Another puzzling technology that proves the superior skill of the Atlanteans was the “orichalcum” that Plato mentions as covering the walls of Atlantis (Santos). Orichalcum means to brass or use an alloy copper and zinc that is like gold. They probably got it from Atlantis, where else? (Santos). According to Plato’s account in Timaeus, the ocean where Atlantis used to be was nearly impassable by boat due to mud and debris from the island (Hodge).
Archaeologists noticed that these items did not come from a central location, but came from several specific locations. By analyzing the artifacts, archaeologists are able to determine which cultures came into contact and traded with each other. Through isotope analysis, it was determined that the copper ingots were from the island of Cyprus. The pottery was similar to those found throughout Canaan. Also in the wreck, there were logs of blackwood which grew in primarily Africa. There were also glass ingots that were the same as glass found in Egypt and Mycenaean Greece. In addition, there was ivory from elephants and hippopotamus primarily from Syria. Since all of these items were on one trading vessel, archaeologists were able to determine that there was “a vast trade network was well established among various racial and linguistic groups centered on the Mediterranean, from subtropical Africa and the Near East to northern Europe” (Bass 699). Therefore, underwater archaeology shows that there was multicultural trade during the Late Bronze Age. The various civilizations along the Mediterranean coast worked together in a cooperative fashion and relied on each other in order to thrive during the Late Bronze Age. In addition, trade was not localized but widespread throughout the Mediterranean.
Pseudo-history, pseudo-science, and pseudo-archaeology have delivered ‘proof’ of numerous sites where Atlantis, the lost city of which Plato wrote, could have thrived and then suffered total destruction
They were also able to sail on the water and trade with other places. History: 4.1, 4.1.1, 4.1.2, 4.2, 4.2.1, 4.2.2, 4.2.3, 4.3, 4.3.1, 4.3.2, 4.4, 4.4.1. I was able to meet these standards by making a timeline (as you can see on slide 21). I also read a paragraph on how the ancient Romans created the clepsydra.
Atlantis was described to be a large island, which once existed on the Atlantic Ocean but in the form of an allegory that was mentioned by Plato in his works of Timaeus and Critias. The Atlantis in both of Plato’s works was presented as an antagonist city possessing of great naval power that encircles the Ancient City of Athens, a complete pseudo – historic embodiment of Plato’s desired ideal state in the works of Plato’s republic. Somewhere in the story of Plato’s works, it was told that the city of Athens was successful in repelling an attack set by Atlantis City, and at the epilogue of the story, Atlantis city drowns and forever submerges under the depths of Atlantic Ocean, as its loss on their favour from the Gods. The story of Atlantis city/island was told in many other versions around the globe, but sadly it does not exist in the real world we live in, even though we’ve modernized and advanced ourselves through the change of time and history. Conversely, there were news and discoveries about an evidence in the form of an archaeological land and underwater sites in various locations in different countries, but one unique location was chosen as that evidence, which proves the past
•The Romans, first devoted to agriculture and military actions, went on to conquer the Greeks.
In 1966, a milestone in Law Enforcement interrogation procedures was established through the case of Miranda vs Arizona. In the case of Orozco vs Texas, just a couple years later in 1969, the guidelines established by Miranda vs Arizona changed the ruling of Reyes Arias Orozco who self-incriminated himself without being read his Fifth Amendment rights while being interrogated in his home. Orozco vs Texas effected interrogation procedures due to Orozco being interrogated inappropriately in his own bed, early in the morning, and without being aware to his rights which clearly states within the Self-Incrimination Clause that, “The Fifth Amendment 's right against self-incrimination permits an individual to refuse to disclose information that
Plato said the city was protected by the god Poseidon, the god of the seas and other waters, who made his son Atlas king of the island, who lived in the finest structure on the island, the Temple of Poseidon (“Atlantis”). Atlantis culture was based in learning, which made them advance in engineering and science, making more use of the natural resources they had access to. They had races to entertain the people and very advanced irrigation system that provided food for
people think Atlantis is just another city in which Plato visited and had more advanced
However, after years of generations of ruling Atlantis’s rulers started to create tension with their fellow countries. “They conquered parts of North Africa and Europe, they were on their way to attack Egypt and Athens.” Shortly after the Athenians conquered parts of North Africa and Europe, all hell struck in the city of Atlantis. “It was protected by the god Poseidon, who made his son Atlas king and namesake of the island and the ocean that surrounded it. As the Atlanteans grew powerful, their ethics declined.”
Georgia also start interrogating Clementine. Which later Clementine’s Mother calls Georgia. Naomi wanted to meet up with Georgia, which she comes over the next day. Georgia cannot get over who’s baby that is. She is worried that is Ben’s child.
One of the best training programs to implement into the police department is the Reid interrogation techniques. Interrogation and interviewing techniques became popular in 1947 by John E. Reid and Associates. Joseph P. Buckley stated that “The Reid Technique of Interviewing and Interrogation is now the most widely used approach to question subjects in the world (Buckley P. J., 2000).” There three- parts to the Reid process for solving a crime. The first stage that should be taking is to collect and analyze relative information from the crime scene thing that offers insight to the possible suspect and determine the direction an investigation should take. The second stage of the process interviewing people of interest using Behavior Analysis Interview (BAI) (Buckley P. J., 2000). The Behavior Analysis Interview is a non-accusatory process that allows detectives to interview a suspect using a question and answer procedure to provoke a suspect to show non- verbal truthfulness or deception. The third stage, if the offender has not admitted to the crime an accusatory interrogation is administered (Leave no marks, 2007). The Reid interrogation technique is believed to be a fail proof technique ,however, there are some reservations against using this technique on juvenile offenders (Constitutional Law(n.d). Implementing the Reid technique into the police departments learning curriculum will truly
Many scholars and philosophers had began to discover the longtime mysteries of the world. The Greeks had a system of writing and were very well educated. They were eventually taken over by King Philip V of Macedonia. He made and alliance with Greece and gave them military aid in order for control of their government and people. King Philip dreamed to make Macedonia a world power and intended on starting in the Mediterranean. Rome had also set these same goals for their future and there was nothing stopping them. One of Philip’s allies, Hanibel, went against him and fought him for Macedonia. The Macedonians allied with the Carthagenians and the Romans with the Aetolian League. By 168 B.C. Rome had Macedonia in their command. After this, the Archaen League in Greece sought freedom after the long rule of Macedonia. They tried to fight against the mighty army of the Romans, but this only resulted int he destruction of the city, Corinth. In 146 B.C. the Romans had abolished all leagues in Greece, and most trade was stopped in the big port cities. Rome would be over this land for sixty years to come. Meanwhile, the Romans realized the value of such things like gold. They soon found out that deposits of gold and other minerals were in the uncultivated land of Thrace. The people of Thrace were for the most part, barbaric, warlike, and unorganized. The Romans did not have as many troubles obtaining this land, considering the people
The Minoans were a civilization who flourished from 3000 BCE until 1100 BCE on the island of Crete, were greatly influenced by the Phoenicians, Egyptians, Syrians and the Anatolians (Britannica Encyclopedia). This civilization made major contributions to Western European development in the areas of language, architecture and art. It was the famous archaeologist Sir Arthur Evans who made the astounding discoveries at Knossos in the early 1900’s that introduced to the world the fascinating and wonderful sophistication of these early Greeks (Britannica Encyclopedia). The history of the island has been molded by its proximity to the Aegean Sea. Its geographical location gave it control over the sea and the lucrative trade routes. The Minoans traded with Egypt, the Levant, the Aegean, and beyond to Italy, and Sicily.
Atlantis is known to most people as a legend or myth written by the Greek poet Plato, but is it possible that this lost continent really existed? Is it all legend or could there be some fact to it? Contrary to common belief there have been numerous geological and historical findings that actually give proof to the existence of this lost city. In the book Imagining Atlantis it tells us the story written by Plato. "According to ancient Egyptian temple records the Athenians fought an aggressive war against the rulers of Atlantis some nine thousand years earlier
