Aspen Blackburn Intro. to Education 4/7/2014 Special Education The topic I chose to write about is special education. In this paper I will be explaining what special education is, how to as a parent help your child with being in this program, how it helps the children, who you should talk to about getting your child in, expectations, deciding to put your child in special education, and how to take your child out if you are no longer wanting them in this program. Special education is a program set up for kids with special needs that need help. You can be in this program from the day you are born till you are 21 years of age. It is a long but totally worth it process. If you want information about special education you can talk to a few people about it. You can ask your doctor on what they think would be best. You could also talk to a person who helps with children that have disabilities. Or you could go to the school and talk to them about their special education program. As a parent it will probably be hard to put your child in special education but you should do what is best for them. They think their child will overcome the disability they were diagnosed with. That could be a possibility but you want what is best for you child. The kids may become really upset, stressed, and get anxiety about being put into special education. And then students sometimes accept the fact they are going to be put into this program. You should have expectation for your child being in this program. Maybe not ridiculous ones you know they can’t achieve. But you should have expectations as your child being in this program. You do not want really high ones and them not being able to reach your expectations. But you also do not really low ones that don’t give them any type of challenge. They need challenges in their life. And no not huge challenges but challenges so they don’t get everything handed to them. They need something to work for. Getting your child out of special education. When you decide to take your child out of special ed. You have to have legitimate reasons on why
