The work I chose to conduct a formal analysis on is named Dying Warrior the artist is unknown since it was made between c. 490-480 or 470 BCE. The sculpture is made from marble and is 1.83 meters long. The statue was found in the left corner of the east pediment of the temple of Aphaia, Aegina. the statute appears to be anatomically correct which leads me to believe that the creator had a understand of the body and how it works. I believe that the subject of this sculpture is to tell a story of the death of a warrior and how he appears before death claims him. He wears a traditional greek helmet and has beard that covers his chin and neck. The statues origins are from Greece which explains the shield and helmet of this design. The sculpture also has rich detail throughout the entire body especially the face. The muscles are defined and the genitalia is visible the face is also surprising detailed with a very well-defined eyes, mouth, and nose. The creator of these piece must have had a keen eye for anatomy because the details put into the muscles is very amazing. This sculpture has a very somber tone to it when you look at it you see a completely naked man lying on his side with only a helmet and shield. Once you read the title though you then realize that this is a warrior and he is dying. The greek culture was very famous for their stories and myths so it is not to hard to believe that this statue was made to tell a story. When you look closely at the details you see that the statues hand is closed into a fist which appears as if he is in pain and is fighting it back also the way his body is laying gives us a hint towards pain and the end of his
