Communication is a fundamental life skill that enables us understand those around us as well as provides a means to work together to achieve goals. However, those who have Autistic Spectrum Disorder have a large disadvantage at birth in this area due to the nature of the condition. The sobering reality is “many children with ASD are delayed in the development of their first words or phrases” (Bernier and Gerdts, 7). Children without any development disorders tend to produce a single words by 12 months and by 24 months have begun to form speech that is two to three words in length. While “ many children with a ASD develop single words at 24 months or later and phrase speech at 36 months or later. Some children with ASD do not develop spoken

Children with autism condition may have speech delay and not be able to communicate whatsoever; mainly, those with severe autism. Though when children are diagnosed with autism early on their lives becomes manageable and their parents may get the help they need. I work at a hospital where I meet autistic children and their parents. The number of Somali children is very high, as some parents are confused and did not know the resources that were available to them. There is a stigma that is associated with ASD. Autism is becoming more and more common within young children and can be noticed by the age of 24 months. The definition of Autism spectrum disorder is a steady, developmental disorder, which becomes identifiable by deficiencies in impersonation, signaling, observational learning, joint consideration, typical play, and comprehend the state of feeling (Soucy, 1997). Therefore, it makes it harder for a child to understand concepts or follow directions. These children tend to need extra help or extra guidance to allow them to stay focused during class and being able to stay on task. In this paper, I will be discussing the behavior description of children with autism spectrum and how can impact their interaction with their peers in an early childhood education setting.
n recent times, the question has been raised as to whether there is a cure for autistic behaviors. This has sparked the controversy as to whether autism should be categorized by the “need for a cure.” Parents have argued against physicians that a child is not defined by autism. This initiated the search for a solution in which would minimize the behavioral issues that are associated with autistic children. The generalization that what we consume can affect our behavior originated from a “California allergist Benjamin Feingold” (Schardt 2000). However since the 1970’s came the concept that behavioral issues in autistic children can be enhanced by the consumption of specific foods, linking certain chemicals and proteins to cause a lack of or
Barbeau, Soulières, Dawson, Zeffiro and Mottron (2012) conducted an experiment to examine the correlation of autistic individuals’ intelligence between their intelligence level and their intelligence examination time. The goal of the experiment was to compare inspection time (IT) between people on the autistic spectrum and some control typical groups, and to determine whether or not early speech development is related to these statistics (Barbeau, et al., 2012). The results were expected to be that the autistic group would outperform the typical group in a Wechsler IQ test regarding their IT and would be very similar to the performance of the typical group on the Raven’s Progressive Matrices (RPM, a test of reasoning ability that doesn’t need
The history of Autism is fascinating because the first theories were based n little more than an assumption. This lead to generations of parents being blamed for their child’s disability that was later found to be a genetic brain disorder.
Not every child can adapt to every environment they encounter with. Everyone is very different in many ways. Personally, I believe children become immune to mental disorders because they don’t adjust to anything fast. Children are always labeled under negative descriptions. Labels never describe behavior instead it describes people which is bad. According to Mash and Wolfe (2016), We must be careful to avoid the common mistake of identifying the person with the disorder, as reflected in expressions such as “anxious child” or “autistic child”. (p.12). We should put these children in some type of program to help them not be label instead make their behaviors labeled. These children with disorders actually needs help especially when it comes to
Autism is a real social issue. It is one of the most common and fastest growing developmental conditions of the 21st century. It is an epidemic that is rapidly affecting young children through out the globe. One out of two hundred and fifty children is being diagnosed with this condition every single day. So, why so many people are still in the dark in regards to what they know about autism? The lack of education in schools, medical providers and society as all has put a heavy burden on the shoulders of autistic children and their families who are trying to “figure it out” all by themselves.
Gestures benefit the receiver and the sender, often taking the place of words. This type of nonverbal communication can be used to convey an understanding, aid in revealing complex ideas and to get attention. Gestures can be done to show listening and comprehension, such as a head nod. These can also help to explain, answer or promote what is being said verbally in a visual way. An example of this would be in a conversation with someone. The person speaking may gestures money by rubbing their fingers to their thumb, to highlight the subject of money which is being spoken upon. Another example would be in the discussion of distance or large size extending hands and arms out from the body, thus emphasizing the extreme amount being discussed.
A gesture is a form of non-verbal communication or non-vocal communication in which visible bodily actions communicate particular messages, either in place of, or in conjunction with, speech. Gestures include movement of the hands, face, or other parts of the body.
