Jim’s self-concept displays his upset that no matter the amount of effort he applies to his grades he will never meet his father’s expectations. This discourages Jim, creating self-doubt and a negative impact on his self-esteem. Jim feels that he cannot do better than what he is doing because he possibly feels defeated.
Jim’s father’s applied negative direct definitions by accusing Jim of goofing off and/or not applying himself to his studies. Negative direct definitions possess the ability to potentially damage the self-esteem, especially in children (Wood, 2012).
2. How is self-concept affecting the interaction? Is it helping it? Hindering it? Explain using concepts from the text. Self-concept hinders the interaction between Jim and his

Using the guidelines for improving perception and communication starting on page 79 of the text, provide at least two tips for both Jim and his father on how to handle the situation in an effective way. Make sure to incorporate the text guidelines with proper in-text citations to support your points.
The first thing Jim needs to do is remember that he is not able to know what his father is thinking. “When we mind read, we act as though we know what is on another person’s mind (Wood, 2012).” This is not only frustrating for the person mind reading but for the person being read as well. Jim should have attempted to explain what was going on to his father to clear up any uncertainty.
Jim’s father should have used positive reinforcement, instead of boasting about his own academic career, while assuming the worst in his son. Jim should examine the accomplishments of his academics instead of trying to live up to his fathers.
Jim should also organize his needs or priorities when sitting down to study or do his homework. This will help him stay focused, on subject, while working on his assignments. If having people present while working on his academics is hindering his ability to focus, he should find seclusion so he can give his assignments all his attention. Jim needs to determine an acceptable social or study schedule to avoid lack of sleep or study

Explain why effective communication is important in developing positive relationships with children, young people and adults.
Effective communication is important so there are a number of strategies that can be used to make it easily understood and improve the effectiveness of the communication. positive communication in a classroom will help the children feel comfortable in your presence your own communication must always be positive and use language that will be understood by children and young people. Positive communication will promote trust which is important when working with all ages. By demonstrating the right kind of behaviour in different circumstances as well as body language the children and young person will gain in confidence. But not all children have access to consistent and effective communication so it is important that they see this at school and

The key is to adapt your behaviour, speech, body language and communication according to your audience. A toddler or a younger child will need simpler words, shorter sentences and some physical contact such as cuddles and high fives for reassurance, younger children also have much shorter attention spans so learning through songs, pictures, games and play may be beneficial, this again will allow the child to see you play with them or cuddle them allowing a bond to form and trust to build.
Billie, I love when people who are communicating information to people are clear and direct with what they want to say. It seems like your former boss was a great communicator and knew what she was doing. There is a fine line between being a good boss and a bad one, and I feel communication is a huge part in that. The fact that she kept in contact with you goes to show that her communication skills are still great.
[Describe in a short paragraph how, in a recent conversation, your communication behavior contributed to your physical, relational, identity, spiritual, and instrumental needs. Which need or need took precedence? Why? Page 9]
Aidan was using verbal communication when he was doing something, such as when he was spinning around with the plasma cart and he says, “I am spinning around!” Aidan also was using verbal communication when he was with Quinto and Ethan, such as when he was telling them the helicopter was a dinosaur. Aidan was using non-verbal when he was listening to his peers.
8. The looking glass self has a crucial impact on children. This is because as they are going through the developmental stages of self, children will be very conscious of those around them and how those people view them. For example, if a parent is constantly yelling, even if it is not always directed at the child, the child would most likely feel that the parent is angry with them. This is turn will cause the child to feel like a problem; therefore, affecting their self-concept making the child feel unworthy or
The communication decisions I would change would me minimal, if assignment 11 was to create, organize, outline, and deliver an effective persuasive appeal speech. For example, step 1 is define communication goal. Instead of the purpose being to inform it would simply change to persuade. Next, step 2 is to evaluate receiver/situation. I wouldn’t change anything in this step because it doesn’t matter what is your purpose you still have to consider the variables such as interference. Lastly, step 3 is to create the message. In this step I would also do some changes because my word choices would change because I am not informing my audience, I am persuading them and therefore I need to choose words that would help me persuade my audience.
The assignment on this week is to analyze communication skills. People, as a whole, like to feel that they are good communicators. (Kolb, 1994) However, in many instances, the transmitter thinks relayed information in being sent positively and the recipient perceives the message negatively. (Baack, 2012) This is an interesting assignment because what is communicated in not what is received.
My thoughts regarding chapter three were amazing. I always thought verbal communication was needing to know how to interact with others, and that speech was simply about knowing to pronounce your words. However, overall chapter three definitely covers a broader aspect of speech and verbal communication. For example, I believe expressing emotions can is an unlearn skill because in chapter three it mentions “Some people are generally not good at or comfortable with receiving and processing other people’s feelings.” (Jr.)
of the behaviors that interfere with their peer interactions, they are more likely to have the
In this assignment it will show effective communication and the different ways that service user communicate with the professional that’s doing the assessment. These are done in four stages which are planning and preparation, establishing and agreeing with purpose, providing information and explaining.
Jim is an enigma to almost all who meet him, and the secondary characters in this novel, combined with Marlow’s analysis, enable the reader to compare and contrast Jim with different personalities to
