When this class started at the beginning of this semester I was not sure I would learn a lot. The main objectives of this class were fairly simple. There were five main objectives to use and know. They are the following:
1. Come to class on a regular basis. 2. Make sure that when we miss class that we contact the others in our group and instructor. It is our own responsibility to contact the group for any updates/notes or anything missed from class or group meeting. 3. Work on group assignments collaboratively and ask for input from the other groups as needed or the instructor to further move along to accomplish goal/assignments. 4. Meeting time/place: Schaumburg or Hoffman Estates ??? TBD 5. Switch roles per assignment: The following roles will be
I agree with you that assessments in a group is essential to understand the functioning of the group members. Also, I believe that it is important to assess individual members as well as the group as a whole. As a group facilitator we must constantly gather pertinent information that will be used to achieve the individuals and groups goals. Assessing the group helps to make the group more cohesive and beneficially to the members. You made a great point that understanding the characteristics of the group members can help improve group participation. I do believe that if a member is not participating does not mean that they are not benefiting from the group. Also, having a member that monopolize the group does not they are
An important part of our learning and growing experience must stem from our ability to analyze and reflect upon the groups that we have been members in. This reflection can define our understanding of the weaknesses both in ourselves and in the others within our group; and it can help to shape the way that we act in future groups. Adjusting ourselves to compensate for our weaknesses, based upon an honest and thorough examination of our actions within a group setting, is one of most important thing for any person to do. It is only through this evaluation that we can improve ourselves and our interactions with others. This paper will examine a group that was required to make an important decision about adding a new member
Interest Groups There are thousands of interest groups all over the world. All of them ranging from different belief systems, strong subject matters, personal opinions, and more. Amazing individuals find something that they are passionate about, and they start a group with other people who are also passionate about the same thing. These groups normally form because something they care about is being threaten, or because something is happening that they don’t agree with. So then interest groups began and the individuals come together to have one voice and speak out their opinion. However, starting one up on your own and getting people to join could present a challenge.
The start of class we began with a group exercise to practice with our breathing and our interaction with our classmates. We had arrive and say the person’s name with ease. It was an exercise to make sure to you knew everyone. How your you react and how the breath takes a part of your speech once you speak. My experience with this exercise was I felt I was not taking the time to breathe, where I would just say the person’s name.
After eight long, grueling weeks, this class is finally coming to an end, with this last paper. It 's amazing to look back and see everything that I have accomplished in this class, in the small amount of time that we have to complete this course. This has honestly been my most successful class to date, not only have I have I accomplished many goals that I set for myself at the beginning of class, but I have also learned many new strategies that I can use for the future to come. For this paper I want to talk about how, in detail, about the class assignments, the essays, and also the organization of this class.
Working in groups isn't the easiest thing to do. A lot of the time there's conflicts of interest on the future of the group, but working in groups also teaches you basic life skills like patience, cooperative and learning how to compromise. Back in high school, I was the President of the Student Against Destructive Descisions group. On a bi-weekly schedule, we would have meetings. Prior to these meetings, myself and others in the leadership position would discuss topics of these meetings. There were many disagreements, but for the most part, it was a friendly environment. It was enjoyable when things went right. It was challenging to get everyone on the same page. Some people were just in the club for credit and didn't care to make an effort
A time in my life in which I had to collaborate in a team rather than doing it alone was in my algebra math class in high school. As everyone was being dumbfounded by a problem the teacher posted for us, it was the first time we had seen a circle graphing problem. I was the type of student that others would turn to when they needed help on a problem, or just wanted the answer. Being others beacon of hope when in trouble puts enormous pressure on me, especially when I was just as clueless about this math problem in particular. I took the liberty of leading my table to solving the problem as a group. Using this method was an epiphany to realizing how the best possible work is done when a group cooperates. For instance, one person can detect
I’ll admit, English is not my favorite subject. I don’t have a problem with writing, and at times I write for pleasure, however reading seems to bore me. When I was younger, I liked reading, but over the years, it has become something that my teachers force me to do, and it lost my interest. Maybe it could’ve been from the required reading and writing logs, but now I read because I know I have to; not for my own amusement. Despite my animosity of reading, there were two books that stood out for me more than others in this past year. Both selections were assigned to read in our class "book groups". It's unusual that these are the stories that I’ve enjoyed most in the past year, because typically students dislike reading groups. They think they're
Before starting the exercise, many of us in the group took out paper, something to write with, and Vincent setting his phone to act as a timer. Like everyone in the first minute, all of us stayed silent as possible. I would look straight while others either look at their paper reading the instructions in their heads or stare at other group members. All of us took notice of the awkward silence of the room the only sounds we can hear were chairs creaking and the breathing from near-by groups. Within the first three minutes of the exercise, my throat began to itch. I couldn’t cough as it would break the silence. Group members notice my facial reaction as some mistook it as a smile. Many of the members were starting to write their observations on their notes as the estimated three minutes pass by. I soon followed their lead in writing quick notes. During the observation, I took notice of a large pink bottle, a sticker of an owl on a Mac Book, and thick lipstick stain on a Coca-Cola can. I also took notice of the strong cologne smell from another classmate next to me.
Question 1 - Would you grant any of the special requests of the four expat candidates? Provide your rationale.
In this experiment, the participants were tested on both conditions, which are congruent trials and also the incongruent trials. I used within subject experimental design to find the p-value under the assumption that the difference between the congruent and incongruent conditions are only happening due to random chance. In the simulation, I put all the data of the incongruent reading time (seconds) in the group A and all the data of the congruent reading time (seconds) in the group B. Then, I run the simulations 100,000 times as the data have been stabilized at this point. In this case, by clicking the run simulations button, it means that the pairs of data that being generated by the same subject always go together and simply randomize which condition each data point is assigned to within a pair. I get the mean of group A is 414, the mean of group B is 210.5 and the difference in means is 203.5. The difference in means between the two groups is the test statistics in this case. Then, I determine the p-value by selecting the range based on difference of means and select range of both tails of the distribution by selecting the “outside” option. Then I adjusted the range slider to be between -203.49 and 203.49. I do this because I select the data that is just below 203.5, which is the difference of the means of these two groups all the way to the opposite. It worked because the distribution is symmetric between 0. I get the p-value of 0.0309 (3.09 divide by 100), which is
This large-scale course runs on a traditional semester schedule with sixteen weeks of instruction. The course is comprised of both a one-unit lecture and two-unit lab. The lecture component is taught by a faculty member who is the lecture instructor, course designer, and supervises teaching assistants.
This paper will attempt to describe as well as consider more consciously, my learning, my experiences as well as critically analyse the effect of the course, the module on my learning. It will also reflect on my weaknesses and how I have improved on them, the experiences I have had in my group, my skills, attitudes as well as the behaviors over the course to date. I will also attempt to explain the extent to which I feel I have undergone personal as well as professional change.
