Question 1
I am presented with a high-volume pharmacy with multiple complaints filed with the BOP. Yet it is the ‘go-to’ pharmacy in the area for the difficult patient. The pharmacy and staff are willing to fulfill their oath, as health CARE providers by filling prescriptions for a population of under-served patients that are too complicated, too difficult, or too hard to manage for the other area pharmacies to serve. Service is the key here, and the volume of BOP complaints tells me first off that there is a problem within the corporate culture of the pharmacy organization that is failing to recognize the patient as the customer. Most issues that could result in a BOP complaint should be able to be defused at store level with the proper

There are many checkpoints to reduce the risk of these medications reaching patients Boards of Pharmacy need to continue to filter out the bad actors (distributers, pharmacists, and non-pharmacist purchasing agents). But the pharmacist is the final gatekeeper. Pharmacists need the tools, financial resources, and time to protect our …show more content…
Both are mind, mood, and body altering substances. Both can have deleterious effects if used in excess. Can impair the decision process, physical functions, and mental processes. So what is the difference? Why is one legal and one not. At one time in our history both were legal. We tried to ban alcohol at one point. That experiment failed miserably. Giving birth to the organized crime we still enjoy today. If a jury were to hear the case of Alcohol v. Marijuana, they would be hard pressed to conclude one was any worse than the other. Legislators seem to be of the belief that marijuana is more morally corrupt than alcohol. I ask how they come to that conclusion. And how do you legislate morality? Our Declaration of Independence guarantees Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. Our constitution is designed to allow us to pursue our happiness as long as our pursuit does not step on the freedoms of others. This design was intentional to allow for many personal freedoms, for people who may use different guides for their morality. Most morality constructs are religious based. And that is fine if your religion is the one in power. Currently most of the ethics and morality we accept in the US are Judeo-Christian based. I do not see the people of America willing to live under the moral and
It is the nurse’s and pharmacist’s job to be cautious and aware of every medication they are administering by using their critical thinking skills and applying what they know to every situation. Although it is important for these individuals to be able to advocate for their patients, it also imperative that prescribers be aware of the impact they have on their patients as their actions have a domino effect. In conclusion, it is not the responsibility of a single profession to maintain safety in medication administration. It is the responsibility of everyone involved in the patient’s care. Each person who takes steps to improve the process and promote the patient as the number one priority is doing their part in refining how the healthcare system views medication
A new escalating drug abuse epidemic has come about in the recent years; people are now choosing prescription pills as their new drug of choice. The use, abuse and death caused by prescription drugs has increased significantly within the past couple years. All types of prescription pills are more easily accessible from their doctors, family members or off the street. Doctors are handing out prescriptions for pills, such as pain management pills, muscle relaxers, and anti-anxiety, like they are candy and not potentially dangerous to the consumers. In today’s society doctors are over prescribing pills to Americans and the prescription pill distribution should be more closely monitored and controlled. Although there are people who benefit
Pharmacies in the U.S. rarely get visits from the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency. It is normally the job of state authorities to handle inspections and enforcement of regulations surrounding pharmacies. However, in cases of drug diversion from pharmacies, and in certain cases of "doctor shoppers" and forged prescriptions, the DEA may become involved.
Marijuana and alcohol are the two most threatening drugs used in America today. Marijuana is the most illicit drug while alcohol is the most abused. Both were illegal during the prohibition but when the constitution was ratified in 1933 alcohol was made legal while marijuana remained illegal. It does not mean that because alcohol is still legal it’s less dangerous than marijuana. Both drugs lead to serious risks and should be taken with caution if used.
Alcohol and marijuana are two drugs commonly used and abused in the United States. Alcohol is the number one abused drug, while marijuana is number one among illegal drugs. While alcohol remains legal, and marijuana illegal, this does not necessarily mean that the alcohol is better for you. There have been many arguments where people suggest that marijuana should be legal because alcohol is more deadly. On the other hand, there are alcoholics who would tell a pothead that smoking weed is bad for you. Both substances are very bad for your health and should not be heavily used by anyone.
Also, weed has been for the most part classified as a “victimless” crime. This means that only the user is being harmed in the use of this drug. With this in mind, you can’t legislate the morality of a society when the society itself disagrees on what is actually considered moral.
Addiction is a terrible thing but if that is the reasoning for making a substance illegal than every single activity or substance that makes a person feel good should be illegal. It is possible to become addicted to any and everything: Food, video games, television even glue can turn into an addiction if it makes a person’s brain happy. It is said that natural pleasures in our lives are necessary for survival, the limbic system creates an appetite that drives you to seek out those things (“how does someone” 1). Weed has been proven time and time again to be less harmful to someone’s body than alcohol. It is less addictive; there has never been a recorded death due to the drug’s use, while people die from alcohol every day, Pot is not liked to cancer or the deterioration of brain cells and alcohol does both. So if people are so set on keeping “bud” illegal there needs to be reevaluation of whether or not Alcohol should be in the same

When you hear the words medical and recreational marijuana, what comes to your mind? Well for me when I hear those words,a lot of things come to mind such as: Weed(something you smoke), A treatment for cancer patients or those who have cancer, and a plant(herb) from the ground. All though all these things are true about both of them. There is still more to know and a lot of differences between the two. Did you know the first record of marijuana came from China. See, told you there was a lot to know about marijuana use. Both medical and recreational are still labeled as drugs in the United States.
A major concern or challenge of ABC hospital is a recent incident of medication administration error in its emergency room (ER) which almost resulted in the death of a 55-year-old female patient. This is a case of medication administration through the wrong route. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) defines a medication error as "any preventable event that may cause or lead to inappropriate medication use or patient harm while the medication is in the control of the health care professional, patient, or consumer. Such events may be related to professional practice, health care products, procedures, and systems, including prescribing; order communication; product labeling, packaging, and nomenclature; compounding;
Cigarettes are a mixture of the most dangerous substances for humans to consume and yet they are legal and mass produced so that everyone can smoke them. Marijuana on the other hand is nowhere nearly as harmful as cigarettes but is illegal and looked at as if it were far worse than cigarettes. It is long overdue that society recognizes the fact that marijuana is better for people than cigarettes by a mile. Cigarettes are extremely more addictive than marijuana, the usage patterns for marijuana cannot compare to cigarettes, and dozens of lethal chemicals are put into cigarettes whereas marijuana is a natural plant and doesn’t contain nearly as many chemicals.
In the case of legalization of marijuana in the United States, the answer is obvious. Marijuana is safer to the human body then alcohol, which is legal. Marijuana has positive medical applications, while alcohol has no positive medical applications. Alcohol also kills over 22,000 people a year from alcohol poisoning, while marijuana kills zero people a year because it is not possible to overdose. If marijuana is safer for a person then alcohol then why do they have it as an illegal substance. The legalization of marijuana is the obvious answer to the debate that is occurring across the United States.
Think for a minute about alcohol. It's something we are well accustomed to in our every day lives. We associate it with celebrations, parties, relaxation, and many other things that involve leisure. What else do we associate alcohol with? How about drunk driving and the deaths that occur as well. The thought of alcoholism and the destruction of the body as well families might spring in to mind. Now think about marijuana. Pot is something we all have been taught is next to sin. " Pot will make you stupid and lazy." "Pot will ruin your life." These might be a few examples of phrases that accompany the mentioning of the marijuana in any context, and the government has spent a lot of
There are other pharmacy staff who also have roles in relation to the safe dispensing of medicines. A pharmacist is responsible for: Overall checking of a prescription to make sure that it is legal and written by a person qualified to do so, dispensing the right quantity of the correct medicine, ensuring that medicines are correctly labelled with the person’s name, the name of the medicine and the dosage, providing advice and treatment for minor illnesses, injuries and health concerns, providing a repeat prescription service in co-operation with GP
Drinking alcohol is also much more harmful for you than marijuana is, and it too is legal. Alcohol damages your internal organs like your liver, kidneys, and circulatory system. Alcohol also has a much higher dependency than does marijuana. Tens of thousands of people are dependent on alcohol everyday sometimes ruining one’s personal and family life. Alcohol also causes you to lose your inhibitions which could get
