Cultural objects can practically be found anywhere. “A cultural object may be defined as shared significance embodied in form, [In other words] it is a socially meaningful expression that is audible, visible, or tangible or that can be articulated” (SOURCE). Cultural objects tell stories, and those stories could be interpreted in numerous different ways. The significances of cultural objects vary from individual to individual, as well as location and time. So, a cultural object valued in the United States, could have a totally different meaning and representation in another country. Lastly, cultural objects don’t have to be physical objects. They can be; an idea, songs, believes, videos, styles, pretty much anything as long as they could tell a story. With that being said, the meaning doesn’t have to be built into the actual object itself, but the representation of the object should be open for interpretation.
Different fashions will come in and out of style but people want to be able to stand out in their own manner showing the world how they express themselves. When most people see beautiful pottery or a delicate glass bowl, their minds do not go right to the science behind the art. They see the pot or bowl and only see the beauty and creativity that was required to make something so unique. Little do most people know, the artist is using chemistry to manipulate the material into something beautiful. As seen in pottery, from the molecular structure to its glazing, as well as the amorphous properties of glass and glassblowing, chemistry plays a vital role in the beauty of art, and it is important for artists to know the scientific processes behind their work.

At the age of eleven, when I should have been crafting friendship bracelets and experimenting with makeup, I troubled my parents and impressed my friends by taking on a colossal doll creation project. No longer interested in the plastic that lined the shelves: Bratz, Barbies, and Polly Pockets I wanted to own the exquisite Ball-Jointed doll, a rare doll with complete mobility and life-like features. As a storyteller only interested using realistic elements, I knew my friends and I had to have these dolls one way or another. With the sticker price being $800, I had no other choice but to create my own.

The human body is a significant object in the art of all the periods of human life. Since the time when people started to use tools and made first steps in the art they always tried to depict human body. The human figure has been represented in various forms such as sculptures and paintings (Morphy, 2014). Various civilizations, however, are different in their representation of human figures and the reasons of the art representation are also different. To understand these motives only visual analysis is not enough but learning the cultural and historical shreds of evidence behind these artworks is necessary. I chose two artworks to analyze, Marble Statue of a Wounded Amazon and Hatshepsut Seated.
The Venus of Willendorf figurines, or also know as “Woman of Willendorf”, were originally founded at a paleolithic site near Willendorf. Willendorf is a “village in lower Austria near the city of Krems.”(Mugadona). The sculptor put an emphasis on the female body parts when creating these figurines. Specifically parts that associate with being pregnant and bearing a child. With these distinguished markings it is believed to represent a fertility goddess. Many of the figures that were found are female. From this you can draw a conclusion that females were highly regarded in their culture, and that bearing a child was important. “Venus” is known as the goddess of love and beauty, since most of the statues are woman that could be a physical symbol

Visit any major museum of art, at any given time, and one could find an abundance of monumental names listed on tiny plaques hanging next to even more recognizable works of art. The excitement felt by any art enthusiast when walking into these buildings of time and creation, is undeniable and especially unique. Could it be the atmosphere of the building, the presence of artwork, the people, possibly the grandeur of the space, or perhaps, could it be the spirit of the artists themselves, peering through the work they created?
