Throughout my research, I have discovered that all autistic children have specific individualized characteristics and that both programs are equally stressful because both require IEP for their students even though special education has it for all and not just a fraction of their children. A successful special education program requires research supported practices that include individualized assessment of a child’s skills and strengthens, interests, and needs. It includes intense treatment, low adult-child ratios, and highly structured and individualized intervention programs and its goal would be to improve and increase the child’s social and language skills as well as to reduce/ minimize behaviors that interfere with functioning and learning. But based on the research conducted this is only proven under certain conditions. The main condition is that integration should be based on the individual needs of the student. This means that child movement relies solely on social and academic readiness. Socal readiness is characterized by impairments in social interactions, communication, and behavior. Some social issues include the dislike for being touched, the inability to look others in the eye, being more interested in objects than people, and not being able to make friends or play with others. When it comes to communication these individuals have the inability to socialize properly, and difficulty with verbal and nonverbal communication. Nonverbal communication is defined as the understanding of body language, gestures, and facial expressions. Repetitive behavior, commonly identified in individuals with OCD, can also be found in the autistic children.
