History-Archaeology An artifact is a man-made object used by humans. Humans would create things like pottery, arrowheads, coins, tools, toys, and jewlery. Artifacts help archaeologists uncover the past, by giving them an idea of what our ancestors used and created back then. An example of an artifact is an arrowhead. Since arrowheads are made of rocks or bones the archaeologists could infer that they had the animal whose bones were used and the minerals that were used in the civilizations environment. Arrowheads also show that that civilization use to hunt. Another example is coins. Coins could show that the civilization had somewhat of a barter system going on. Coins could also show religious beliefs such as a picture of an important god

Many works of art can be considered artifacts that hold volumes of information regarding the culture of the people that created them and the historical context in which they lived.
For my artifact I constructed a document. Documents hold all sorts of information. In this case, these documents were from World War I. Knowing background information about the past is useful especially for World War 2. In this case for World War I, soldiers did not have any background information on wars for the reason that it was the first war to occur. Civilians during World War II, took inspiration and took the mistakes that soldiers messed up in WW1 as an opportunity to learn from their mistakes. In order to not repeat history again. Documents were used in order to keep track of special events that would occur during the time. In this case, this was something that the civilians based off of for World War 2, to know what types of battles
The first artifact I am using is the zoo animals. Antonina the zookeeper’s wife, nurses all of the baby animals she also takes care of the animals that are hurt or sick. Before the war had started the animals were Antonina’s life she guarded them with all her heart. When the war began lots of the animals were killed by bombs that were shot off by Nazi Germany. Other animals were killed by Nazi soldiers because the soldiers thought that the animals
Human beings, desire to maintain a connection with the past is achieved through the languages spoken, the various cultures practiced, and sadly through acquiring of cultural property by the means of grave robbing. Native Americans wanted justice for these past mistreatments and control over their history. According to Chip Colwell, campaigning, repatriation of indigenous artifacts began in the 1960s by indigenous activism. Finally, on November 16, 1990, The United States Government passed The Native American Graves Protection and Reparation Act. NAGPRA summarizes that museums must conduct an inventory of all native American cultural artifacts and remains. (Native) In addition, Museums send the inventories to federally recognized tribes, in
The history of archaeology plays an important role in the controversial issues surrounding the science. Archaeology has only recently become a concrete science. Although mankind has always had an interest in the past, the root of archaeology is believed to have started in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. During this time period, artifacts were mainly sought after for collecting. The upper class of the Renaissance period collected artifacts from places such as Rome and Greece to display in their homes as art. As time went on, the lure of historical art and artifacts increased. “Classical archaeology” is the direct result of this curiosity. The “classical archaeologists” were mainly wealthy men that collected artifacts for their homes and studied where they
A few of many artifacts found at Fort Tombecbe are glass pieces, rock tools, beads, nails, Choctaw pottery, European ceramics, brick, charcoal, and led shots. Artifacts are anything made, used, or altered by humans that can be portable. The artifacts that have survived over the years give archeologists a visual aid of some resources used by cultures from the past. Although artifacts provide a visual aid of used resources, they do not provide archeologist a detailed story about life at Fort
Merriam-Webster defines the word artifact as something created by human usually for a practical purpose: an object remaining from a particular period. In my family, there aren’t a lot of artifacts, but we do have a special artifact that means a lot to my mom’s side of the family. Similar to the way Brazilians celebrate Brazilian Carnival, in New Orleans, we celebrate Mardi Gras. Celebrating Mardi Gras is my family tradition. But my mom and I haven’t been in years due to school complications and other commitments. Every year when my mom and I miss Mardi Gras we go to the basement and find different Mardi Gras beads, and where them all day.
This paper is an analysis of the single cultural artifact that best represents the culture in which I live in today. The paper will provide a detailed analysis of the artifact and how it relates to the values and beliefs of the culture. Additionally, it will address the deep cultural roots of the artifact, the historical roots of the artifact, what allowed it to come into being and who was affected by its development. This information will come as someone trained from the humanities.
My first artifact is the American Flag. The American flag is red, white, and blue. On the blue part there are 50 stars on it, each one represents a state. There are red and white stripes beside the blue part. This is important to me because I love my country and I would do anything to protect it. Another reason I chose it is the flag gave me my freedom and if it were not for that flag we would have monarchy instead on democracy.
III. State your opinion on what you believe is the purpose of this artifact and the success of the creator in achieving the purpose. For instance, what message do you believe the creator is trying to express, and is that message successfully expressed? [You examined this in 2-3-1 Worksheet: Reasons for Creating Artifacts.]
Anthropology is the study of humans in the past and present. Four subfields encompass anthropology; Archaeology, cultural anthropology, linguistics, and physical anthropology. Archaeology is the study of human cultures in the past through material remains. These material remains include artifacts as well as architecture. Archaeologist can focus in prehistoric, historic, or classical archaeology. Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark, is an example of archaeology in film. It is not the best example since Dr. Jones does not carry the correct equipment with him in the field (notebooks, trowel, shovel) nor does he take any notes when removing an artifact from a site. However, the film does portray how an archaeologist would dig in order to recover artifacts, like when Indy and the team find the
Documentary and artifactual data includes texts, photos, and other tangible items from the site that they are being collected from, analyzed and reviewed. By reviewing the documents artifacts and materials of a culture provides the researcher with an unobtrusive method of gaining information and may offer other forms of information that’s unavailable from any other data source. According to (Bamberger, et, al, 2006) journals, artifacts, photo’s and artwork may provide information of occurrences that have happened before the evaluators arrival.
• The study of the past based on recovering and identifying artifacts and making inferences about those who left these artifacts is called Archaeology .
