Austere Academy Book Report

When it is finally time for Francie to go to school, she gets so thrilled and immediately starts making high expectations for her first year. She anticipates to learn to read and write on the first day, receive her own school supplies, and to become the teacher’s pet. She becomes disillusioned when she enters school, though. It obviously takes weeks to learn to read and write. She only gets one pencil that she must return at the end of the day, and has to share desks with the other lower-class children. She also realizes that only certain people attain the rank of teacher’s pet – the rich schoolgirls. Francie is disappointed upon coming to school, and continues her understanding of prejudice.

I am reading Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand and I am on page 300. This portion of the book is about Louie Zamperini living his WWII days in different POW camps. He has to endure beatings and inhumane conditions. In this journal I will be evaluating and predicting.

Unbroken, A book written by Louie Hillenbrand, is the story that follows Louie Zamperini’s life. He was a troublemaker at the beginning of his life, but, when a friend that his brother was tutoring was deemed feeble-minded, he decided to change his ways.

The bad beginning or Orphans is a book about protecting properties and the genre of this novel is mystery, adventure, and family. The main character of this novel are three children whose name are Baudelaire Violet, Baudelaire Klaus, and Baudelaire Sunny. Violet is an older sister, she likes to skip rocks. Klaus is a middle child, he is extremely smart and he always goes to the library for reading books. Sunny is the youngest child, who likes to bite things. At the beginning, their parents die because of an unexpected fire. Therefore, they went to a man called Count Olaf’s house. Count Olaf is a stage actor, and a distant relatives of the children. Count Olaf is a horrible person, he always planned for their parent’s heritage. Few month later, Count Olaf planned to marry Violet to get their money. Before the wedding, Count Olaf catched Sunny so Violet should marry him.

Consequences are an effect to any choice no matter good or bad. Strongly shown in The Outsiders By: S. E. Hinton the main character Ponyboy Curtis, a young 14 year old is forced to make courageous and heroic decisions from a very young age. Being the younger one and living with his two older brothers Darry, age 20 and Sodapop, age 16 he is often over loved. He belongs to a group called the Greasers, rivals of a wealthier group named the Socials, but more commonly known as the Socs. One night after going to the movies Ponyboy and his friend Johnny fall asleep in a vacant lot.

To begin Laurie came home from the first day and was definitely frustrated. Charles came home and his” voice suddenly became raucous” (Jackson, 345). Chopin uses common household features as a metaphor for Mrs. Mallard’s exclusion from the outside world. When she first learns of Brently’s death, Louise looks out an open window into an open square. Next, Chopin chooses to use treetops a quiver with new spring life as the first thing Louise sees prior to having her revelation, with a description of the delicious breath of rain in the air. Spring, of course is when things grow anew, and we know that water, as a a symbol cleanses ill pasts. The school he attends when he is a little older is a school by any means, but there is great turmoil. Often the older boys pick on the younger ones and while this may be brought to the attention of the director (the principle, headmaster etc.) the older boys would be punished but it would be so overlooked that as soon as they were finished being punished, they would return from their beatings and give them back tenfold to the young boys who told on them. This section is actually one of my favorite parts.
