Artemis was a strong, independent, and fierce figure in the Ancient Greek and Roman time period. She was the daughter of Zeus and Leto. She’s the twin sister of Apollo. She was the Greek goddess of the moon and hunting. She was also known as the protector of nature and hunt. Artemis appears in many different myths throughout Greek mythology. She also played a huge role throughout the Trojan War. Her most well known sign is the crest moon. Artemis was an adventurous and powerful goddess. Zeus, the king of the gods, was father to Artemis. Her mother was Leto, the goddess of modesty and kindness (“Leto”). According to, (“Artemis”) Artemis was born on the island of Delos. After giving birth to her, Artemis helped her mom to birth Apollo, her twin brother (“Artemis”). Zeus asked Artemis when she was three to name anything she wanted. Artemis said a bow, just like that of Apollo’s, all the world’s mountains, and just one city. Zeus gave her all that and so much more. He granted her with a silver bow and arrow made from the Cyclops. Zeus also gave her all the world’s mountains, and 30 cities. She was the projector of the nature, hunt, and young children. She was known as the goddess of hunting and the moon (“Artemis”). Artemis was known as being a very vengeful goddess. In one myth, her and Apollo wanted to defend their mother’s honor, after Niobe, a women who had 6 sons and 6 daughters said that her children were better than Artemis and Apollo. Leto sent her children to punish Niobe (Ed. John M. Wickersham,“Myths and Legends of the World”).
