ASSIGNMENT: P1 Hospital – Pharmacy Law/Policy 1. List the activities unlicensed individuals can perform in a pharmacy. Also, list the activities unlicensed individual are not authorized to perform in a pharmacy. What activities can a pharmacy intern (who holds a New York Pharmacy Intern permit) perform? Unlicensed personnel can get stock, deliver medications, prepare medications, and compound IV solutions. Interns can do anything a pharmacist can do anything a pharmacist can do under the supervision of a pharmacist except double check controlled substances. 1- Activities unlicensed individuals can perform in a pharmacy • Receive written or electronic transmitted prescription • Typing prescription labels • Retrieving and returning drugs to/from stock • Retrieving prescription files and other manual records from storage and locating prescriptions • Counting dosage units of drugs • Placing dosing units into appropriate containers • Affixing the prescription label to containers • Preparing manual dispensing records for signature/ initials of the pharmacist • Handing or delivering completed prescriptions to the patient • All dispensing-related activities of unlicensed personnel must be inspected by a pharmacist Activities unlicensed individuals are not authorized to perform in a pharmacy • Receive oral prescriptions • Interpret or evaluate a prescription for conformance with legal requirements, authenticity, accuracy, interactions with other drugs • Make any determinations
