Question 3: Industrial/Market Revolution The American industrial revolution brought about many changes that would have an everlasting effect on America and its citizens for years to come. Americans went from hand crafting materials in their homes to mass producing materials in factories. Many significant inventions occurred during this time. The market revolution is the term used to describe the expansion in the consumer market in the early 19th century. Both would create a domino effect of change. Many would say that the revolution begun with the opening of the first efficient factory in America in 1790 by Samuel Slater. This was a great turn for the American textile industry. He was the first to bring the British textile technology to America, making him known as the father of the American Industrial revolution. Shortly after, in 1794, Eli Whitney would patent the cotton gin. This was a simple machine that would separate the …show more content…

The economy was changing and the way people earned money was changing. This was the first time we would begin to see people separated by class. This was most extreme in the cities when we first would see a rise in concentration of wealth. The better-off benefited more often than the workers. There was a huge change in housing patterns and slums became a part of the cities. These slums would house working class families but often represented the poorest of people. This was also the first time we would see a middle class emerge. This class would benefit from the changes that the industrial revolution brought. It seemed that through the middle class families we would start seeing gender roles take place. Men would become more involved in manufacturing work and women and children would stay home. Those who benefited least from the industrialization of America were black families. People still believed in segregation and it was hard to get ahead in such a newly competing
