive subject at this part of time, but it really does need to be talked about. Many people have their opinions on the topic and these opinions start lots of drama, if you want to call it that.Through this essay tho we will be talking about if gun control is really need or is it something else.
“Guns, whether Remingtons or Glocks./ Come on man it ain't like I'm a slingin' 'em on the block./ I'm gonna tell you once and listen son./ As long as I'm alive and breathing,/ You won't take my guns./” (“Guns” by Justin Moore). This song shows how people express their rights to bear arms. It also creates a clear picture of how important Guns are to the American people. Some people believe it is unconstitutional for us to have them and is pointless. Some want some restrictions because of the shootings. As many of us know it our constitutional right and is used for a self defense mechanism against criminals when the police cannot respond fast enough.
Gun control is a controversial topic that arises frequently in the United States. This old issue resurfaces whenever a gun related crime such as a school shooting, terrorist attack, or police shooting happens. The goal with gun control, which is more commonly pressed by Democrats, is to make the purchasing of a firearm more difficult to attain. This common problem of gun control is something that is constantly on citizen’s minds and has been for years. It’s current legal status is somewhat tricky to understand as it is different state-wide. While there are some rules and regulations to follow in order to get a gun, some are not seen as solid ways to control anticipated buyers. Therefore, there is a high demand to make the regulations of purchasing
“The gun ownership rates in those more rural parts of the country are about 111 percent higher than the gun ownership rates in the urban areas that have the highest murder rates.” How can something intend to create order in society actually create chaos? Society is the aggregate of people living together in a more or less ordered community. Laws are provided for our own good to use as guidelines when making critical decisions and to prove justice accordingly. Unlike most legislature, these laws are made stringently to prevent or protect any signs of precariousness not protected by law enforcement. Gun laws are very important to the extent that they save, and prevent the cadaverous body. However, the overproduction of laws too soon can cause
