Extra Credit (Attend a Public Hearing) On November the 14th I attended a City Council meeting with my father. It took place at the Council Chambers, which is City Hall. The city council includes the people who represent the eight districts, Peter Svarzbein which represents district one, Alexsandra Annello which represents district two, Cassandra Hernandez representing district three, Sam Morgan representing district four , Michiel Noe who represents district five, Claudia Perez who represents district six, Henry Rivera who takes responsibility for

Adrian Riley Moody was nominated to named the appointee for the board for Park and Recreation. By taking our landscape and expanding the quality of El Paso will attract more and it was main goal they talked about. They discussed safety in the department of fire in behalf of Mario D’Agostino the fire chief. They rejected bids for the defibrillators for not working and not responding. They gave the El Paso zoo a fairly large fund to help pay so that they can pay for the animals food and necessities. It was about 393,000 in total funding for the zoo but it is supposed to last for a few years. They discussed a large fund given to repair and maintenance for the city. Which is named Eagle Janitorial service, the money is meant to last up for five years. The total amount of the fund was about one million and fifty nine thousand dollars, this including all of the districts. Multiple funds were discussed for example the department of Parks and Recreation, they were funded for a total of four hundred thousand and four dollars, given to Three D's Landscaping & Ground. Another fund was given in the category of parks and recreation to Abescape Landscaping 765,000 thousand dollars and lastly in this category another fund was given to MG Evergreen LLC of a total amount of 1,226,000 dollar for a total of 2-3 years. I think they gave so much money t the department of parks and recreation because it is very
There are somewhat restrictions on the kinds of advice be given? On that note, should the mayor on the political consequences be personal if he assumes leadership of the income tax campaign? Additionally, it may be the time they were starting to arrive a decision to raise probably taxes or cut services more drastically.
The voting was conducted by “yay or nay” method. It was a simple but effective method because there weren’t many people so you could hear the disagreement and or agreement. About seven out of the eleven people voted agreeing on the subject of having KaBoom and Warner Music group Inc. designing, planning and building a playground feature at York Field. The people who disagreed argued that why should York Field park need to be improved if its already a nice park, let’s improve a park that isn’t as good. The Whittier parks and rec leader came out to speak, he mentions that these are donations, we can’t force anyone to donate to a park they don’t want to. Robert Dahl’s theory was correct because if the citizens didn’t participate then it’s not a democracy. Even if the citizens didn’t get there way today if they don’t speck up then they’ll get taken
Transparency in leadership practices is important due to the increase in corruption amongst governmental official. An incident in which recently took place with Mayor Bowser includes her new plans to shut down a previous homeless shelter at DC General within a certain timeline. Individuals would then transfer to new housing in which Mayor Bowser found private property in which the city would pay for this transitional housing from its budget. Council members became suspicious when Mayor Bowser would not discuss how the property and zoning permits were acquired, but the private owners of the property were known as large contributors to her campaign. These types of practices cause suspicion and speculation of leaders, especially in a city which deems such a corrupt history from Mayor Barry and Mayor Fenty. According to Arzumanyan, leadership requires “publicity and openness of the leader and his or her team” (Arzumanyan, 2016). Within transparency and openness of the political agenda of members of the DC Counsel, there will be a regained sense of trust amongst citizens and officials.
The 150 residents of Babcock Place are senior citizens who have gone to the city council to request that a crosswalk of Constitution Avenue. Constitution Avenue is a four lane thoroughfare that leads to the downtown district. The council asked the city planning department to send out an engineer to determine if there was truly a need for a crosswalk. The engineer determined that there was no need for a crosswalk, which upset the residents of Babcock Place along with the Neighborhood Association that supported the residents. The council members were left to determine what measures should be taken next, if any. This paper will look at how the residents of Babcock Place and the city planning department can have influence over the city council’s decision. Also, the paper will address how a public manager’s morals and values can have a direct influence over their decision making process.
Others may argue the city council was trying to help the city out and boost their economy with the money they would save. This is true; officials were trying to better the city by buying their water from the City of Detroit. Supporters of the plan believed that the future plan
The record shows that the Mayor did not order the removal of Mr. Roberts from the Council Chamber. The former City Manager did. The Mayor probably wishes she had responded more quickly to that action..
The first question that I would ask a Deaf person would be: “Do you limit yourself to certain facilities, restaurants, or stores because it is harder to communicate otherwise?” I would ask this question because I personally develop an anxiety around people when I feel like I cannot communicate efficiently with them. Since I am hearing and I still have a problem, I can imagine that it might be harder being Deaf and having this issue. Since most of the Deaf population has other people in their culture in which they communicate and I have my close family and friends, I would imagine that they might choose to go places where their culture is recognized, or in my case where I already know someone.
The use of special districts to administer parks and recreation services originates from a successful experiment by New York City in SSSS. The city created a commission to depoliticize the provision of parks and recreation services, which led to the development of Central Park. Following this model of success, a number of states now have some form of park district that span a range of services, including open space protection, land conservation, environmental education, and leisure activities. Local governments increasingly offload parks and recreation responsibilities to special districts because they require large capital investments and they benefit from district boundaries drawn according to public use. The impact of tax limitations and pressure on general funds also encourages development of park districts. Flickinger and Murphy () provide insight from a park director in Illinois who believes special taxing status is essential because park and recreation departments tend “to take a back seat to streets, police, fire, utilities, and other ‘mandatory’ services when time came to set or cut budgets and hire qualified personnel” (1990, p. 153).Though parks and recreation are a common form of district, research evaluating its success is limited in both quantity and scope.
For instance, they've met with the Mayor's office "Economic Mobility Lab" - still figuring out what to focus on, but they may focus on
I think Santos response to the city council was the best approach he could take in the matter. He took responsibility for the problems that had been brewing, leading up to the revelation of the $2 million deficit. Santos was appointed to bring a solution to the problems that loomed at Permit and Inspection Services Department (PISD). More specifically, the “urgent service and operations problems laid out by the mayor during [Santos’] interview ...” (Brock, 2004a, p. 2).
With the help of Council members Carr and Crow, the Post has attributed a number of negatives to U City, including the functioning of our Council. There are 6 Council members in U City and 4 of them often, though not exclusively, vote the same way our mayor does. According to a speaker at last Monday's meeting, those four are controlled by the mayor. This is what Carr and Crow want people to believe. Does that sound reasonable? One is an attorney and the others are a business owner, an ophthalmologist, and a successful marketing and sales director.
The meeting was about the City of Commission of Deland on March six, at seven pm. First, starts discussing how people can address an agenda or an unattended issue that can be given to City Clerk at the proper time. Also, the meeting gives information on how later in the meeting they are going to explain a new resolution of the surplus of the house abandonment. Something very nice that they did at first is how they made a program called "Super Stars Students of the month" to reward kids for doing greats in school as a way trying to push them to become something important in the future, and not giving up their dreams. Not only had they rewarded the kids but also two employees who were great in services for a long time. As part of the introduction, they give the quarterly financial report prepared by Dan Stauffer, which basically shows that the City is doing well so far into each financial position.
This situation is complex in the fact that it involves many different parties including your staff member, Nancy’s administrative assistant, committee members, Al Johnson, Ellen Anderson, and yourself. Each person brings something important to the table and none should be discounted from the situation, including Ted. I would venture to take this a step further, due to the extent of which this situation has grown, to include the current mayor in the process as well. We should start with the administrative assistant who appeared to be public humiliated by Ted’s comment of “If only I were twenty years younger!”, and the staff member who stated “Please don’t make me go to a meeting with that jerk!”.(Harrison, D. pg. 2). Each of these staff members
The Boulder City Council along with the city manager is responsible for overseeing the department. There is also a Parks and Recreation Advisory Board (PRAB) that is made up of seven members that are appointed by the City Council. This board was created to offer advice to the City Council on the various park property and recreational facilities. Finally, the department has a director who guides and ensures that the mission and master plan is being followed. Since July 2014 Yvette Bowden has been the Boulder, Colorado Parks and Recreation Director. Her previous experience was as president and CEO of the Piedmont Park Conservancy (which was one of Atlanta’s largest urban parks). She was also a board member of the City Parks Alliance which is a national organization that’s main goal is to improve urban parks. Therefore, one of her personal passions is to make urban parks just as accessible to the Boulder citizens as the open spaces are. She also has a great appreciation for the sustainability of parks and she is equally concerned with finding just the right balance between the bigger public events such as the Ironman competitions and the various ways that the local community uses the parks and recreation facilities. Finally, the department is supported financially by various funds such as the general fund, the lottery fund, the recreation activity fund, the permanent parks and recreation fund, and the $.25 Sales Tax fund. This fund is often featured in ads with the
Becoming the manager of a business is, for some people, is an amazing opportunity. No matter how big or how small the respected business is, there is always a huge amount of responsibility that falls on to your shoulders at the end of everyday, no matter the outcome. In this case, not only are you a manager, you are a city manager in Tennessee. Despite the lucrative opportunity that has presented itself, the mayor has asked you to complete an unethical task. He has given you an envelope full of receipts from a trip that he recently took to attend an economic development conference. Included in the receipts are receipts from a four-day vacation that the mayo and his wife took at a resort near the conference city. It was clear that the mayor wanted the city to reimburse him for everything that was in that envelope. Now, as the newly appointed city manager, what do you do?
