The only way to stop this trafficking in and profiting from the use of women's bodies is for prostitution to be legalized. Legalization will open it up to regulation; and regulation means safety. JEANNETTE ANGELL, Callgirl
Because we agree with the statement by Jeannette Angell, Callgirl, my partner and I affirm the resolution that prostitution should be legal.
We offer the following two reasons to support our side, countries that legalize prostitution have better health overall and have lower crimes rates such as violence, rape, and human trafficking.
Our first reason is the overall health benefit. The estimated number of people in the US with any form of STD is around 110 million, a third of the entire country. The numbers for Europe
Some say prostitution is the world 's oldest profession. Yet, only a small percentage of the world’s government allows it. The legalization of prostitution is a very controversial topic due to many people’s moral beliefs. Prostitutes all over the world are treated as outcasts. A reason for people to be against prostitution could be due to their religious beliefs, moral standpoints, or lack of knowledge over the subject. Many religions state that sex outside of marriage is a sin and those who do it should be looked down upon. Due to these beliefs people tend to be against the legalization of prostitution. Though there are many facts that show that prostitution should be legalized. Prostitution should be legalized in the United States because then it can be regulated, would help the economy, and would lower the prison population and crimes against prostitutes.
Prostitution has been a part of our world's culture since the beginning of time, and is the world's oldest profession. Prostitution is defined by the Webster dictionary as “the act or practice of engaging in promiscuous sexual relations especially for money.” If prostitution were legalized, there would a reduction in sex crimes, American citizens would have the freedom to choose any profession within the sex industry and it would provide economic benefits for the local and federal governments, as well as the population.
To assume that it can be removed from society is harmful and a waste of our resources. Offering a safe environment for prostitution makes the most sense by allowing the “profession” to continue legally minimizing the dangers that are currently attached. Knowing that legalization offers prostitutes equal access to health care, protection by law enforcement, and decreased risks of human sex trafficking make the argument of legalization clear. As humans we should all want to help make life better for each other regardless of our choice of profession. We can do this by making prostitution legal in
Throughout history, prostitution has been an issue of intense debates in the US and the larger global society. Many countries legally prohibit prostitution and associated activates. Except Nevada, the United States also illegalizes prostitution. However, the benefit of legalizing prostitution in the US would not only be for the workers but also for the economy as well. It is high time that prostitution be legalized for various reasons.
The most common argument against the legalization of prostitution is that it establishes sexual immorality. The prostitute,
Prostitution would be much safer in the United States if it were legalized. A study was done in the 1980’s that found that around 124 sex workers were murdered every year in the United States (“Atlantic City Prostitutes Taking Precautions as Death Toll Rises”). If the states would legalize prostitution within brothels only, measures could be taken to keep the prostitutes
I due believe the government of the United States should help to take action to help prostitution in foreign countries where prostitution is legal. This could start a new problem between nations where prostitution is legal. I can say it is absurd to see foreign countries supporting this type of actions of legalizing prostitution in a bad way. I can say I would like to see prostitution to be legalized here in the United States, just because I can say in this country the government can have a control and they could stop sex trafficking by stopping organization from abusing of power and forcing people. Going back to the question refer about our country needs to intervene and help those country by eradicating sex trafficking; I could say that the
The sex industry is highly divided between those who call themselves “sex workers”, and former prostitutes who call themselves “survivors” (Glazer 340). Women should have the right to choose what they do for a living, including prostitution. The criminalization of prostitution does more harm than good when often women are left unprotected, both socially and legally, and therefore, the United States should make efforts to decriminalize and regulate prostitution instead.
Releasing laws on prostitution … specifically, legalizing this area of the sex industry, will create a profound impact on society. While halotry (as it was once commonly called) has its detractors and negative connotations, the benefits outway the problems society consistently point out. Society at large questions the merits of legalizing prostitution, when in fact there are several advantages legalization could create. At a minimum, legalizing harlotry will make the job significantly safer and keep sex workers and clientele healthier. By placing a public and government spot-light on prostitution, the public can expect to see less violence, for fear of prosecution and fines. If the government and or an organization stays on top of the work prostitutes do, there’s a likely chance sexually transmitted diseases will decrease; human trafficking and illegal children in relation to prostitution will also diminish. On an even higher note, this “new” occupation will assist in dropping unemployment and benefit the economy, tax payers, and government. While there are certainly strong points as to why legalizing prostitution is wrong and unorthodox, there’s powerful evidence that supports the concept of legalization. For instance, if one looks at the history of prostitution, they’ll learn how long prostitutes have been around and how they were all but welcomed and accepted in older societies! Existing laws on harlotry, pertaining to the majority of the U.S, must be converted; not only
Since time began, women have been selling sex through prostitution, men have been buying it, and society has been debating the legitimacy of the oldest profession in the world. The prevalence of AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases have cast a new light on the old moral and victimless crime arguments against and for legalization of prostitution throughout the United States. There are convincing arguments on both sides of this issue, points on both sides that cannot be ignored. However, when all is said and done, it is those who argue for the legalization of prostitution who are most convincing.
Legalizing prostitution would allow the copulating partners to have basic work rights that everyone else in the workforce obtain. Legalizing prostitution would allow the sex workers to have basic human rights that everyone else obtain (Top 10 Pros and Cons). Currently, sex workers are under no regulation, since it is an illegal profession. With the illegal status of prostitution, sex workers are vulnerable to crime, corruption, and abuse. If prostitution were made legal, regulations could be placed in the profession that could make prostitution a safe and healthy profession. Legalizing prostitution would allow those in the profession to properly address the issues in the field, and be backed by organizations promoting their rights. Such organizations already exist, such as Hooking is Real Employment, or HIRE for short, and Prostitution Laws Are Nonsense, or PLAN for short. Prostitutes are seen as lesser than status of those who are in other professions, such as bank teller, author or truck driver, because prostitutes are selling their bodies. Let me ask you this, what is the difference between someone who sells their voice, as in on radio or live shows, someone who sells their hands, as in a court reporter or maid, or someone who sells their body, as in professional dancing or prostitution. All the professions listed are selling their body, but only one of these have been slammed with a status of illegality
"Prostitution is illegal and considered a form of human trafficking prohibited by federal code and the 13th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution." (Sex Crimes) Human traffickers, otherwise known as pimps, import people for the purpose of prostitution labor. They make money off the desperate need of others to earn money by selling sexual acts from one person to another. Amnesty International is trying to decriminalize prostitution. The are trying to pretty up the acts by using the terms sex worker and consensual acts. I strongly disagree with this organization's position!
Prostitution is an issue which has caused controversy culturally and historically and has many individuals reexamining the issue.
Having bodily autonomy is every human being’s personal right. The US Federal Government should allow consenting to do whatever they want with their bodies, it’s free choice. Legalizing prostitution will lead to the amount of bodily autonomy one has, which will lead to people accepting their own bodies.
I agree if the government can have a better way of controlling prostitution so we can avoid human trafficking.
