In a world today where watching professional sports is part of many people's daily lives, some stop to question are athletes paid too much. Professional athletes don’t have this career for life like most Americans with their professions of choice. Far too often many people believe that professional athletes are overpaid but with the injuries and illnesses they are prone to I think they are the ones paying the price. Some reasons why people think athletes are paid too much include that they get to do what they enjoy while making millions, while some people are stuck doing jobs that they don’t enjoy just to be able to put food on the table. Americans believe that they should be paid less than other jobs like the military or doctors jobs that actually, benefit people. A teacher who is able to change the lives of many is still only paid a fraction of what athletes receive. Some understand professional athletes may try to change the lives of kids but their actions sometimes aren't the brightest. Now kids are taking a knee during the national anthem because their favorite professional athlete does. I would have to disagree with all of it. Athletes are one of the top talented when it comes to the human race. I understand they make a lot doing what they love but they also give up a lot at the same time. I myself as a student athlete understand the time and dedication needed to put into a sport. Athletes can train for 40+ hours a week which include practice and weight training,
Yes, Athletes get paid too much money. Accordingly to the article, from LeBron James making 71 million dollars and the President does not make as much money as LeBron James. Nurses, and other people who save lives do not make as much money as LeBron James.
Athletes deserve the money they receive because of their hard work, dedication, and commitment to their passion. They wouldn 't be where they 're at just sitting on the couch all day long doing nothing. They put a lot of time and effort into their futures. Most people don 't even realize the sacrifices that a pro
Do you think professional athletes are overpaid? You might think they earn more than what they are worth for playing half a year, but athletes have many things which contribute to their salary. Some of these things include their earnings from endorsements, ticket sales, performance, merchandise, their social contributions, and TV ratings. Although there are many factors that contribute to their salary, professional athletes may be overpaid because as a society, we contribute to their success. So, in the end, part of the athlete’s salary comes from the people who support the sports in the first place. These are just some of the reasons why athletes are paid so much money.
There are millions of people who save lives while a handful who are athletes. There are other dangerous jobs that do not get as much money as athletes. In the text it states,” Nurses who dedicate their lives to the care of others didn’t get that much. Firefighters who pull little kids out of burning buildings didn’t get that much.” As one can see athletes get paid too much compared to an average family. Doctors, who work so hard to take care of little children and adults, don’t get as much money either.Athletes should not get paid too much as there are other dangerous jobs that don’t get as much money as athletes.
Athletes are paid higher than most people, whether they are deserved of it or not. Athletes are paid much higher than most people. These athletes make outrageous money compared to our everyday working human being. For example, Kobe Bryant recently earned $53 million in one year. As a public school teacher, I'd have to work for 964 years to match that income (Kim and Carew 1). This evidence shows that the average athlete even if they are not making the most in their league, they still make much more than average people. Therefore, with high salaries comes high responsibilities and some of these athletes don’t use their money responsibly. Many athletes go broke just years after their career is over. Three fourths of NFL players lose most of their
Imagine you are a teacher. You show up to work every day to a long day of teaching, helping students, and prepping for the next day. You get home from work and have more grading and preparing to complete to be ready for the next day. After working for hours upon hours every day for a pay lower than the average US worker’s income, you turn on the TV, only to hear about the millions of dollars someone is making over a time they may not even be playing or working at all. Whether pro athletes are being given too much money has been a hot topic for the past few decades, ever since athlete salaries have been skyrocketing. Even the incomes of physicians, the highest average paying job in the country comes nowhere close to that of an athlete at the highest level. Pro athletes work very little, are paid much more for their work load, and aren’t able to spend their money effectively after sports.
First, athletes have hard jobs. “Athletes often work irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.” (page 1.) So, the athletes have to go out of their way to work for the people and to earn money for their families. “They often work outside, so they may be exposed to all weather conditions.” (page 1.) The athletes have to stay fit and keep their bodies at a good temperature so they can do their job and, to do difficult tasks for our enjoyment. Division I intercollegiate athletics is no easy feat. Whether it is basketball, softball, baseball, soccer, or gymnastics, athletes devotion and sacrifice is innumerable. Athletes spend countless hours throughout the year training and performing in competition. According to the NCAA bylaw 17.1, athletes can only spend 20 hours a week with a maximum of 4 hours a day on athletically related activities. This rule excludes pre-season and post-season training which account for the other 50% of the year. Although most athletes get enjoyment out of simply playing, some athletes feel they should be paid for their skill. There is an arising controversy regarding athletes not being paid for the amount of commitment they put into their sport. While
Why are athletes so overpaid? They do not need all this money, yet every year they get paid millions of dollars. A sports athlete is one of the highest paying jobs in the world, and according to Business Insider, an average basketball player gets paid 4.6 million dollars annually. Professional athletes, especially NBA players are criticized harshly of their high salaries because many people feel they don’t deserve it for what they do. They feel NBA players aren’t contributing anything valuable to society. Many people can’t stand that NBA players are paid millions when teachers, doctors, lawyers, or other professions are making thousands. People feel that NBA players do nothing more than playing a ball game. There is a lot that they do that people are unaware of so a lot of people just assume all they are ball players. People need to understand that NBA players are paid millions for a reason, and they are deserving of it. They have to go through a lot physically and mentally.
