I would like to attend the SEED Program because it is going to be a great opportunity to see the school and experience the Brandeis community first hand. The SEED Program is going to be shedding light on some very important topics that I find very interesting and have been involved with in the past few year. As a Latina attending a predominantly white school I know what it is like to bring awareness to topics such as diversity. I also know what it feels like to be criticized and mocked for being a “social justice warrior” and I would love to attend a program where these topics are brought up and taught instead of being mocked. At school I have worked alongside others in strive to create a community that can be inclusive and aware of all the
I became interested in the STEM camp because I believe this camp will benefit me an enormous deal in the future. Attending the camp will support my future academic goals. In college, I intend to specialize in science, math, and technology. The STEM camp will help develop my educational interests and provide a glimpse into what I can expect from studying the areas of math, science and technology and engineering. I know that my future career will involve knowledge in these subjects and I want to do everything possible to allow myself to be exposed to whatever educational opportunities that can help me develop these skills. I would also like to have an experience at UTRGV because it is one of my possible college choices at this
I would like to be a part of the Wheeler Magnet Program because it will be able to challenge my intelligence and allow me to view subjects from many different perspectives. I feel that students should be encouraged to look at things from many points of view and be more open minded. This will allow us to advance further in life by interactions and communications. I have always had a love for science and a want to pursue and obtain information that allows me to better understand the world and the events within it. A STEM program will let me participate and focus on the major subjects that affect my future, both in and outside of school.
Arguably the greatest contribution to the eventual downfall of the Roman Republic was the institution of Gaius Marius' popular, yet dangerous reforms, and his repeated usage of questionable political tactics to achieve his underlying personal goals. By undermining the power of the senate through illegal political conduct, and by introducing reforms that created the open potential for abuse of military power, Marius paved the way for future military monarchies, civil conflict and the eventual downfall and segregation of the Roman Republic.
Since fourth grade, I’ve been recognized as a GT student, which stands for gifted and talented. I’ve been selected to participate in the Congress of Future Science and Technology Leaders summer program and the National Youth Leadership Forum for National Security, Diplomacy, Intelligence, and Defense. My school district has selected me to attended SA-PREP (Prefreshman Engineering Program) for the past four summers. Each of those summers have been spent at San Antonio local colleges such as Northwest Vista College, Texas A&M San Antonio, St. Mary’s University, and University of Texas San Antonio (UTSA). PREP is a two-month summer seminar and is a STEM
I also would like to join as I have some experience in this that I can share with the other women, that experience comes from high school when I was in D.A.L.T( diversity awareness leadership training). I participated in D.A.L.T. all four years of high school. Also when I was homeless i was one of five white members at a traditionally all black church before it is what it is now. Now that church is about half and half it has an even mix of white and black and even has some other races that go there too now. Through this experience I hope to build my self-worth as I am helping other women. Also through this experience I hope that I continue to excel in my course
First of all, this program gives me an opportunity to meet other students from Japan. I think learning and living with people from different cultural, religious, and ethnic backgrounds can definitely be a very unique experience for students. And I would like to be one of those lucky students. Moreover, this program can definitely change my tiny world to bigger world. I think
I would love to attend Wake STEM Early College High School because I believe it will give me a head start on my learning after the high school level. Your program will improve my college experience and save thousands of dollars in college tuition by giving me an associates degree and high school diploma upon graduation. I am also exceedingly interested in a career in science or mathematics. I have always been focused on learning science and math because it is something I love to do and I can have a successful career in the future by using those skills. I understand that attending this prestigious school will require a certain level of maturity and willingness to work hard. As an 8th grader at West Lake Middle School, I am a member of the National
Adults and peers have described me as dependable, fair, honest, trustworthy, intelligent, empathetic, respectful, and friendly and I do my best to live by these characteristics. One of my main mottos is to treat others the way you want to be treated. I am by no means a perfect person and I try to accept help and criticism whenever it is offered in an effort to keep improving upon my character. I am a reliable student, sister, daughter, and friend. I believe I would learn a lot from being a member of this program because being surrounded by peers with similar moral and academic character would allow me to do even more to make my community a better place. This would be a perfect opportunity to benefit from any experiences this program has to offer me and make a positive impact on my school and
I would like to attend this year's Vet Camp because I do believe it will solidify my career in becoming a zoo vet. Attending the Vet Camp would let me see the North Carolina State University campus and the surrounding area. A third reason would be that it would let me get to know the career before even starting college. All three of these reasons I do believe are going to help in the near future in a variety of ways.
At first I thought that it was only a program that would tour colleges but the presentations given have explained it in much further detail and has drawn me in. I feel that this program will aid me in achieving my goals by strengthening my relationship with GOD, giving me the opportunity to learn from others - both peers and elders- about life and education and how to balance it all, showing me that there are more choices in colleges other than the major and predominantly white universities, and because it will allow for myself and others hands on experience with our desired careers. I do understand that will all these benefits that I also need to give back to the program and I will do so by ; completing all given assignments for both Campus Connection and school; staying out of any and all trouble; showing up for every event dressed appropriately; and by following all said and unsaid rules associated with the
My primary motivation to participate in GiGS arises from a desire to encourage and support students from underrepresented groups that are considering a graduate education and to help them perceive graduate school as an attainable goal. As a STEM graduate student of color, I am saliently aware of the many challenges facing people of color, particularly with access to people or mentors who can provide information and advice on preparing and applying for graduate school. Since neither of my parents ever attended graduate school, much of the process was new to both me and my family. “Simple” things such choosing which labs to work in during your undergraduate career, or knowing when or where to sign up for the GRE was challenging due to the lack
The characteristics of Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Jesse displays are inattention, memory and speech. Jesse is also demonstrating his desire for isolation from his friends. He prefers to be alone most of the time, which is out of character for Jesse.
I joined the African Student Association and enjoyed it. The students I met were from all over the world and were facing the same challenges I was. We all had unique stories and backgrounds, so the experience was enriching. The influence of the relationships I developed had a positive effect on my learning experience and social growth. As a result, I realized that attending a diverse school is important to me.
As a young black woman I have known that odds are stacked against me for most of my life, I have seen how my identity itself is a triple negative, but despite the obvious mathematical solution to a triple negative I am determined to turn it into a positive. And I believe that this summer program at Spelman can definitely help me do it. I have set myself up for succes in every way I can, including involving myself in as many leadership opportunities as possible and doing community service ever since I was in a kid. I was teaching karate two days a week in 8th grade in order to pay for my classes, chosen to be the keynote speaker at the beginning of the year convocation going in to my freshman year, first chair in my high school Wind Ensemble
“If you have your eyes on a BlackBerry for four seconds trying to text, you go the length of a football field, including the end zone, without looking at the road.”(Ray LaHood). Americans everywhere put their lives and others in danger because they have to send that text or post that selfie. Over the past few decades the popularity of cell phones has skyrocketed and is not slowing down anytime soon. With an increasing number of people commuting every day this is becoming a major problem in the United States. Last year over fifteen people died per day and over 448,000 people were injured due to distracted driving. Because of the extreme dangers cell phone use poses all use of a cell phone should be banned for all people while on the road.
