Arguments for pit-bull should be banned
People generally want Pit Bulls and other Bully breeds banned for 2 main reasons:
1. Thugs who need a tough dog to feel tough intentionally doing everything they can to make their dogs mean. This includes, beating, starving, baiting, feeding weird crap like gunpowder....They also never socialize, train, or neuter their dogs. This intentionally creates a dog that is both dog and human aggressive and will most likely kill other pets and end up being euthanized for biting someone.
2. Well intentioned but irresponsible people who refuse to admit that their dog might be aggressive toward other animals. Even though the Pit Bull breed was created to fight combining the Bulldog's power

What we need is Breed-Specific Legislation (BSL); in simple terms, a statute or regulation that is directed toward this specific "dangerous" breed. Pit bull dogs have already been brought to the public's attention as a threat, and such legislation is strongly supported by the American Kennel Club (AKC). Stringent laws governing, preventing and/or restraining pit bulls have been passed in many states. For example, Florida's City Commission passed an
How often do people walk by a place and see someone getting attacked by a pitbull? Pretty much never. So why ban pit bulls from being pets whenever they don’t do anything to anyone? That’s right, they shouldn’t be banned. Pit bulls should be allowed to be pets because they help children and teens with ADHD, they’re not dangerous if raised properly, and banning pit bulls isn’t going to stop all dog bites.
Pit Bulls have been banned for many reasons but the biggest one is that they are known to attack people. When they are one of the most stable dogs in the country. When tested by the American Temperament Testing Society Pit Bulls achieved a passing rate of 83.9% vs the Beagles at 78.2%, and Golden Retrievers at 83.2% passing rate. The test that the American Temperament Testing Society performed was out of 122 dog breeds and the pit bull scored was one of the best. They have only been known to
An intense debate follows when the word Pitbull is mentioned. Pit Bulls do not have naturally, dangerous characteristics, yet they are still negatively perceived by people believing they are all aggressive dogs and dangerous to the public. The banning of Pit Bulls has caused the establishments of anti-Pit Bull banning organizations. Moreover, laws that ban this precious breed of dog creates illusions, but not the reality of public safety, which is why Pit Bulls should not be banned anywhere and must be allowed to live in any residential area with their owners.
Media promotes negative attention toward pit bulls just because pit bulls have a false reputation of being aggressive, and dangerous. Another example of this is when a Siberian husky killed an infant, and only 12 news outlets covered the story. But in a separate event where an infant was killed by what looked like a pit bull in the same month over 200 media outlets covered the story with the word “pit-bull” in the headlines as to draw attention (Holland). People read these stories about pit bull attacks than develop the idea that pit bulls are dangerous, and that maybe they should be banned since they attack people. When in reality other breeds of dogs bite and attack just
Pit bulls have been the main choice for dog fights throughout the years and are mostly bred just to keep more pit bulls in the ring, which has been the most inhumane. The puppies are raised in violence which creates vicious dogs for the fights. They have been selected for numerous fights because of their athletic build and ability to keep fighting even if they have broken legs or injured really badly. They have been selected for fights because of their athletic build and ability to keep fighting even if they have broken legs or injured really badly ( ). Any type of criminal likes the look of a mean companion that they could use for their own benefit, thus the pit bulls seemed ideal for any given circumstance. “Dogmen” are breeders that take dogs in for dog fights and their breed of choice as well is its. If a dog is under attack, naturally they are gonna fight their instincts and fight back. Like any living creature a dog has a fight or flight instinct that kicks in when threatened and they go on autopilot to protect themselves or their young as
Aggressive and/or vicious dogs are beginning to be a serious problem in the United States. With the rise in dog fights Pit Bull Terriers are viewed in a negative light. When the wrong owner gets a Pit Bull and withholds food and teaches the dog to fight it makes a very dangerous dog. Pit bulls are known for their bite strength and fearless personalities. Due to all the negative media, abusive and neglectful pit bull owners; the pit bull terriers are thought of as vicious and unsafe dogs to be around. Pit bull terriers are discriminated against due to a misconception of the breed itself.
Pit Bulls are known worldwide for being inherently dangerous and extremely vicious, but according to the American Temperament Test Society, Inc. 86.8% of American Pit Bull Terriers have passed their temperament tests better than Collies, Golden Retrievers, and Beagles. Many people don’t know that the term “bully breed” refers to more than forty breeds that hail from the same root breed. The history of the Pit Bull goes back to about the nineteenth century, during that time they were used to protect livestock, families, and even children as nannies (the Canine Journal). Today Pit Bulls are used as therapy dogs, police dogs, and of course a simple companion. Many myths about pit bulls circulate, which scares society into believing that they are dangerous to us and our families the question of banning Pit Bulls has been hotly discussed around the world, but banning Pit Bulls will not stop illegal breeding, fighting and distribution of Pit Bulls, other dogs from biting, and the problem will grow. The question of whether or not Pit Bulls should be banned is a hot topic in recent society, but the real question is should Pit Bulls be punished for the actions of their owners, or should laws be enforced at a higher degree.
Before the Civil War, when the first pit bulls came to America by English immigrants, they were a respected breed. They were used as guards and herd pets. In the early 1900’s they were one of the most popular breeds America. They became a symbol of American pride. Their pictures were used to recruit soldiers during World War One. One example of popular pit bulls was Stubby, a pit bull mix, who was a war hero. He once saved his entire platoon by warning them of a poison gas attack. The breed stayed famous in the 1950’s and 60’s. Although they do attack people and get mentioned on the news, other dog attacks
The pits that are raised in a fighting environment usually are the more aggressive dogs and the more likely to be euthanized because of their aggressive behavior. These fighting dogs are the reasons for most of the stereotypes directed towards the dog breeds. For example: “Pit bulls are the most aggressive dog breed” (17 Things...) Pit Bulls scored an 86.8% on the American Temperament Test or the ATT, which is a test that all dog breeds take in order to figure out the dog’s temper and aggression. The higher the score the better the dog, and the Pits just so happen to score second best, putting them above other common “nicer” household dogs like the Golden Retriever, the Beagle and the German Shepherd (Pisani). There are also many Pit Bulls being blamed for the actions of their owners, because of many of these actions it has caused many states to ban Pits. There are 17 states in the U.S. that have some type of pan against the breed (Pit Bull Bans (USA)...). Although these bans are places many criminals still continue to breed the dogs under ground and receive no
The first reason why i think this pit bulls should not be allowed as pets is because they are dangerous and vicious. Representative Bruce Goodwin stated,” the pit bulls’ has the distinction or characteristic that, when they grab on, they do not let go.” Also the best dog choice for drug dealers and other bad people is a pit bull for a reason that they are vicious.
The main reason pit bulls attack is because they are mentally unstable, a mixed breed and show overbearing traits, or because they are mistreated by their owners. The public must understand that the three “pit bull breeds were bred for dog fighting and bear and bull-baiting” (PBRC). On the other hand, they were also kept as “nanny dogs” and used for herding cattle. “Pit bulls are ideal for therapy work because of their pleasant nature” (PBRC). These are three of the most stable breeds known to man. They have a very high temperament test score, 86% as of 2010, a lot higher than most breeds. “The American Pit Bull Terrier is one of the top 5 most stable breeds in the country” (PBRC). Anyone can see that this is an excellent breed of dog. There are a few things that people should know though. “Pit bulls have a lower Tolerance to dogs, but with any breed, a dog’s tolerance changes as they mature” (PBRC). “Maturity can come late with pit bull breeds” (Villalobos Rescue Center). The reason for this low tolerance is because of their history of dog fighting. It has been bred into them to have the will to fight. Pit bulls usually do not start a fight most of the time, but they will not back down or give up. Due to this, owners must be cautious and attentive.
Bans keep more pit bulls from being confiscated and killed in shelters, not to mention preventing the dogs from being tortured in fighting rings. Pitbull fighting rings cause murder and crime. By getting rid of pit bulls, you can stop the crime. But, making laws against poor animal ownership would be more effective than bans. Many other breed-specific ordinances exist and hold promise for prevention of dog bites.
Some people believe that ) but they are wrong. Pit bulls can live happily alongside a families and an increase in care from the owners, will reduce maulings and euthanasia. The only people that are really affected by bans are responsible pet owners. Organizations that ban pit bulls do not understand that they are breaking up families by taking one of their family members away. This is important because children are being negatively affected. The best and only way for dogs and humans to coexist is to properly train them and eliminate the stereotype they have. Unfortunately, today, there are over 700 cities throughout the country that have a ban or restrictions against pit bulls. However State and local governments, such as Kansas City are
Pit bulls are the most misunderstood dog breeds in the world. When people hear the word pit bull they automatically think of dogs fighting and attacking. When people say "pit bull" they're usually referring to a range of breeds and, often, a mixed-breed dog. (Lawrence, C Louisville Magazine Feb 2007) People think they are a very dangerous breed of dog. Because of this, some areas do not allow pit bulls and breeds like them. Pit bulls are the leading culprit of dog bites in America, but on the other hand, they are the gentlest dogs people will ever meet. The National Canine Temperament Testing Association
“One night,me and one of my 4 pit bulls were laying down in the living room watching tv.Suddenly a car pulled into our driveway and all 4,including the one laying with me were barking at the intruder. The commotion all ended when they realized the intruder was,my uncle.Shortly after the civil war fighting dogs were imported to the U.S and were crossbred in hopes of creating the most vicious dog ever, the American Pit Bull Terrier.Since then dogfighting had expanded across the world and died down when it was banned in most parts of the world.30% of dogs rescued from dog fighting pens were pit bulls.Pits are being used to fight and kill other dogs.People should be able to keep pit bulls because, theyre good family dogs, loyal to their ownerss, protective
