Childcare or “daycare” is one of the most commonly used resources among Americans in the United States. There are many options for childcare that parents could choose from. The cost of childcare has risen dramatically over the past year, and no one really knows who to blame for it. The average cost for one child in a childcare facility ranges from $100-$350 a week. The government offers families subsidies for childcare, but that’s only if your income is low. What about the hard working middle class families that are still struggling to pay the high cost of childcare? How will they provide childcare for their kids?
In the beginning, the Children’s Bureau was part of the Department of Commerce, but was later transferred to the Department of Labor in 1913. The law that brought the Children’s Bureau into existence also called for the Bureau to be headed by a Chief, who would be a Presidential appointee, subject to Senate confirmation. The first Chief of the Children's Bureau was Julia Lathrop, one of the Chicago women who helped lobby for the Illinois juvenile court. During the initial years, the Children’s Bureau took on as special projects child mortality, deaths of mothers in childbirth, child labor, and juvenile delinquency (Bradbury and Eliot, 1956). Through studies and surveys, as well as through public education programs, improvements were shown in

Some stories are very positive and interesting to hear about, while others are depressing and show us how life can be rough sometimes. In today’s society the majority of households have a family dynamic where both parents need to work. It is nearly impossible for most families in America to survive financially without two incomes. This puts many parents in a situation where they have to find extra help to watch their children while they are away at work. “These days couples face complex negotiations over work, family, child care, and housekeeping. It becomes evident that where traditional marriage through the centuries has been a partnership based on mutual dependency, modern marriage demands greater self-sufficiency” (Hekker). Day care becomes a necessity for many families, and the main concern for most parents is if the day care will be a positive experience for their
Teaching is not a lowly job as most people think. Teaching is a profession that is highly, commendable just like banking, nursing and other professions. However, some people often ridicule the teaching profession merely because of its poor pay, poor career prospects, not to mention the perceived monotony of the daily routine writing lesson plans and preparing lecture materials. Despite all these criticisms, not many teachers have defended themselves. However, in the article “I am not a babysitter,” Heather Robinson takes a stand to defend the teaching profession effectively by appealing to ethos, pathos and logos. This
My first day of babysitting wasn't my idea of a fun time. It totally changed my mind about getting up close and personal with kids while playing any sort of game or doing any activity. I started babysitting when i was 14 to make a little cash and it wasn't a big problem because i absolutely loved little kids. I babysat for my moms friend, Sarah. I've known her since i was just a toddler, so i grew up being very close to that family. Then she had a baby and i was so excited because i would have a new buddy, i was hoping for a girl but that didn't happen. So she had a little boy named Ben. He was adorable, and i have always loved little babies.. As he got a little older, Sarah needed a weekend babysitter so she came and talked to my mom

The place I decided to observe at was Watermark Community Church, where I work during the week at there weekly children's ministry care. The atmosphere they create is like that of a camp, instead of a typical daycare. The staff spend numerous amounts of time to create curriculum for the kids. The curriculum includes a bible story, a craft that goes along with the story, music/video time, coloring pages that continue on with the theme and of course games and recreational time. I enjoyed being able to just sit and observe some of the kids that I am usually teaching during the weeks. Getting to think through some of the questions and see what developmental features I had noticed before or which ones were new to me.
