CoffeeVille is a family-owned and run café located in Melbourne. CoffeeVille aims to serve quality food and fair trade coffee at a city pace. The café is currently open 7 am–5 pm, Monday to Friday.
CoffeeVille has been experiencing consistent growth in sales and numbers of customers over the last two years. This growth has led to a need for a second floor manager who is able to manage customer complaints, take responsibility for higher level café operations and manage staff performance.
The current manager, Joe Belfone, works four days a week. Joe is a good manager, but when he’s not there on Fridays, the café does not run as smoothly. The owners of the café
Five years ago David and Alison opened a small café inside the nursery. They now have two full-time staff and an additional part-time staff member who works over lunch-time and on weekends; although during the school holidays Alison’s daughter also assists in the café. Café Diem is a student run business, run by the Hospitality department of Mercyhurst University. Café Diem would be described as a concession stand type area for students that are caught up in studying, or just getting out of class and would like something to eat. The café consists of made to order food and beverages as well as prepackaged snacks. The managers who run the establishment are also students themselves. Their duties require making very important decisions, running the decisions off by their general manager, setting goals, and then accomplishing the goals needed by the end of each week. Even though their position is through a university department, the experiences they achieve is necessary to take up an almost similar role as a manager in almost anywhere where it requires a manager position. I am lucky enough to be able to get insight on more of the duties from one of the two student managers, Renee Buchheit who has run the establishment since Spring of 2016.
