Guns. Some people automatically think of violence and death when they hear this word. While others think about self-protection, an inalienable right, and fun. These two groups are the main voices in the gun control conversation that debates how much the government should/can control gun flow in the United States. There are many other groups that are in the conversation that are not 100% anti-gun, or all the way guns-for-everyone supporter. American’s started their loving relationship with guns’ way back in the 1700’s when they rebelled against the British control and created The United States of America. While they were writing the constitution and other documents, the founding fathers including several amendments. One of which is the Second Amendment which states: “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” So the rights of citizens owning weapons for hunting, recreation, and other reasons are protected by the amendment. However, guns have evolved a great deal since then, and are being abused a whole lot more. Deaths caused by gun violence have risen shockingly, and mass shootings are happening too frequently. Some anti-gun groups want stricter rules on owning a firearm, while others want them completely banned from everyone. Their arguments are mostly based off of all the violence and death that has come from guns in the hands of irresponsible citizens and criminals.
Gun control laws should regulate production, distribution, ownership and use of firearms by civilians. Gun control laws are not intended to dispossess law abiding citizens of licensed firearms but to intervene on reckless use of firearms that cause harm to the public. Gun control should also make it difficult for criminals to access firearms. Armed civilians have in many instances deterred acts of crime from being instigated by scaring away criminals. Nonetheless, gun laws can only be described as immensely lax. This essay seeks to argue for the enactment of strict gun control laws by highlighting the dangers posed by guns in the hands of members of the public.
For many years there have been arguments over gun control, and if there needs to be more regulations or even ban them. I do not think that banning firearms or adding more regulations would help; if anything it would make things worse.
Gun control is a very divisive subject in our country today. It is so divisive because some people really think they should be able to own their personal guns. However some people disagree with this. Over the last couple of years gun violence has been increasing dramatically. The United States leads the world for most mass shootings from 1966 to 2012 with 90 shootings.
Gun control is an ever-growing debate among American citizens. The debate is considering the positive and negative aspects of guns and what limits should be placed on them. Some people believe that guns should be completely restricted, while others believe that there should be no limitations on these weapons. However, many people are caught in the middle of this debate, believing that gun control should be allowed in moderation. Gun Control should be regulated to have a more strict process to obtain guns and to keep these weapons from those who are mentally ill.
An un-armed population will have a difficult time protecting itself from criminals that clearly do not care about laws and would most likely be more successful in committing a crime if their intended victims are incapable of defending themselves. While there are numerous reasons, including social, economic and mental health, as to why criminals commit crimes, having access to guns is not one of them. The 2nd Amendment of the Constitution states, "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed” (U.S. Const. amend. II). Protecting the 2nd Amendment of the Constitution is vital because limiting or outright denying law-abiding citizens the ability to possess firearms, which are nothing more than a tool, will cause more problems, such as higher crime rates, than it would solve.
The average response time of a 911 call is 10 minutes. The response time of a .357 magnum is 1400 feet per second. The second amendment of the United States Constitution states, “the right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed upon.” That right is now more than ever in jeopardy and we must continue to fight for it. Gun Control does not solve our nations problem of violence.
One of the hot topics in society is the argument of gun control. Gun control is defined as the regulation of the purchase and ownership of firearms in an effort to reduce criminal or unsafe use. ("Gun Control" 1p. 1)These regulations include registration of firearms, banning the possession of firearms by minors, felons, the mentally ill, and people convicted of domestic violence; criminal background checks or specified waiting periods for gun purchases; limit weapon purchases at one certain time, or impose outright bans on the sale or possession of certain types of guns. ("Gun Control" 1p. 1) Even with these numerous restrictions on guns there are still roughly thirty thousand people killed with guns every year. Guns are responsible for 3.3
Nowadays streets are scary to walk alone at night. Crime rates have increased currently and people are nervous to leave their own homes at night. Sadly, unlike cartoons, there is no hero that is going to swoop in and save the day. Imagine you were sitting in your parked car next to dark streets, lit up only by a dim lamp-pole. You see a man walking slowly with his head down and he starts walking towards your car. He taps on the window. In this moment, wouldn’t you want to be able to protect yourself? You don’t know what this man is capable of or what his intent is. When you roll down your window to ask what he wants, he pulls out a gun. If you were weaponless, there would be a high possibility that you would not survive. Imagine this instead. As he pulls out his gun
Gun control has become a controversial topic in the United States. It has formed the foundation of many debates, which have resulted into general arguments that either support or refute the gun control regulations. The gun control laws were first enacted by the Congress in 1930’s. The federal and state laws stipulate the groups of people who are prohibited from owning firearms. These groups include fugitives, illegal aliens, individuals who have been pronounced to have unsound mind by a court, felons, individuals who have been restricted from serving in the army, people who are no longer US citizens, persons with restraining orders for domestic violence, and people who are addicted to substance use. The gun control laws have set 21 years as the minimum age for people to buy a gun from a federally licensed gun dealer only and 18 years as the minimum legal age for owning a gun and transfers from any unlicensed firearm dealer. The main objective of these federal laws is to prevent individuals from owning guns illegally, limit handling concealed guns outside the homestead, stipulate terms and conditions that prevent people from owning guns, and control the design of guns so as to improve public safety. Improving public safety is the most fundamental role of the gun control laws. Innocent lives being lost as a result of increased gun violence should be put to an end through gun control.
Guns have played a major role in shaping and constructing the United States of America to the way it is today. In the early times of United States history, the founding fathers set in stone that every man has the right to bear arms. In recent years there have been numerous politicians that have been fighting to take that right away from us. The Second Amendment to the Unites States Constitution states, “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” The history of the gun has played major roles in conquering land and defending the land that one would call home. In the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, the Colonists relied heavily on firearms to take and protect the land from Native Americans and Europeans. During the time of the Revolutionary War, every male citizen was required to own a firearm to help fight off British forces .
Crime and victim of crimes are and everyday news headline in the United States. What is never far from these headlines is the high levels of these crimes were committed with a gun. The next ensuing headlines are the topic of gun control. Many will argue that there are too many guns in America. Advocates of gun control subscribe to their argument that guns are easily assessable that there is a correlation between the number of gun crimes and the availability of guns. Gun right advocates will point out that the high numbers of gun related crimes are due to the size of the population. A continued argument is the majority of crimes committed with a gun were obtained illegally. Gun control will not stop crimes committed with guns, it prevent
Imagine a world where you wake up with an armed robber in your house with a gun already nearby. Would you have a good feeling knowing you can protect yourself right? Now imagine a world where you wake up with an armed robber in your house and you have no weapon to use for self-defense. What would you feel then?
Gun control is a debate topic that comes up every election and when a major event happens that involving guns. Pro-gun lobbyists say “Guns don’t kill people, people kill people” [ (Hagan, 2007) ] the anti-gun advocates want to take away the right to bear arms. This topic has no right or wrong answer it is a preference of the individual. This is why gun control is such a fiercely debated topic.
Gun control, or the lack thereof, causes a really big discussion. On one side you have the people that say “no guns!” and people that hunt for game and whatnot. There is, and in my opinion, always going to be a big disagreement on gun control. It is that way because there are lots of people that have different opinions.
There has been legislative modifications towards guns to ensure the safety of every human being in the United States. According to the U.S. Department of Justice, the Gun Control Act of 1968 states, “...use of firearms appropriate to the purpose of hunting, trapshooting, target shooting, personal protection, or any other lawful activity, and that this title is not intended to discourage or eliminate the private ownership or use of firearms by law abiding citizens for lawful purposes…” (U.S Department of Justice). This means that under government certification, people have the right to use guns for lawful activities. An individual can use a gun for sport or for protection from another willing to commit a crime. This represents how guns have a purpose for people to recognize and how it should not be misrepresented through a bad
