1. The Atkins diet is a well-known low carb diet created by cardiologist, Dr. Atkins. The goal is to lose weight and keep it off by limiting carbohydrates and sugar intake so the body uses fat as a fuel source instead. The Atkins diet is not recommended for people with high blood pressure or high cholesterol because it focuses on protein and animal fats. Processed foods, whole grains, and dairy are not allowed. There are four phases to the diet with a two week induction, introducing more foods in phase two, reaching your goal weight in phase three, and maintaining it for however long needed in phase four.
