Humans have always sought to explain how things around them work. Ancient tales attempted to do this by creating stories about mythical beings. In Ancient Greece, people came up with stories of gods and goddesses, who embodied both the ideals and the evils of society at the time. They each specialized in certain aspects, such as leadership, war, and wisdom. Athena is one of the most important goddesses of the time, and would be great inspiration for a modern superhero, as she encompasses many important values in the world today, with her courage, resourcefulness, and intelligence. Athena is mainly the goddess of wisdom and war. She is known for her ability to approach warfare strategically so that peace is kept as often as possible. She uses her wisdom to persuade others to come to an agreement rather than rage war. She gives courage to heroes and has assisted many on their quests. She is also able to invent useful tools for people to use, believes in justice for all, …show more content…
She possesses the superpower of being able to convince anyone of anything with her words. She uses her powers for good, always trying to better the world in the actions she takes. Wordrior possesses Athena’s intelligence by using her words to settle arguments rather than violence. She opts for wise solutions to problems that would harm the fewest people, and weighs the outcomes of her actions before performing them. Wordrior is also just as courageous as Athena. She will tackle any issue that she believes is unjust relentlessly, not backing down until significant improvement is shown. Wordrior has Athena’s resourcefulness as well, as she takes any problem she is faced with and creates a solution for it based on her observations and knowledge. Wordrior uses the power she is given to try to eradicate any societal matters that are in need of change peacefully, just as Athena used her powers to try to keep peace and solve
and she is very famous for her different actions. Although Athena is best known for being the goddess of wisdom, she is also known for her act of heroism and myth influence on the modern day world. Even before she was born, Athena has been a powerful Goddess. When her mom, Metis was pregnant with Zeus's child, Zeus became very scared of his unborn child. He was told by an Oracle that if she were to be a boy, that "the boy would overthrow his father when he grew up"("Athena" Wickersham, n.p.), just like he had done to his father.
You can’t really be more ruthless, intelligent or cunning then Athena that should be impossible for any mortal,
Eh, I like Athena but she's not that damn ruthless, intelligent, or cunning because otherwise she wouldn't have gotten caught. Instead she would've killed whoever snatched her away - unless it was a god who snatched her up which would instead turn into WWIII or at least it should - and we would've moved none the wiser to what had transpired. I know she's not invincible
Athena, the goddess of wisdom, plays an important role throughout Homer’s The Odyssey. Her dominate role in the epic is to offer challenge and protection to both Odysseus and Telemachus. The goddess becomes their sole protector, and she is hardly ever far away from either one of the characters. Throughout the epic, Athena provides Telemachus with confidence and knowledge he needs on his journey. She also helps Odysseus by giving him advice and guidance on his travels home. Athena helps Odysseus and Telemachus in their growth as
Athena was fierce and brave in battle. She was Zeus’ favorite child. She was not born of a mother rather sprang full grown and clad in armour from Zeus’ forehead. She was the goddess of reason, arts, literature, and intelligent activity.
My favorite greek deity is the goddess Athena, also known as Athena. Five interesting facts about her are: No mother gave birth to her, she was Zeus’ favorite child, she is the patron of arts and crafts, she is one of the three virgin goddesses and the city Athens, in Greece was named after her. Athena is widely known for her special power and skill and strategic warfare and she is also widely known for her wisdom. She is a sublime goddess because she is also known as the goddess of the city and is regarded as the protector of civil life. Athena’s symbols are owls and olive trees, the tree is her general symbol but because the owl is her sacred animal it is also regarded as a symbol of Athena. According to the Greeks, Athena was important to
Athena was the Greek Goddess of many ideas, but she was famous mostly for her superior wisdom, her cunning skills in times of war, and her implausible talent for household tasks, such as weaving and pottery. She was celebrated more than any other God in ancient mythology, was the supposed inventor of countless innovations, and her figure gave reason for Greek woman to gain rights long before others of their time. The goddess of war, the guardian of Athens, and the defender of Heroes; Athena’s impact on the lives of Ancient Greeks is outstanding.
Athena’s physical appearance contradicts that of Thoth, but is comparable to that of Enki. Athena’s femininity distinguish her from the other gods of wisdom. She, like the other Greek gods, has the body and appearance of a human being, but her beauty outshadowed those of the humans. Enki had wings and a long beard, but otherwise has a human figure.
Pallas Athena and Wonder Woman have shown what their abilities truly are. “It is a relief to watch a woman fight back” (Lepore Web). They can do anything to defend themselves and others. Even though they had this skill they wouldn’t take advantage of it, they took no pleasure from battling. “Athena also has a great set of associations with heroes and heroines than other deity” (Deacy Web). This conveys that she connects to heroes because she was the Greek Virgin Goddess of reason; she was prepared to help anyone in desperate times. Both were blessed with abilities that opened ignorant minds about women having the capacity to fight for injustice.
This constant direction and saving help gives her a frequency of appearance in The Odyssey, making her a character at the forefront of the story. Also, it is her help that progresses the story. She is the one that plans for Odysseus’ attack on the suitors, and she often gives the people he encounters thoughts to help him along. She gives strength to Nausicaa, “Only Alcinous’ daughter held fast, for Athena planted courage within her heart…”(172), and plants in Penelope’s head the idea for the contest, “The goddess Athena with her blazing eyes inspired Penelope…”(424), among many other occasions.
In Greco-Roman Culture, humans imagine the deities of mythology to be and act certain ways, due to the needs they must fill. People invented certain deities for reasons that align with what they needed from them. To examine how a deity has a certain purpose, one must first examine what they are like. Athena and Ares are examples of deities invented for very specific purposes. One must first look at Athena and Ares’ similarities and differences in relation to their characteristics, their sexuality and physical appearances, as well as their different powers and how they are worshipped, to discover why they were created.
Athena is the ancient Grecian Goddess of wisdom, law, courage, the arts and strength (among many others) in the religion and mythology of the ancient Greeks. She is the patron god of the magnificent city of Athens. Her Roman mythical equivalent is known as Minerva. As Athena is revealed to be the special patron of Odysseus, she is a crucial character in the classic epic poem The Odyssey, most commonly attributed to Homer. As the centuries have passed from the origins of the Odyssey and the Greek Myths at large, so have the presentations of the Gods.
Varied beliefs, rituals, and mythology composed the ancient Greek religion which worshipped gods and goddesses among which was Athena (Roman counterpart is Minerva), the goddess of wisdom, warfare, and handicraft. She is the patron saint of the city of Athens, and various inventions in art and literature were attributed to her. (List of Greek Mythological Figures, Wikipedia). Athena Parthenos (Athena the Virgin) gave rise to the Parthenon which means house of the Parthenos or the temple that housed the statue of Athena.
If I could pick one god, goddess, hero or other character that I would like to be, I would pick Athena. Athena is the daughter of Zeus alone. It is said that she sprung full grown and fully clothed in armor, from his head. In the Iliad Athena is depicted as a “ruthless battle-goddess”. Athena is also shown as only being warlike to defend and protect from outside enemies. I admire Athena’s capability of defending and fighting. I am very in to martial arts so her fighting ability attracts me. I am attracted to her wisdom, reason, and purity. Athena is depicted as having a lot of fairness and compassion. I admire this because I always wish I had more of these traits like compassion and empathy. Although Athena is referred to as the battle goddess,
1) traces back to the Greek culture of the mythological goddess Athena. Athena was the goddess of wisdom and military victory, which made her one of the most well know goddesses throughout time . She was the most ruthless goddess on Olympus and was often depicted wearing armor, yet when she was not wearing such garbs, she was beautiful and graceful. Many of the artworks that contain Athena portrayed her as standing tall with wisdom radiating about her. Athena was also envisioned to be the protector of various cities, which gave her the title Goddess of the City.
Athena’s power comes to display in the poem, “O,” by Aracelis Girmay. In the poem, Girmay writes about Odysseus and his encounter with the Sirens. Girmay writes,
