The asteroid belt is a huge orbit of asteroids. Its located between mars and jupiter. Most of our solar systems asteroids are in the asteroid belt, but some escaped or got knocked out. Asteroids come in all different shapes and sizes, most are the size of a pebble. Ceres, Vesta, Pallas, and Hygiea are the four biggest asteroids. Ceres is actually considered a dwarf planet. Some people think that if you combine all the asteroids it would create a small, rocky, planet, but astronomers say it would make a planet smaller then earths moon. Suprizingly the asteroids are pretty far apart. If you stood on a asteroid then you would barely be able to see any other asteroids.
Astronomers have identified plenty of objects that were circulating the sun farther away from Neptune since the year 1992. According to research, there are more than 70,000 of these small objects named as Trans-Neptunians, which had a diameter that was larger than 100 km. Also, these objects extended from Neptune’s orbit from 30 astronomical units (AU) to 50 astronomical units. There is a thick band in which these Trans-Neptunians were restricted in and this ring was named as the Kuiper Belt. One may ponder what is the significance of the Kuiper Belt? Astronomers believe that the objects within the Kuiper Belt may be the ancient remains from the early stages of development of the solar system.
There were five massive discoveries that the rover Curiosity made. In August 200 the rover landed on Mars and been exploring the red planet since, but the robot has racked up quite a string of accomplishments while been on the red planet. For examples, when the rover first touched down on the red planet, it had a dramatic “seven minutes terror” when it touched down. This showed a successfully demonstrated a new technique that would help land the large payload of deliveries with unprecedented precision and successfully helping to pave a way for human outposts on the Red Planet. The rover was launched in order to determine whether the Gale Crater landing site has ever been able to support microbial life, the car sized rover successfully answered that question within seven months into the 2
Exoplanets are interesting to us for a number of reasons. By locating and observing them, we are able to gather a variety of useful data that tells us details about the planet, and then compare and contrast them to other exoplanets, as well as our own planet Earth. These comparisons are our attempt at better understanding the formation history of rocky planets such as the one we live on today, and furthermore understand the future of rocky planets based on their internal composition and proximity to their host stars.
"I believe that this nation should commit itself to achieving the goal, before this decade is out, of landing a man on the Moon and returning him safely to the Earth. No single space project...will be more exciting, or more impressive to mankind, or more important...and none will be so difficult or expensive to accomplish” -John F. Kennedy, May 25, 1961
I chose the constellation, Orion. It is one of my favorites, because ever since I was little, I was able to find it, and it was cool to me. The constellation depicts a man, holding his shield in front of hi, and sword overhead. It signifies a hunter, attack his prey, especially since he follows other celestial animals, like Lepus, a rabbit, and Taurus, a bull.
A comet in the Kuiper Belt would be affected by the presence of the planets in the solar system, not only the Sun. While the Sun has a huge mass, it is more massive than any of the planets in the solar system, it is far enough away from objects within the Kuiper Belt that its affect is comparable to the planets which lay closer. Since all planets within the solar system have significant gravitational fields (particularly the gas planets), its affect on a comet orbiting the Sun may change the shape of the comet's orbit into elliptical or other shaped paths.
Apollo asteroids are small celestial objects in comparison with other planets but are large enough to cause significant damage to earth and organisms living in its environment. Present 30 known asteroids are with diameters ranging from 0.2-8km. Orbital perturbations by the planets might cause asteroids to collide with earth. The probability of an asteroid colliding with the earth is well defined and certainly non-zero. Earth and the asteroid might meet the intersection point where the asteroid would be able to strike our planet. An impact from such asteroid would create an enormous crater being 20 times the size of the celestial body itself. After impacting the earth's lithosphere it would eject the mass from the crater about 100 times the
Companies such as Space Exploration Technologies offer NASA a cheaper, and overall better to reach Earth orbit and interplanetary space than any projects currently in development by NASA. When Elon Musk founded Space X, he wanted to radically change how rocket launches worked. He had the idea to recover the first stage of rockets, and then reuse them. He believed that this would allow him to offer launches at a considerably reduced cost when compared to non-reusable rockets. As it turns out, Musk was right. The current Falcon 9 version costs at lowest 49 million dollars to launch, a large decrease over the average NASA launch cost of 200 million dollars. (Falcon 9) The main reason that SpaceX is able to offer these low costs is due to their
There is a great amount of variation between the Terrestrial planets. These planets differ in size, atmosphere, and temperature. The temperatures vary greatly in the Terrestrial planets. Average temperatures range from 900° F on Venus to -50° F on Mars, which happens to have the coldest temperatures out of all the Terrestrial planets. These colder temperatures are a result of differences in distance, atmosphere, and magnetic field.
The presence of media bias is an undeniable fact. I believe an objective news media outlet is basically nonexistent and that bias is unavoidable in society today. It’s natural for a writer or reporter’s point-of-view to be slightly evident in their work, but the true problem occurs when much of the reporters, anchors, writers, editors, and producers are undoubtedly of the same political opinion, with little to no diversity of opinion represented. Because of that reason, the media can deny their bias and do not have to make any effort to balance their view with any other opposing viewpoints. Reporters are intended to simply report the news. However, their personal opinions or the agendas of the network are reported as fact. Often, the position of major media outlets is extremely liberal, and they are known to use deliberate deceptive tactics, or to bluntly state their liberal opinions as fact.
What do you think we would do if someone from anther planet landed in the U.S and claimed it as his territory because he had discovered it? How would you feel about this?
When addressing the concern of an asteroid impacting the Earth, it should be noted that the probability of a continent-destroying asteroid is slim to none in the near future. It should also be addressed that approximately ten asteroids enter Earth's atmosphere per year, each being about the size of a fridge, but are burned up quickly and would not be big enough to heavily crater or harm anything on the surface. In the past 1000 years, there also have been no record of a human dying due to meteorite collisions. Though collisions are seemingly rare, it is still important for astronomers to observe any celestial objects moving towards Earth that may be potentially dangerous. For example, Apophis is an asteroid traveling a path towards Earth. The asteroid is large enough to wreck the surface of Earth, but because of the observations made by astronomers, it is highly likely that a mission can be conducted to be deflected
From the 1990s, astronomers identified a region of the Solar System called the Kuiper Belt. Since its discovery, astronomers have identified thousands of Kuiper Belt Objects (KBOs) within this region, and estimate it to contain at least 70,000 KBOs- all with the same composition as Pluto.
1. Why did most of the early PDA companies fail, even if they had innovative and sophisticated product design?
Gender inequality plays a role in everyday life, even in children toys. Going to the toy store I observed how gender differences play a role in Toy R Us. I argue that gender difference plays a role big role in toys by the interactions and society making people believe this is how it should be.
