Our mother recently went through a difficult time due to the loss of a friend. The Bickford Director, Nurses, and entire staff went far and beyond to help her. Robin, Deb, Cheryl and Cindy all looked for different ways to help the situation. Because of their efforts, mom has improved and is once again enjoying her Bickford family. The Bickford staff goes above and beyond to assure their residents are receiving the best care! It takes special people to provide assisted living care and everyone at Bickford is just that!
No caretaker would leave their loved one in a facility with rude, unqualified, untrained, or even outnumbered staff members. This consideration is something Superior Residences of Brandon prides itself on, and with good reason to. The training of the staff at Superior Residences is top notch – the employees must undergo 16 hours of training prior to employment, obtain a certification in CPR, participate in monthly employee meanings, obtain certification in Alzheimer’s Level 1 and 2, and continuing education courses provided by the state. Also unique to this facility, all employees are cross-trained and are certified Resident Aides (RA’s), which means they can approach any worker, for example a janitor, with a question or need and that employee would be able to assist (Andrew, J., personal communication, October 28th, 2016). As Jill Andrew’s stated, there are at least 4 RA’s in the building at all times for 70 residents, and although there are no nurses required under the license, they do have 5 nurses on staff. Another principle unique to Superior Residences was their dual licenses, having both an Extended Congregate Care license, which allows residents to age in place (Andrew, J., personal communication, October 28th, 2016) and a Limited Nursing Services license, which enables the facility to provide a select number of nursing services.
Hello Dr. Ullom, majority of the long term care facilities are under staffed. There is usually one registered nurse in charge to manage a 240 bed facility, with LPN's and nursing assistance. I feel that these patients would benefit from having one RN to every six -eight patients with a nursing assistance. Not only would this benefit the patient but the nurse as well. Patient are placed in long term care facility with a certain problem, but ends up with additional condition such as UTI, MRSA, pressure ulcers, and etc. These issues are related to poor care they receive because of unstaffing. I'm not placing blame on the LPN or nursing assistance, but with a RN and low nurse to patient ratio, they will receive better care.
Vicki, I spoke to Lisa and she refused the offer for an Assisted Living long term move; in addition to the room size, the rooms in ASL were not inviting enough. As per Lisa, she does her mother’s pill box, Ms. Shilling eats all of the groceries that she brings in weekly, Ms. Shilling is clean and free of odor and Lisa does her laundry. Lisa is not concern about her mother’s falls, she feels she will fall wherever she is. Essentially, Lisa feels her mother is not at the point to move to ASL at this time.

A patient is admitted to your surgical center for minor surgery that involves a breast biopsy under local anesthesia. The surgeon has previously informed the patient of the surgery risks, options, desired outcomes, and possible complications. A staff member brings the surgical permit form to the patient for her signature. The patient readily states that she knows about the surgery and has no additional questions. She signs the form with no hesitation.

Humanity is living longer these days creating the need for long-term care facilities. Today’s families need to work outside the home forcing their loved ones to enter the dependency of the extended care and long-term care facilities. More and more of the retirees are seeking better facilities for themselves because there are more options. There are more than meets the eyes in the nursing and long-term care that involves families and personnel in the decision making for their loved ones.
The long-term care system is aimed at providing continued care to individuals both in facilities and at home. Many people associate long-term care specifically with nursing and assisted living facilities, but long-term care is so much more. This care can be provided to an individual whether they are home or in a specialized facility (National Institute on Aging, 2017). In essence, the system of long-term care involves the coordination of facilities, providers, and case manager support to provide the best quality of care for individuals.
Following this, the health care system has been attempting to adjust to the decreased funding which has attributed to the rise in health inequalities and challenges with accessing quality care (Hick, 2014). Furthermore, these reductions in the financing have emerged in many long-term care (LTC) facilities that have cut their expenses by employing lower educated staff and decreasing their staffing levels (Walter, Wodchis, Anderson, Anderson, 2007). As a result, research on the cost of implementing good quality care in long-term care facilities revealed that by having well-trained staff, they could save money by preventing risks to seniors health (Walter et al., 2007). For example, skin ulcers, use of physical restraints, incontinence and levels
Hanson, Massachusetts is a town on Plymouth County with a total population of 11,063 as of July 1, 2017. This town is well-populated, but you won't find many things to do beyond dining out, some local shopping, grocery shopping, enjoying nature, and grabbing a quick coffee and bite from the local Dunkin Donuts or McDonald's. It's peaceful and serene, especially at the local senior living community, All American Assisted Living.
You put together a good response to this week's discussion question. You stated that after the patient went through the hospital rehab center they would then transition to a nursing home in your area. The patient in this case study was just beginning and ready to travel the country and enjoy retirement. So, a nursing home does not really fit into this patients plans. In my area we have programs called home health that allow the patient to get therapy in their own home (National Institutes of Health, 2014). In home therapy allows the patient to be with his wife and perform everyday tasks in a comfortable surrounding witch often allows the patient to recover in a quicker time so they can move on with their life (NIH, 2014). Does your area offer
The need for affordable assisted living is significant and largely unmet. Less than half of seniors in the U.S. can afford to live in high-cost assisted living communities. This leaves the majority neglected, living at risk at home or prematurely entering a nursing facility. The Ashford at Sturbridge, Wallick’s third affordable and fifth assisted living community, will serve as a cost-effective option for these seniors.

The Topic of my research paper is How to Start Your Own Assisted Living Business. I choose this topic because I have some experience in the health care field. I am a certified Medical Assistant and I wanted to take my education to the next level. The Health care job market is on high demand and is one of today’s most dynamic fields with a wide range of opportunities. I came to realize that the older you get in this country options for housing, health and personal care services become limited.
