Good Morning Members of the Australian Flag Committee, A country's flag is its most important, valuable and honourable representation. By looking at it, one can understand all about that country's history, people and values. As we are choosing a new flag for Australia, we should choose one that tells the story of Australia from the beginning till the end. Some might be wondering, what is wrong with our current Australian flag? Well I ask you, does the three elements, the Union Jack, the Commonwealth Star and the Southern Cross tell the complete story of Australia? Does it represent the unity, culture and understanding in our country and among our people? The first reason why we should adopt my design as our new flag is because it symbolizes the unity of all our states and territories. Without having the symbol made of 8 stars united by one big star present on the flag, we will all forget the importance of working together as one to make a better Australia. Every day, our country is faced with many problems. It could be environmental, governmental or economical. Without the help of all 6 states and 2 territories, our country, Australia, cannot move forward and be successful. My design is …show more content…
They are the indigenous people who have had their homes taken away and were separated from their families. These people are not even remembered in our current Australian flag. As we celebrate Australia day each year with joy, pride and love, they mourn over their loss of family and land. Television journalist, Caroline Jones is one of the few who remember the indigenous Australians and their sacrifices. She had said “Aboriginal people are a steady beating heart at the centre of our Australian spiritual identity." My new proposal represents the beating heart of Australia by the colours red and black. They show the importance of the aboriginal people and their significant cultures and
Do you known what our flag means? Well I do. I have three great words that will tell you what it means to me. First I think of spirit of our country that ever one should have with them as long as they live. Spirit should also show that you are American no matter where you are in the world. Spirit should never leave you even if our country is going through a bad war. Pride is the second word that comes to my mind. Pride means to me that all the soldiers who fight or who are fighting in wars have pride for country so that they can keep ever on safe. Pride should not just be kept in you should let our pride out and show pride for being in freedom. Pride is what also should show that you are a true American anywhere you go in our life. The last
What does the American Flag mean to me? It means freedom, respect, equal right, faith and hope. Soldiers help protect this country, they fight for us, they give up everything for us. People don’t know how important the flag is. The flag means our country’s freedom. When I look up at the flag, I see people, not just any people, the great Americans that have fought for this country.
The Flag that stands tall in our country could be defined in many different ways. Many people may say “oh the 13 stripes are because of the 13 colonies and the fifty states are the fifty stars. These people are just repeating the literal meaning, but these people don’t understand the true meaning of the American Flag. The American Flag represents opportunity, unity, and the pursuit of your dreams.
The Australian flag is well overdue for a change. The current flag is outdated and the Southern Cross and the Union Jack are no longer relevant or unique to Australia. The present Australian flag also fails to be instantly recognisable, confusing foreigners, as it is too similar to many other countries. Yet, for me, the most important reason the flag needs changing is to represent Aboriginal Australia and to encourage Aboriginal Reconciliation, by creating a flag that incorporates Aboriginal elements and our native history. By doing this we would be representing all Australians. Clearly, the Australian flag should be
“O’er the land of the free,” our national anthem sings, stating our freedom. America’s flag demonstrates our freedom, as well as our veterans and also has represented guidance. What does America’s flag mean to you? It means a lot to me representing America’s wonderful characteristics. Although, the flag may have gone through hardships, it still stands tall, bold, and wonderful. Now, think about the flags meaning, purpose, and wonders as we take a step forward to learn our wondrous banner’s characteristics in my eyes.
Australia... land of the sun, beaches and kangaroo’s, known for being a free and multicultural country accepting you, no matter whom you are... or so we thought. Kevin Gilbert’s insightful poem ‘The New True Anthem’ tries to uncover the faults hidden under Australia’s picturesque surface. It depicts an Aboriginals’ view of Australia, comparing images of Australia to the harsh reality that the author feels is happening in this country. The destruction of the environment and the poor treatment of Aboriginal people are common themes that can be seen throughout the poem which contrast ideas about Australia such as natural beauty and freedom.
What does the United States flag mean to me.The United States flag means a lot to me because it represents the country I live in. The United States flag makes me feel home.I drive by homes, grocery stores, restaurants, and so many other places and see the beautiful United States flag. Every morning I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America. I love the colors and I always remember 50 stars fifty states 13 stripes thirteen colonies. I also remember the white signifies purity and innocence, red signifies valor and bravery, and blue signifies vigilance, perseverance, and justices. We raise the flag in honor and in memory of those who have and/or are serving. The flag if flown at half-staff to show the live we have lost. The
My first argument for today is about how the Australian flag represents Australia. The Australian national flag has served Australia well over a hundred years as the chief national symbol by law, custom and tradition. The Australian flag displays a variety of symbols which
The final fold, when completed, the flag is folded in a way the stars are uppermost reminding us of our Nation’s motto, “In God We Trust.” After the flag is completely folded and tucked in, it takes on the appearance of a cocked hat, ever reminding us of the soldiers who served under General George Washington, and the Sailors and Marines who served under Captain John Paul Jones, who were followed by their comrades and shipmates in the Armed Forces of the United States, preserving for us the rights, privileges, and freedoms we enjoy today. The American flag is the symbol of our Nation; a symbol of hope and a future. We are gifted with the grace of Freedom, so that we may strive to continue to breed success and to always prosper.
The Reconciliation Flag, designed by Brendan Jones in 1995, is arguably the best flag design to represent both Australia’s British and Aboriginal heritage. The flag design contains the Southern Cross, a boomerang and the seven-pointed Commonwealth star. It was designed with the intention of reconciling with the Aboriginal people. A majority of Australians believe a new flag is necessary to replace our current flag that has been serving our country for over 100 years. The Australian flag is an iconic symbol, unique to Australia. It is something that represents the whole of Australia – as a nation. When foreigners look at our flag, we want them to view Australia as a place of justice – where everyone is equal. Therefore, it is only imperative
Those in favor of keeping the flag do not want it to change because the flag as it is today, is known overseas It has very distinctive characteristics, and is proudly used in national sporting events. These people believe that their flag that depicts the union jack is necessary to remember and honor their British heritage. Australia presented their country’s flag during the Olympic Games of Melbourne and Sydney. Many major events - either the celebration of an achievement or a public tragedy- involve the national flag in some way and reinforces the need for the flag to be honored
What do you do when you see the flag? Do you take off your hat and put your right hand on your heart and sing the National Anthem? While you do this, think of the men who fought for our freedom. They helped us get the freedom to do what we want and not get told what to do. The freedom we have today is all because we won the wars and we earned our freedom. The flag represents our freedom that we have today. America is the free country and we have the freedom of speech! We don’t have to worry about starvation or the lack of water because in Africa, they have some freedom and little water. Every day, we have the freedom to go to whatever store we want. We can wear what we want and do what we want
The colonisation' of Australia by Europeans has caused a lot of problem for the local Aborigines. It drastically reduced their population, damaged ancient family ties, and removed thousands of Aboriginal people from the land they had lived on for centuries. In many cases, the loss of land can mean more than just physical displacement. Because land is so much connected to history and spirituality, the loss of it can lead to a loss of identity. This paper will examine the works of Tim Rowse and Jeremy Beckett as well as other symbols of identity that are available to modern Aborigines in post colonial Australia.
The Australian Indigenous community hold extremely significant corrections to the land of Australia, of which they refer to as ‘Country.’ Indigenous people acquire deep meaning from the land, sea and the countless resources derived from them. This special relationship has formed for many centuries. To them ‘Country’ is paramount for overall wellbeing; the strong, significant, spiritual bonds embody their entire existence. Knowledge is continually passed down to create an unbroken connection of past,
The article by Sarrah le Marquand, ‘Apathy wins flag debate’ appears in the tabloid of The Advertiser (February 2, 2013), and online at ‘The Punch: Australia’s best conversation’, under a different title, ‘Flagging This Change is not unAustralian’. This political opinion is to remove the Union Jack from the Australian flag. This is an important topic, as National flag’s construct symbolic meaning, identity and “pride” of country (Fozdar, Spittles & Harlety, 2014, p. 2). As a political writer, Sarrah le Marquand's career has been in the entertainment industry, soap operas, for The Daily Telegraph, for film and as an editor for columnist features’ (News Limited, 2014).
