Women’s Suffrage (noun); the right of women to vote; female suffrage. For as long as most can remember, women have never been viewed as equal to men. Women have fought for many rights including the right to vote, run for office, and for everyday things such as equal pay, the right to job listings, getting an education, and even having a credit card in their own name. One situation I can recall is after having to go with the boys athletics one day. The male coaches and the boys themselves seemed to baby me and the group of girls I was with. Little things, such as making us do less work than the boys or telling us how much to lift because they felt we couldn’t achieve their standards. Our female coaches were much tougher on us than the male coaches were on the boys. How our coaches expected us to try and do more than we were capable of. They treated us like we were capable of anything while the boys had treated us as if we weren’t. …show more content…
They should encourage us to reach our limits just as if we were them. Just because we don’t have the same stature and build as a male, doesn’t mean we should be treated any different. People don’t seem realize that even though we are all built different we are still all the same when it comes equality. We should learn to accept each other rather than bringing each other
For many years, women have been fighting for equal rights as men. The fight started years back, and continues to happen today. Many of the rights woman have now would not have been possible if it was not for the many women who stood up for what they believed in, and did not give up on the movement to make things right. Although, the fight for equal rights is still active, the freedom women have now compared to back in the 19th century is very different.
Women have had a rough way to go for many years when it comes to equality. They face many negative things in today’s society and that is the way it has been for many years. History shows that women have been fighting for equality for decades, because many people believe they just can’t do the things that men can. There’s a website that has been helping women fight for that equality since 1966. That website is www.now.org. Before then women never really had any help. They had to rely on each other to show everyone what they could really do. Women have fought to try and end discrimination when it comes to jobs and economic justice. So the status of women throughout history has changed,
Women have always believed that they do not have the same rights as men because they do not get paid enough. Specifically, Madeleine M. Kunin claims that women have more rights than before. Although women do not get paid the same as men, their situation has improved because they have fought for their rights and they are able to do the same jobs as men. Although women have more rights than before they are still paid less than men. This has always been an issue that has not changed.
Women are powerful, smart and ambitious. We are strong and reliable and we deserved equal rights from the beginning. Men were always given the first job, first opportunities and the finest treatment. Women were immediately dismissed and given no substantial opportunities to advance and demonstrate their education and skills.
These passages are about women’s suffrage. The first is against women’s suffrage, the second strongly for, and the last is neutrally for feminism. All three are very different and show the contrasting opinions of the time.
Although women have gained many more rights, they still are not equal to men. Women had to fight to get a fraction of the rights men were granted. In 2017, women still do not have control over their own lives and bodies.
Now, women are equal to men since they are now working, able to vote, own their own land and most importantly, own themselves. They are now citizens and some are even running in politics. Hillary Clinton, who is secretary of state, is A good example of this since she is such an inspiration across the United States and also helped with establishing women’s rights. She shows that anybody can be anything they
Suffrage: the right to vote in political elections. The men in America have always had the right to vote. They have always had the right to do whatever they wanted. Women, on the other hand, have not. They haven’t always been allowed to vote. 1920 marked a significant landmark in American history. Women in all parts of the country voted in a political election for the first time. This may not sound like that big of a deal, but to the women of the 19th and 20th centuries.
The modern political climate is more suited for women to run for the presidency. At the time of the American Revolution, the inequality of the past remained the same. “The only 6% of the public was allowed to vote (Adam Season 7)”. Abigail Adams wrote to her husband John Adams March 31st 1776.
Phases of feminist debate surrounding issues of suffrage and parliamentary participation caused great political change. ‘In the nineteenth century women had no place in national politics … it was assumed that women did not need to vote because their husbands would take responsibility in political matters’ . Prior to 1918, women were not allowed to vote in parliamentary elections. In the UK there were many groups advocating for women’s suffrage who believed the in the philosophy of ‘deeds not words’ Hunger strikes were common with women who were imprisoned for political reasons, this creating large publicity. The Prisoners' Temporary Discharge for Ill-Health Act, also known as 'The Cat and Mouse Act' was passed in 1913. This permitted the early
Women always tried to find a way they could fight for their country just like men did. They willing offered and volunteered. Women fought for more than 200 years to obtain the rights only white men were guaranteed. While women worked to help free slaves, they noticed similarities to the unfair matters to their situation. Why did women not have the same rights as men?
Women have virtually the same rights as men. However, the fault needing to be recognized in today’s society is the way that women are treated. Even in simple areas, such as jobs, women are put on the back burner. A woman is able to become a CEO of a company, nonetheless, she will struggle twice as hard as a man would. Even as an employee, women are statistically paid less than men are.
For hundreds of years men and women have had some equality issues, and there has been many stereotypes for certain things men and women can do. For example, women are known to be nurses, while men are more known to be mechanics . Also if you look into our government there are mostly filled with men , and only a few women . But for some reason women are always looked-over or mistreated worse than men Also men have been also making more money while women make less sometimes while working the same jobs . Equality for men and women is what I’m asking for . “On average , full-time working women earn just 78 cents for every dollar a man earns” (Your Right To Equal Pay ). This quote from the text shows how even when women who work hard still ends
Women have fought for equal rights and have succeeded for the most part. While the fight still goes on, many things have been achieved. To many in our modern day woman are still not completely equal and there are many who fight for equality. To others women have more than men in certain ways or some believe that women should not have equality. Women have fought for equal rights and to be treated equally alongside the men of the world and their fight has allowed them the right to many things yet some people believe that women are still not being treated equally.
Although women were granted to right to vote by the 19th Amendment in 1920 yet they were not elevated to a level playing field with men. Inequality and discrimination continued and we can still see it today especially in the workplace. Women are not being paid the same wage as men are. They are always left behind and told that they are less than men. Men always consider themselves as superior to women. It is just the way they are bought up. They feel like they are dominant to women in terms of everything. This has been going on for ages so people are just used to it. But at some point, all this needs to stop.
