Archaeology in the media is portrayed as very high risk and thrilling. Not to diminish the excitement of archeology, but the portrayal of archeology in movies is extremely exaggerated and far from accurate. In Indiana Jones Indy is often plagued by so many forces that try to set him back from his archaeological goals. He faces looters, booby traps, destructive weather, etc…
Archaeology is the most common way to learn about the existence of humans. Many cultures have left written records behind providing information about life for them. The records left behind often tells about wealth, religion, hierarchy, important dates, property ownership and etc. Those records are often written from one person prospective and may not be all true. Understanding the life of past cultures that have no written records is what make archeology important. Archeology gives a voice to the voiceless with the hope of discovering their story.
Stratigraphy is one of the primary contexts that the archaeologists look at in field work because stratigraphy, combining with the law of superposition, is essential and very helpful in deciphering the approximate time that the antiquities have been under the ground. Beyond that, the stratigraphy also serves in some other functions that help understand the archaeological record profoundly.
Archaeologist study of the past human culture and behavior through the examination of material remains. They study fossils of humans, food remains, the way buildings look and items such as tools, pottery and jewelry. The Mayan's and Mali's have similar artifacts that they could almost be mistaken for one another's culture artifacts. Sociocultural anthropologist would be the second best theory next to archaeologist because socio actually goes into these cultures natural habitats and see exactly how they live and live it with them. They get to have one on one situations with either the youth of the adults in these villages and this how they see similarities or differences between cultures. Socio anthropologist would know once they enter these

Binford discusses the historical-cultural approach, by first acknowledging that it contributed to a vast amount of archaeological data that increased the limited knowledge that was available to archaeologists in the past (Binford, 1962). One of the concerns he had with this approach was the fact that archaeologists who were looking at this data, were providing explanations centering on specific events rather than the processes of cultural change and evolution (Binford, 1962). Matthew Johnson clarifies this limitation in his book, Archaeological
• The study of the past based on recovering and identifying artifacts and making inferences about those who left these artifacts is called Archaeology .
The reason I think archeologists have more 'advanced' technology is because they have a lot of ties with nasa and other aerial programs to discover buried or even just hidden civilizations- blind to the naked eye. And yet with all these different satellite and radio wave technologies we're able to almost see underground where the tombs, roads, homes, etc were located during that time period. Like the article said earlier- (search for ancient civilizations) "Before doing fieldwork in Middle Egypt, I analyzed satellite imagery to determine exactly where I wanted to go. Within three weeks I found about 70 sites. If I had approached this as a traditional foot survey, it would have taken me three and a half years."
Since the beginning of time, there has been a great amount of progress throughout the world. From cultural adaptations, the creation of social classes, technological advancements, the spread of languages, and so on. We know about all of these progressions simply because of anthropology. By studying humans, of the past and the present, anthropologists have learned how humans have evolved throughout time, how they have adapted to their world, their own personal ways of living, as well as how they communicated with one another. One of the ways anthropologists are capable of learning such things, is through the study of archaeology. By digging up past civilizations, archaeology allows anthropologists to put all the missing pieces together and to
Processual archaeology was a movement in the 1960s also known as “new archaeology”, which modeled the theory and method of the scientific method. Processual archaeology examines how the component parts of a culture function as a system at one point in time and how cultures change over time, it seeks to discover the cause of a change in a culture. Processualists would reject the way archaeology was view before which was a set of norms held by groups and communicated with other groups by meeting, but it is being argued with the theory of processual archaeology that remains of culture were the behavioral outcome of a population’s adaptation to a specific environmental condition. The New Archaeology’s theory formed through model building and hypothesis
The Job Description of an Archaeologist is to examine artefacts and history that range from prehistoric to modern times. Archaeologists gain information by excavating areas of interest. Archaeology allows us to uncover objects and materials that often support previous eras and events. An article stated, " What archaeology shows is a history of settlement in this region" (Davies). One example from a website stated, “Archaeology is similarly used today in Israel and the Palestinian territories by both the Israelis and the Palestinians, as each seeks to gather physical evidence that their ancestors were there first and, consequently, the rightful owners of the land” (“What Role”). Most people’s perception of archaeology is that archaeologists are digging just to find nice treasures, but the materials found can also encourage us to read and analyze the connection between the findings and the word of God. Biblical archaeology has
Typically, archaeologist examine, recover, and preserve evidence of human activity in past cultures. They analyze human remains and artifacts, such as tools, pottery, cave paintings, and ruins of buildings.
