Avian Veterinarian Or Microrobotics

During the spring break, I went back to Houston. My friend introduced me to one of the veterinarian technicians at the Sugarland pet hospital. Since I have no experience with any medical procedure yet. We just went over the basic things that other veterinarian assistants do.

In the fast paced world of Veterinary Medicine, sterilization of surgical materials ranks high in importance. By disinfecting tools used in routine spays and neuters, as well as more advanced procedures, Veterinarians and other health professionals greatly decrease the chances of harmful bacteria entering their patients which could potentially cause life-threatening infections. In order to maintain this sterile equipment in a veterinary clinic, one must wash utensils, wrap them in surgical paper, and autoclave them for fifty minutes.

“No owner wants a pet to suffer because medical care is out of reach.”(Humane Society, 2014) As a veterinary technician (vet techs) we take are job very seriously. The best ways to ensure the wellbeing of all the animals that vet techs care for they must learn all the duties at the animal hospital. A vet tech working in a veterinarian hospital has five main areas of focus that include laboratory, surgical, office management, customer service and reception, examination and treatment.

It is considered common knowledge that when slavery is mentioned that cotton was the primary cash crop however, it is uncommonly known how vital it was to the world’s economy and resources. Settlers in North America produced this cash crop on large scale by turning to African slaves. The reason slaves were used was because the slaves were much cheaper as a means of labor as well as other functions too. Many business men use the desirability of slaves and grew rich in the slave trade. Some big portions of the economy were directly influenced by slaves, which made them more than just a source of cheaper labor compared to indentured servants.

In order to become a certified veterinarian, you must get a doctor of veterinary medicine degree, which typically takes four years. My reason for pursuing the Animal Science Major is because I know that it is the first step in becoming a Veterinary Science Major. I have the desire and passion in becoming a Veterinary Surgeon and owning my own practice. By achieving those goals, I will have the utmost control and ability to make the decisions that can save the lives of my client's pets and livestock. I have always had an affinity for the calming and personal peace that pet ownership could bring. I believe that by becoming a veterinary surgeon I would possess the ability to aid the owners in making the choices that are beneficial both to the owner and to the wellbeing of the animal. A career I have been interested in is that of an animal health technician, which are responsible for animals and their wellbeing. Work usually takes place in an animal hospital, clinic, or an animal control setting. Unlike animal health technician, “Uncertified workers are called Veterinary Assistants” (EUREKA). As a certified technician, one works under a veterinarian and would help them by in assisting with surgery, providing treatment to patients, prescribing medications, and inject immunizations. Animal health technicians also provide emergency assistance to animals, including suturing skin incisions, administering anesthesia, casting broken bones, and bandaging wounds (EUREKA). Although the job requires a lot of medical responsibilities,

Ever since I was about 6 years old i always adored animals. I wanted to help any animal who was sick or endanger. This career would be good for me because, I grew up taking care of many different animals. Being a vet or veterinary assistant would be the best job for me.

In the United States approximately sixty seven percent of all veterinarians specialize in companion animals such as dogs or cats leaving an alarming thirty three percent of veterinarians concentrated on large animals of that thirty three percent only two percent specialize predominantly on livestock that will produce food products. (Kelly Roy,2011) In nine predominantly rural states there are more cattle than people. South Dakota leads this statistic with close to four times the number of cattle to people. With statistics like these there is a clear deficit of accredited veterinarians to treat these animals. This leads to the question; how does America solve this looming issue?

Veterinarians have a job that acquires a long time to meet the requirements for education and training. The majority of people studying to become a veterinarian are required to go to college for eight years. Which is a longer time than a person studying to become a doctor to go to college. The reason is that veterinarians are required to learn about the different anatomical structures of several different animals. They must also learn about the illnesses that the animals may acquire and how to treat them.

A career in being a veterinarian should be obtained by a person who enjoys caring for animals, and sometimes having to care for their owners when they have to make hard decisions. Before becoming, a veterinarian person should know the career proves to need a lot of education, but is well worth the work in the end. It is important to know a veterinarian’s regular duties, required education, and the possible salary before choosing a career in this field.
