The rich history of American Deaf culture in conjunction withlanguage displays the determination along with the brilliance of these people. Though the hearing world had called them sin, denounced them as dumb, these people rose up against their oppressors, making a new world for themselves.

The book, Deaf Again, written by Mark Drolsbaugh, is an autobiography telling his life story which starts with a young boy growing up who goes through the process of losing his hearing and then, as he gets older, he struggles with trying to fit in as a normal child. When Mark was very young, he could hear fairly well then gradually he went hard of hearing until he eventually went completely deaf. Even though he had two deaf parents, the doctors advised speech therapy and hearing aids because they did not understand Deaf Culture and they thought that Mark would be a lot happier if he could hang on to his hearing persona. After reading Deaf Again I learned a lot of new things about Deaf culture and was drawn in by the story of Mark Drolsbaugh. "The hardest fight a man has to fight is to live in a world where every single day someone is trying to make you someone you do not want to be" e.e cummings. I was brought into the book immediately from this quote and realized how difficult it must have been for Mark to find his identity. He was trying to hang on to his hearing in fear of going deaf as if there was something wrong or not proper with being deaf. It took him a long time, twenty-three years to realize that the Deaf culture is receiving and it was there for him to embrace the entire time. Have you ever felt like there was nothing that you can do for your child? In this book, Deaf Like Me, by Thomas S. Spradley and James P. Spradley, I can see the journey that Lynn’s parents took to get her help. (Spradley & Spradley, 1978). This book was an excellent read. I really liked the way that they described the ways they tried to help Lynn to understand the world around her. The book, is a great asset for any family that might be unexpectedly put into a situation that they know nothing about such as a deaf child.

In the novel “Deaf Again” by Mark Drolsbaugh, the reader is taken on a journey through the life of the author himself, from birth all the way to present day. Drolsbaugh, a once hearing child but now Deaf adult, takes readers through the struggles and situations he faced as a child born into the Deaf culture, yet still forced to try and suppress his deafness when his ability to hear started to decline. The author shares his experiences of becoming “deaf again”, and how he had to learn for himself what being Deaf really meant in regards to not just in his own life but the people in it. Drolsbaugh’s novel explores many of the issues and debates surrounding Deaf culture, while still giving his personal views and understandings on what it really means to be Deaf.

The sponsoring organization for the Pomona deaf event was called Deaf Nation. Their purpose for the event was so that people could have connection meeting other people who are deaf and people who want to learn more about the deaf culture of American Sign Language. The membership was free admission anyone who was interested in the Deaf Expo could attend for more information about the deaf culture. The event was located in Fairplex building 7, there was a large amount of people. The event was on May 7th on Saturday. It started at 9am, but I came late. There were Deaf, hard of hearing, and hearing people in the building. The building was ginormous and people were really welcoming. The purpose of the event was to help the deaf community people to interact with other people and people who could hear learn more about the culture. It is hosted by Deaf Nation every year in Pomona and also in other three

Auditory people are the people who prefer listening to things. They love to have their favourite piece of music playing, or love listening to somebody talk. However, an auditory person will certainly not be happy if they do not approve of the sounds are not to their taste! If the sounds around them are not to their liking it can cause disruptions or distractions. When learning they would prefer participating in debates and listening to oral presentations. Each culture has certain traditions or values that hold them close together. The Deaf culture uses sign language to express their pride and culture by coming together. Other cultures may use bibles or religion that tie them close together and make them proud to be a part of that culture. There are many children who are being diagnosed with hearing losses almost every day. In the article, “Teaching Students with Hearing Losses,” by Alice-Ann Darrow, an Irvin Cooper Professor of Music Education and Music Therapy at Florida State University, Tallahassee conveyed a message that students with hearing losses are capable of learning music.
