The next individual who was identified as a leader was George Voskovec (Juror 11), the watchmaker. He displayed the characteristic of determination, forward-looking, emotional stability, and passion. He asked specific question he wanted answered and was driven to figure out the proper verdict, instead of settling for what everyone else said. He looked past the surface and dug deeper, looking for other outcomes and possibilities others were missing. Furthermore, he maintained his emotions through adverse situations when other jurors sarcastically poked at him about his manners, did not sink to their level and have an emotional response (Lumet, 1957). Moreover, after individuals began to switch votes because they wanted it to end sooner, he intensely …show more content…
Through his numerous characteristics displayed, as well as a will times speech, he encouraged everyone to continue on in the face of adversity. When immense fighting was continually happening and the end result seemed unachievable, he encouraged them to stay strong. Kouzes & Posner (2012) describe how leaders must show other that they still belief in the cause, encouraging others to believe as well. Reminding them of the great responsibility them have and resourcefulness democracy brings, showed the others he still believed in what they were doing (Lumet, 1957). Furthermore, he pointed out the fact that they had nothing personally to gain or lose. This was recognizing the sacrifices everyone was making to be there and the vast contributions. By stating this he was encouraging a spirit of community and providing support for those who were struggling (Kouzes & Posner, 2012). Finally, when he spoke about being strong and not taking it personally, he was encouraging others to not give up. At the heighted emotions being exhibited, many individuals could have given up; however, he reassured them of their goals and ability to keep
Ultimately these factors would result in my behaviour being that of an affiliative and democratic style of leadership. It is also possible that a coaching style my also become apparent, where the factor is that of a personal situation.
I have held many leadership roles throughout my nursing career: Certified Nursing Assistant Team Leader, Nursing Supervisor, Unit Manager, Assistant Director of Nursing, and most recently I was promoted to the position of Director of Nursing. It has been quite a rewarding journey and I attribute my success as a leader to my ability to uphold a representation of a positive role model. I believe that good leadership comes from the heart. When a leader considers the hearts of others or empathizes with them; the leader is able to effectively sway people to action. Thus, I tend to inspire my team and myself to work together in solving problems or completing a work. I communicate effectively my goal to my team; with the awareness that my success
What does being a Leader mean ? A team leader is someone who provides guidance, instruction, direction, leadership to a group of other individuals for the purpose of achieving a key result. The team-leader monitors the quantitative and qualitative result that is to be achieved. The leader works with the team membership. A good team leader will coach, direct, support or delegate at the appropriate time including the individual members who are best enabled to deliver the necessary results. Leadership can been described as a process of social influence in which a person can enlist the aid and support of others in the

My Leadership philosophy is influenced by President Abraham Lincoln and his leadership style which resounds with me on how one should act and leader others. In fact, his willingness to get out of the office and circulate around the people is one of the foundations of his leadership style and is resonated by Master Chief Cantrell as he calls all chiefs to get out from behind our desks and get to know our people. This trait along with his character as it relates to honesty and integrity align directly with how I believe a leader should act. Leadership for me is not just telling people what needs to be done, but in order to be an effective leader we must get to know those we lead and above all we must be honest with everyone around us, both
This paper will highlight and reflect, on some of my nursing experiences working in the healthcare industry. However, I would like to state nurses in practice face a plethora of conflicts, ethical and moral stress. I reference more importantly ethical and moral stress, because each day a nurse clocks in to work, must diligently place duty and obligation as the driving force to care for patients. However, working within an organization, has many constraints that stem from policies and regulations, resulting in a system based on traditional values and beliefs. The systems found in the healthcare organizations are systems with departmental responsibility based on checks and balances that provides systems for responsibility and accountability. In observation and practice, I have discovered, that the systematic structures in place, are also necessary, to reinforce standards of care, quality assurance and safety of patient care. Any adverse conditions can result in costly fines and loss of licensure for the healthcare organization.
One of the challenges facing nurses today is learning how to be an effective leader. Assessing and analyzing the style of leadership the nurse possesses is the first step in facing the challenge. The purpose of this paper is to analyze and understand the characteristics of my style of leadership from an assessment performed by Gallup Strength Finders and DiSC and compare the strengths I have in common with Eleanor Roosevelt.
My leadership philosophy is constantly developing over time. There is not one leader that stands out individually, however there are many traits from my past leaders that I use. The traits used by my past leaders help me in the development of my philosophy throughout the years. There are several values that I think make the perfect leader. These attributes are the values of humor, the will to always improve, and trust. With these three values, one can always improve the organization while maintaining high standards and moral.

it is being a leader who is ethical and who goes beyond self-interest to help the group. This questionnaire affects my own leadership because it tells me that I have the problem of being too laissez-faire when there are situations where I need to be more direct.
Hersey and Blanchard’s Situational Leadership Theory (SLT) asserts that a leader’s effectiveness is dependent upon the readiness, or ability and willingness, of the leader’s followers to complete a task. This leadership style is an amalgamation of task-oriented and relationship-oriented characteristics that are employed depending upon the situation and the followers involved. According to the SLT, as followers increase in readiness the leader’s style is to adapt accordingly (Kinicki & Kreitner, 2009).
I currently work for a retail organization that is globally well known. The retail organization was built to provide products and customer services to consumers worldwide. The retail store consists of a store manager, department managers, human resource, sales associates and security teams. The organization relies on sales profit in order to remain competitive in todays marketing industry. However, without the sales associates willingness to participate in the organization’s goals and objectives, the organization will not have the ability to maintain their place in todays marketing industry.
During the past ten weeks, I have strengthened my concept of what constitutes effective leadership. Importantly, it is a leadership style that maximises the contributions of followers to achieve the desired outcomes for the organisation they represent. As Nanjundeswaraswamy & Swamy (2014, p.57) explains, effective leaders need to balance the drive to achieve a task with managing relationships. Therefore, it is essential for good leadership to not only focus on the task but develop, motivate and empower team members to strive for the achievement of task goals.
