Hey Phantom, I completely agree with you about autonomy and competence being important. I can tell from your discussion posts and the like that you’re a hyper focused motivated person – which reminds me of myself – that always needs to do their best. In that regard, being micromanaged and not meeting standards is simply not an option. With that said, personally, these traits can sometimes be a burden as well as a blessing – such as expecting too much of yourself and getting stressed. I wonder if you ever experience that and if you so how do you combat it? As for you schedule, it’s great that you have your schedule planned out so that you can be both precise when needed and make on the fly adjustments – you couldn’t be doing it any better.
Phantom Limb Pain (PLP) is a serious condition that occurs when a person who has lost a part of their body though amputation, trauma (brachial plexus), or loss of nervous connections in an appendage, perceives that the limb is still there and experiences sensations coming from this area. It was first described in 1866 by S. Weir Mitchell, an American neurologist, through a short story published in Atlantic Monthly. While Mitchell may then have wondered if this was specific to wounded Civil War soldiers, it has since been established as quite common (1). Over 70% of amputees report phantom limb pain for years after amputation (2). Several theories have been proposed regarding PLP, although there is still much to be
As you can see, I have to watch over many things. My fail proof way of keeping up with it all; is to follow a list I created for myself. By doing this, it helps me to ensure nothings missed and I stay on top of things. Otherwise I could potential miss something. Other ways that help with my fail proof system: Cell Phone, Outlook calendrer, and my planner. Over all I really enjoy what I do and the things I get involved in. I can truly say to this day, this is my ideal job. I have hopes of becoming a Facility Manager at this site or my own. I have also provided an attachment of the list I follow daily.
Recently while working at MedRite Urgent Care in New York City I was awarded the role of head medical assistant. In this role I am in charge of making sure the other medical assistants are doing their jobs properly, become aware of new protocols, make sure the rooms are properly stocked with supplies, and assist in training the new staff as they join our team. I have learned from this role that it is important to not only lead my staff, but also be a part of their team because when we work together we can provide more efficient medical care. The staff feels comfortable coming to me with questions and I am always encouraging them to share any suggestions they have about improving our system. Since taking on the position I have created expectations
During his week reading the error/opportunity that I can identify with is demanding the impossible. As a hospitalist provider, sometimes I feel that the administration does not care about the patients but instead of how many admissions and discharges are done in a timely manner. There are days that I feel like I’m a glorified intern/student. There are days administrators are emailing me stating that I need to discharge 8 patients before 9 am but at the same time I’m taking calls from the emergency room, must see my new admits from overnight and have patient family conferences. Beside all the things I have just stated, there are days
The Ego Centric Problem states that the knowledge we have gained over the period of our lives in entrenched so deep that it prevents us from learning new things. Descartes states that “if we can only be certain of the contents of our consciousness, then how are we ever to gain knowledge of the world that lies beyond our minds. This brings up a good point, if we already have knowledge, does that knowledge have any influence on us that would hinder us to learn new things.
Throughout history, Georg Simmel and W.E.B. Du Bois have had a significant influence on important theories and ideas developed in the Social Sciences. Perhaps two of the most relevant and well-known concepts developed by both of these theorists are the concepts of “double consciousness” and “the stranger”. In this paper I will be analyzing both of these pieces of work to draw upon differences and similarities between the two. The similarities I will be elaborating on are the usage of the paradoxical figure, which both Simmel and Du Bois discuss in their theories, and the coexisting feeling of division from mainstream society. The difference between the two theories that I will be exploring is the perception that mainstream society has of
Ever since we are born we have someone looking over us, someone guiding us, someone telling us what to do. This concept carries into our culture and interweaves itself into every aspect of our lives. Our first steps out into the world on our own, away from our parents, is to go to school. Here we are governed primarily by our teachers, but also by the school administrators. When it comes time to complete our educations and embark, finally, into the real world to be by ourselves, to make our own decisions we are met with are rude awakening. Out here we are faced with the simple reality that we will never be free from someone looking over us. Our government watches us through the eyes of the local law enforcement. Our bosses watch us through our shift managers. Our landlords watch us through routine inspections. It seems we can never escape or truly be
Although I set working hours whilst on PEP, sometime I was required to be flexible with the time schedule to complete some tasks sooner for further processing, and this definitely challenged me especially during the assignment week at uni. For instance, if someone from the Mind Smart Guides Focus Group couldn’t attend a session, I still needed to reschedule with him or her individually to cover his/ her task.
I am employed as a Maintenance Manager at the Strand Palace Hotel in London. I am responsible for the day to day maintenance of the whole building, also refurbishments of guest rooms and corridors, public areas and back of house areas. I am working with a team of 15 technicians and 4 shift engineers, all with different skills. Every first and last hour of my day will involve planning tasks to be completed, ranging from fixing any breakdowns of machinery to hanging a mirror in the admin office.
Psychodynamics is an umbrella term, specifically an approach to psychology which highlights personality through unconscious psychological processes. The underlying cause of psychodynamics is to understand why many people act in ways that may not make sense as well as to identify the relationship between unconscious motivation and conscious motivation. The psychodynamic approach is made up of different theories and therapies founded by various psychologists which focus closely on an individual’s unconscious drives, and see how these drives relate to one’s personality. The most prominent psychologists who have contributed to the psychodynamic approach include Sigmund Freud, Carl Jung, Alfred Adler, Erik Erikson, and Karen Horney. Unlike the behavior approach to psychology which leans towards understanding the science behind behavior and how external factors help stimulate these behaviors, psychodynamics attempts to look into one’s mind and observe how they see the world from their unique point of view. The psychodynamic approach is the most influential approach in the field of psychology because it emphasizes how unconscious forces impact an individual’s present behavior, unlike other approaches to psychology which focus on one’s past behaviors influencing their present behavior.
Clocking into work on my very first day, I went to my manager’s offices and saw the new schedule and it conflicted with different aspects of my life. It became difficult to balance school work, my job and my social life all in one day. Every Friday I was at work, and every Friday an assignment was due and every Friday my
As an individual we all have to have a better concept with time management, and how well we use it within our working lives. It is therefore very important that I try to keep to it within my working practise and look towards Maslow’s theory. Which focuses on the way that we understand our needs and differentiating them and setting time limits, on getting everything done. So that we do not enforce on after essential areas of your
And we feel that, because of the impact on the woman, this … is a matter which is of such fundamental and basic concern to the woman involved that she should be allowed to make the choice as to whether to continue or to terminate her pregnancy” (Weddington). This quote was taken from the legal trials of Roe VS. Wade from the attorney Mrs.Weddington. This quote is saying women have the right to choose what happens to their bodies. They have self autonomy. Self autonomy is defined as the right or condition of self-government. This means that if someone has self autonomy, they themselves are the governing force to what happens to them physically and mentally. It is the belief that only you are in control of yourself. Self autonomy is a largely shared belief in American culture. The right to body autonomy is protected under the United States constitution. If a patient is dying of an illness and would be able to live if they received a treatment, the patient still has the right to refuse that treatment. If a person is raped, the law holds it as invasion as body autonomy and the offender will be prosecuted criminally. Even the dead have body autonomy. A body, though being full of organs that can be used to save lives, will not be touched unless the person had granted consent before they passed.
During my first and second week of placement, I had some difficulty with my time management. The reason behind this, I found myself taking on too many tasks with little time during the busy peak hours. I was overwhelmed with the amount of things I need to accomplish. These included: Attending to patients’ personal care, administering
If you are told to do something else during the day make sure you can have time to get the job done if not then you can simply ask someone else if they would be willing to help you with making sure the task at hand will get done when and/or how it needs to be done. When you get asked to do something, make sure that there is enough time to ensure it is done right the first time because you may not have enough time to accomplish the task. You will then need to make sure that the next time you are given a task, to manage your time a little bit better because as a soldier you need to do the task at hand right the first time because you don’t want your supervisors going behind you and telling you that you need to do the task over because you didn’t make an effort to do it right the first time. Then when you have to do the tasks over again then you have the risk over going into the time you had planned on using for the other task that they had you doing. When you cannot make the hit time for one task that was given to you that because other issues will take place because you failed to do it right the first time. If it is a big task that they want you to do, see if you can have another soldier to help you out to get the task at hand done. When it’s a big task make sure there are breaks that are taking during the task because you don’t want to get over worked and then you can do the task the right way the first time.
