The attachment theory is a theory by Bowlby that refers to the joint mutual relationship that babies experience and develop with their primary caregiver (Bowlby, 1982). This theory is not supported by research in various sceneries. However, even though the attachment theory began as an initiative, the clinical application to the daily clinical understanding of adult mental health complications has penned red behind the current available research. I believe that the theory can give valuable insight into both the developing nature of recognized psychiatric disorders as well as in the development of the therapeutic relationship in adults. The attachment theory is a theory proposed by John Bowlby. The theory basically states that infants need to be attached to someone in order to have successful relationships as they grow older. Bowlby says, “Attachment is a deep and enduring emotional bond that connects one person to another across time and space”
Attachment measure how much trust the child has to their parents or caregivers and if they don’t have any attachment to them it can affect their overall personality they can have low self esteem or it can also afrect their academic because they don’t know if theres somebody who they can turn to if they face adversity.

The attachment theory links into practice because the whole concept of it is forming an attachment, this theory therefore links into practice because for example if a child has a strong bond/attachment such as recognising and being able to share problems and concerns then this gives children the confidence and support and they can acknowledge that and practitioners can meet their needs e.g. if a child forms an attachment with their caregiver then the care giver will become aware of their needs, their likes and dislikes and can put certain interventions into place, so just say a child only communicates with their caregiver and no one else then the caregiver will become aware of that and may do certain things one by one in order for them to communicate
Attachment is an emotional bond that is created between one person to another across a life span. Attachment can be a connection between two individuals, but it is a bond that involves a regular contact with that person and also expressed distress when separated from that person. Also, attachment can play an important role during childhood, adolescent and romantic relationships. Attachment tends to be enduring and meaningful because it can last for a long time between people. However, being attached can motivate children to stay close to people that they love. Attachment can also help people build emotional bond between each others, that can have a secure base so that people can safely explore their environment. Although studies have shown that children who are securely attached can also develop an increase of independence and confidence. Meanwhile, children who are not securely attached can develop risks such as poor internal working models in life.

The theory from chapter 1 that I chose was attachment theory. Attachment theory, coined by John Bowlby, is a concept in developmental psychology that concerns the importance of "attachment" in regards to personal development. It states that the ability for an individual to form an emotional and physical "attachment" to another person gives a sense of stability and the means necessary to take risks, branch out, and grow and develop as a personality. One of Bowlby’s main points in attachment theory is “separation anxiety is experienced when attachment behaviour is activated and cannot be terminated unless reunion is restored” (Bowlby 1969). “They also, have trouble maintaining a boundary between someone else’s distress and their own” (Weinfield, Sroufe, 1999) and they do everything possible to prevent separation. Bowlby has four assumptions: “infants and young children develop emotional ties with individuals early in life, the way a child is treated early in life has a major contributing factor to their future relationships and the way their personality is formed, attachment behaviour can form an 'internal working model ' which guide the child 's thoughts, feelings and expectations as a result of the reactions of others towards their behaviour, it is difficult to alter attachment behavior but it is not impossible” (Green 2003). Attachment theory emphasizes the importance of parent’s capability to offer a secure base for their children to discover the world ( Kottler & Shepard 2015). My own attachment style is a secure attachment style; secure attachment style refers to the idea that infants who couldn’t count on their mother being consistently available would cry when their mother left their sight but quickly calm down when their mother came back and pick them up ( Kottler & Shepard 2015).
