Abstract
Arroyo Fresco (AF) currently provides services through eleven clinics and four mobile service vans across western Arizona. The three counties that are served through AF provide high quality primary care and preventative services to demographic areas with diverse geography, culture, income, and other varying factors (“Arroyo Fresco,” 2006). The facility guides its decision making process for organizational strategies with the combination of FOCUS and SWOT analysis. Arizona continues to add jobs at a very fast pace, comparing the 2nd quarter of 2012 to the same quarter in 2013. During the last year, hospitality, leisure, and construction added the most employment with each one increasing by over 10,000 positions (Hammond, 2013). Health services, professional and business services, financial activities, and education are in the top five and represent 85% of job gains. Arizona’s economy is still making very solid economic growth and continues to improve (Hammond, 2013).
Political Environment and Health Care Reform
Governor Jan Brewer emphasized her long-lasting opposition to President Barack Obama’s signature health care law. (Duda, 2013). With Obama’s reelection and the U.S Supreme Court upholding its key provisions, the Affordable Care Act (ACA) is the law of the land (Duda, 2013). Governor Brewer has since changed her tactics. When she opened the 2013 legislative, she announced that she was seeking a full expansion of Arizona’s Medicaid program under the Affordable Care Act. Arizona then became one of the several Republican-led states that have accepted the law’s Medicaid Expansion (Scott, 2013).
