Saint Atticus
Throughout the novel To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee there is always one constant that the reader can depend upon. As the story progresses, each and every character develops and waivers. However, Atticus Finch always sticks to the moral life. He leads by example the clear minded and respectful way of living life. Never wishing any harm even amongst the most despicable of people: Atticus is saint-like. Not only does he show his good will when he is home, but also in his career, when he uses everything in his power to prove his client innocent. Although most do not agree with his choice, Atticus sticks to his good morals and defends Tom Robinson to the fullest extent of his ability. Atticus Finch is a man who is saint-like

Atticus Finch is a man who will not let himself be tainted by the opinions of other people. It was against common culture to simply let a black man be guilty of any crime in this time of the novel, however Atticus knows that the justice system should be fair to every man. He uses all of his time and energy to make sure that Tom Robinson has the fairest trial that he can possibly have. At one point Scout finally makes a huge realization: “Then Mr. Underwood’s meaning became clear: Atticus had used every tool available to free men to save Tom Robinson, but in the secret courts of men’s hearts Atticus had no case“ ( 241). This proves that Atticus was determined to fight for what he believed in even though he knew as soon as he was assigned the case he would lose. Atticus had also expressed his sainthood when he was faced with the difficult task of shooting down the mad dog (96). He had sworn a vow to himself to only use a gun when he absolutely was forced too. He had an ability that he felt gave him an unfair advantage over the rest of life, and he choose to turn that power down whenever he could. Also, He also did not let anyone else’s opinion change his own. When the rest of the town was putting him down for defending Tom Robinson he still stuck with what he believed was morally right. Finally, He put everything he had into what he did even when it would have been easier for him to take it easier since he knew it would ultimately end in failure. At one point he even when out past his typical work hours to stand by Tom Robinson’s jail cell to protect him incase anyone came to hurt him
Atticus shows true courage by trying every way to help others who were in the need of it. First of all, it is courageous of Atticus to take the Tom Robinson case. Even his own family disagreed of taking the case because of the bias. He takes many risks when taking the Tom Robinson case. He risks the chance of critization by the people that live in the Maycomb County. Mrs. Dubose criticizes him when she said, “Atticus is a Nigger lover!’’ (100). Atticus Finch is a man of principles who is consistent in his views and deeds throughout the novel. Although he is criticized and mocked by many characters in the novel for his tolerant attitude towards the ‘Negros’, people of Maycomb still respect him and keep re-electing him to be their representative in the State Legislator. According to Miss Maudie Atkinson words to Scout, Atticus is a man who does for other people the unpleasant things they have to do. He is a defender of justice and he fights for it even if he is sure that he will be beaten at the end. He also tries throughout the novel to pass these values onto his children.
Many people don't possess intelligence or fairness or aren't even low key. But readers of the fictional novel called To Kill a Mockingbird written by Harper Lee know that Atticus Finch has all of these characteristics. Atticus played a big role in the novel. He was very tolerant. This taught Scout and Jem Finch to also be tolerant. In the novel, Scout learns to be patient with people and see things through their point of view. She also learns that all people aren't good. She comes of age while her father defends a black man named Tom Robinson. He was accused of raping Mayella Ewell, the daughter of Bob Ewell. Although everyone was very upset about the case, Atticus stayed low key and calm. Atticus Finch is a low key, fair, and intelligent man.
There are many people in the world with a good character. Atticus Finch, in the realistic fiction book To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee is one of those people. In Maycomb, Alabama, Atticus was a well respected lawyer and father of two children. The book shows Atticus's good character when he defends Tom Robinson, a black man, against the charge of raping a white, teenage girl. In the time the novel took place, it was a time of racial discrimination towards the black people.
Atticus Finch is a man of high moral standing. Throughout the book Atticus is threatened, mocked, and verbally abused, yet he doesn't give the reactions that you would expect from a “Southern man” from Alabama. At one point his life was even threatened by a man named Bob Ewell. Mr. Ewell spat in his face and told him that he would”get” Atticus. Instead of Atticus getting angry and retaliating, he just wipes off his face and walks away, Another time Atticus show good morals is when he tond Calpurnia to tell the black community not to bring him anything else and that times were too tough. This shows he wasn’t representing Tom Robinson for respect or attention, rather he was doing it
Atticus Finch is a lawyer who does not believe in racial discrimination. His courage is evident by his actions throughout the novel. Atticus accepts the Tom Robinson case having to know that he and his children will have to face racial slurs and many difficulties. “'Your fathers no better than the ____ and trash he works for!'” (102 Lee). This quote shows that Atticus and his children are going through a difficult time caused by the Tom Robinson case. Atticus stands up to his neighbours and to the racism of Maycomb. This is done while knowing that him and his children will have to go through a rough time. Although exposing his children to the difficulties from racism, he still shows courage by defending Tom. This was a very moral kind of courage, Atticus also shows acts of physical courage
In the book To Kill a Mockingbird Atticus Finch the protagonist represents integrity. “Integrity is doing the right thing even when no one is watching,” CS Lewis once said. Atticus shows this integrity even though he is not being praised and watched. Atticus not only is honest and kind to his neighbors and kids he also shows them great respect. He does not brag about his education and life even though it is slightly better than some in Maycomb. He also puts his life and reputation and danger to represent Tom. Atticus is overall a very trustworthy and selfless character.

Atticus is taking a stand for Tom Robinson because he got accused of rape. Atticus does take a stand for Tom Robinson. He is a caring person and is integrity.

He causes a stir in the town of Maycomb when he agrees to defend a black man in court. But, is he really an admirable character? Atticus Finch has done some questionable things, but he has proven to be the good guy numerous times.
“Shoot all the bluejays you want, if you can hit'em, but remember it's a sin to kill a mockingbird” (90). The timeless classic To Kill a Mockingbird has many unique characters but none quite like Atticus Finch. Atticus is one of the very few characters in To Kill a Mockingbird that never has to reconsider his position on an issue. Harper Lee introduces him as a person that sticks to what he believes is right and wrong, and doesn't waver from it. This quality supports that throughout the story Atticus is a patient, courageous, and honest man.
Atticus Finch is the most honest man you’ll ever meet in your life, never gives one the advantage unless needed. He’s the towns most useful resource in any given situation. If anything needs to be done than Atticus is there looking over his well admired neighbors in desperate needs. Atticus may be looked down on by some for being Toms lawyer and almost guiding an african american to victory over a caucasian male in a court case. But he was only doing this because he knew in his heart that Tom was certainly not guilty, or possibly not capable of inflicting such harm on Mayella Ewell with a handicapped left arm.
Atticus Finch in Harper Lee’s novel presented as a humble, caring, moral, stern but loving, character in this book, and being a single father with 2 kids younger than the age of ten, he should be a main role model for older fathers. Atticus does many things in this novel that makes him a humbling person, for example, he believes in justice, and what it stands for ‘’the quality of being just; righteousness, equitableness, or moral rightness’’. Tom Robinson is one person that he put justice into place, he doesn’t like criminal law, after hearing what Tom had to say he had proven he was innocent. During the trial Tom Robinson had to stay in the county jail, Atticus stayed with Tom for the night, making sure that no one touched him.
When Atticus took the case, he went up against Maycomb, a generally prejudiced town, in order to defend Tom. He understood that taking the case would make him an object of ridicule and that no one would forgive him for believing a black man's word over a white man's. Even his own sister expresses disapproval at his decision, practically telling him he was bringing disgrace to the family. Nevertheless, no matter how much his reputation suffered, he did not change his mind. Standing up for his morals and ethics was more important than what people thought about him. From the very start Atticus knows he will not win the case however he does his job and finishes what he set out to do.
In the novel To Kill A Mockingbird, Harper Lee presents Atticus Finch as a principled lawyer, committed but single father to Scout and Jem, and a law-abiding citizen. Atticus is a respectable gentleman in society and a role model for his children. Throughout the book we see evidence of his honorable intentions, though he doesn’t seem to reap the rewards. He is morally upstanding, even-keeled, and daring. Because of these things, Atticus is a man who deserves great respect and admiration.
