The two historical documents, Narrative of Lavinia Bell written by an anonymous author in the Montreal Gazette and the Letter to an English Abolitionist by James Henry Hammond, shared their strong opinions on the important issue of slavery. These documents were written in the 1800’s during an era of progressive changes. One can identify similarities and many differences in their opinions, motives, and goals for their writings. I believe Bell’s account was written to show the perspective of slaves’ brutal view, compared to Hammond’s letter justifying slavery and the rights of the slaveholders.

As I faced the final exam of my Viet 4 Honors class in the fall semester, I realized a big mistake in my exam that could destroy my grades. The people have misunderstood the history because there are many religions that see the history and the actions and that may lead into a wrong decision but still people take because they think history is always right and as we know that history was told to us and it is not seen by us so it can be wrong or right. The three books, "The Interesting Narrative," by Olaudah Equiano, "Victors and Vanquished," by Stuart B. Schwartz, and "A Social Contract," by Jean-Jeacques Rousseau, each provide a view of the modern era in their own individual ways. Olaudah Equiano's account of his life as a slave is directed at the problem of slavery. Stuart B. Schwartz' "Victors and Vanquished," provides a collection of personal accounts about the conquest of Mexico under the command of Hernando Cortes. Lastly, Rousseau's, "A Social Contract," expounds upon the problems that
