Yun Li Audio Narration Use in the Online Courses Training in Oil and Gas Industry Abstract The implementation of audio in the online courses is universal in Oil and Gas industry. However, the effectiveness of the audio in the training is controversial. This study investigates the value of audio narration embedded with on-screen text in the online courses. Participants were provided an online new hire orientation training course and administered a survey at the end of the training course. The result indicates that no significant evidence is found to support the need of audio embedment in the online courses for participants who are doers in the Oil and Gas industry. The job responsibilities for field engineers and technicians usually include inspect tools, repair and maintain the equipment, and manufacture the specific instrument. These jobs all require high application abilities. While they are performing the inspection or repair on the equipment, they are extremely concentrated. Any outside distraction or interruption on these field engineers and technicians would result in their job failures. Therefore, the present research aims to survey the need of narration audio in online training courses in the global Oil and Gas Company where most learners are field engineers or technicians and English is their second language. This paper contains the literature review articles emphasizing the audio effects and the use of audio narration together with scripts in the online training courses. According to the literature review papers, there is a gap between the literature and the research questions. Literature Review Using electronic databases such as Education Resources Reference Information Center (ERIC) and PsycINFO, I searched for articles using keywords “audio” and “online courses” and found three articles regarding audio use in online courses. These articles are Audio-based versus text-based asynchronous online discussion (Hew, 2012), Learning efficacy of simultaneous audio and on-screen text online lectures (Debuse. J. C, 2009), and Audio Use in E-learning: What,
This article titled “Read-only participants: a case for student communication in online classes” discussed the importance of communication in online courses as well as the reasons why students succeed or fail in these online courses.
Additionally, I wove my knowledge of best practices in online learning into my previous fall and spring ASL courses to improve, implement, and apply my new knowledge to alleviate a repeat dilemma of frustration, confusion, and inconsistencies in my future classes. Therefore, the plan utilizes principles such as developing it before the fall course begins, providing students concise and clearly articulated assignments, expectations, and rubrics (Anderson, 2011). Furthermore, as a blended class, I instructed students to post an introduction along with mine and a video introduction with the purpose of establishing connections before meeting face to face. With this in mind, application and utilization are set through the video introduction I recorded
Audiobook can be used in the classroom to proved a way for audio learns to learn better. We can listen to a book as a class and no one has to read allowed to the class. I personally listen to a lot of books at home and find that I can take notes easier.
It was found that embedded audio feedback is not as preferred by the students as written feedback, even though it offered much more detail to the specific feedback being given. This was probably to do with the technology but if students were asynchronously checking their writing, it needs to be simple and attractive for them to enjoy doing it. With written feedback, the information is present in front of the student to quickly adapt their writing. In regards to synchronous and asynchronous feedback from a teacher, synchronous was preferred whilst writing, although asynchronous does have its place. Students struggled to determine the learning value if they were not correcting their work as they wrote and returning to fix it later made the work more tiresome. Additionally, peer feedback was less preferred than teacher feedback in online settings. This is probably because peer feedback is not always trustworthy and often peers do not know how to correct what needs
(1) What is the book about? It talks about advance application and developments in the online class room. You will find that most new communication technologies were for recreational or personal use. Over time, they have been employed for education and knowledge applications. They examine a variety of applications in detail. The Author also talks about the impact of PowerPoint and Discussion forums. They share ideas for effective questioning strategies in the online class rooms.
The use of audiobooks has increased all around the world, and I have always wondered what the reason(s) why. So I decided that my research question had to deal with the use of audiobooks and a contribution that came along with them. The question that I developed to do research on is, how do audiobooks contribute to kids with reading disabilities? The reason why I am interested in this question is because I have always wondered why audiobooks are so popular in the world. There must be some positive effects to them, due to the increase of use. Also because I would
Upon the review of the current training needs of the Army, the use of online education is a very prominent source that can be utilized by different institutions to help educate and maintain more knowledge to the development of their workforce (Harasim, 2012). The US Army has implemented this philosophy to think about and include the knowledge of online training to help each employee advance in their training. By adopting this new policy, the military will save a tremendous amount of money. Technology has been the catalyst for online education as millions of students have taken advantage of the convenience and quality of instruction available. The Department of Defense (DoD) and US Army have been in the forefront of computer-assisted instruction,
Even though he isn’t against all forms of technology, he is also able to argue that the form of close learning “is entirely compatible with engaging in meaningful conversations outside the classroom.” He uses examples of using e-mail to communicate regularly with his students and has even started using many different forms of media. He has been able to appeal to not only the professionals who may read this article, but also to current college students who are deciding if online courses would be best for them and want to see both sides of this particular
After the majority of the assets were gathered they were imported into Captivate. These assets were broken into three smaller productions so that could be managed. They were the new incident, search incident and relate incident productions. After combining the pertinent assets into their respective productions the audio was generated. Then using the tools available in Adobe Captivate’s IDE button were added to link slides. Using the instruction in the narration markers were created to direct the placement of text boxes that would accept user input. Following that and using the same audio objects such and bordered squares and arrows were created to control the end-user’s focus. (Shirts,
Upon careful assessment and consideration, I have determined that I am an auditory learner. Sound helps accentuate and strengthen instructional content that is delivered through speech/auditory format. Voicing written instructional content helps me confirm the concept and notions conveyed to a more understandable format that my brain comprehends and recalls better. I believe delivering instructional content through speech or audio format helps fortify the intended message in the sense that tonal variations and emphasis help note important points and statements, which can be recalled easily (Rohrer & Pashler, 2012). An auditory learner prefers verbal instruction instead of written assignments or readings. Auditory learning requires sound and voicing of instructional content for better understanding and assimilation (Rohrer & Pashler,
The first article that I looked at was Reflective Outcomes of Convergent and Divergent Group Tasking in the Online Learning Environment. The introduction is talking about multimedia uses as far as education and online learning. From the introduction of this article, I learned that online learning is used as being an opportunity to have access to learning where they would not usually have that access. This article is focusing on using online environments for different learning purposes.
education is a better way for students to survive in the future. In my essay, I will
It also includes the delivery of content via Internet, intranet/extranet (LAN/WAN), audio- and videotape, satellite broadcast, podcast, interactive TV, CD-ROM, and more. E-learning programs are endowed with a training system, which employees can access, where face-to-face instruction is not possible because the very nature is that it is borderless and potentially global in scope. With e-learning methods, training can take place on-demand, and trainees can be given greater control over their learning than ever before (Rosenberg 2001). This increased control has the potential to improve training effectiveness. E-learning courses add value to traditional learning modes by offering self-paced or live, instructed training classes. Specifically, self-paced courses can be taken at the employee's leisure and are good for self-motivated persons. Typically these types of courses can be taken at convenience of the busy workers as well as for globally dispersed employees. Hence workplace training needs to be broadened and customized (Marc J. Rosenberg & Steven Foreman 2010). Live e-learning is capable of instant updating, storage/retrieval, distribution and sharing of instruction and information. Soft skills such as management, leadership, or team building can be tackled in this environment. However, this type of training works best if the class size is limited to 25
The use of audiovisual equipment like instructional DVDs, CDs, or digital media is beneficial in initially showing an incoming employee how the company's business works. DVDs, CDs, or digital media can assist employees in need of training without the associated cost of a second instructing employee. This can be of use when the training is monotonous and not required to have a high level explanation. When possible, it can be helpful for the new employee to see his or her own mistakes by recording. The recording of the employee's mistake and later explanation of error and resolution in real time covering an action that is observable by both parties (Snell & Bohlander, p. 310, 2012).
