The book “To Kill A Mockingbird” had many characters with a variety of traits. Atticus was the good, Tom Robinson was the transitioning, and lastly Bob Ewell was the evil to this book. Atticus showed his respect towards others even if they were young. To Jem and Scout he talked to them as if they were his peers “I'm afraid our activities would be received with considerable disapprobation by the more learned authorities." He said this to Scout and the vocabulary he used with them were sophisticated out of respect. Now Tom Robinson being the transitional character he was in trial yet he still was a good man. Bob Ewell accused him of raping his daughter saying “I seen that black nigger yonder ruttin on my Mayella!” (231). but Tom never did such a thing and only helped he with …show more content…

This comes from chapter ten when Atticus was going to shoot the dog because it was was acting crazy. He said to Jem “I’d rather you shoot tin cans in the backyard, but I know you’ll go after birds. Shoot all the bluejays you want, if you can hit’em, but remember it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird.” (119). This is talking about how these birds don’t do anything but sing so they won’t attack you and you shouldn’t attack them, they are harmless. Another part was when Tom Robinson was on stand talking about his arm and how he was disabled in his right arm so he couldn’t be much harm to other. But good ol Bob Ewell tried accusing him for raping his daughter “Robinson, you’re pretty good at busting up chifarobes and kindling with one hand” (263). This implying he only has on hand able to use. Then Tom was getting moved somewhere else but tried to run and while doing that someone took shots at him. Robinson never did nothing but try to run so they should’ve tried to injure him but the officers shot him seventeen times, Killing him right their. This is what I think the theme of the novel
