. Before you read my letter I would like to give you some background information about myself. I have been in the United States for 10 years now, and my goal always was to learn English language as efficiently as I can, however, I didn’t put a lot of effort to go to a school and study the English language. I started MCTC in the fall of 2009 and I registered in ESOL 31/, after I am done with that semester I didn’t stay the school as I wanted, due to work and financial related. Then I came back in the fall, spring of 2012 to take ESOL 41/42, and then I left again in the fall of 2013 with same reasons. This year I decided to come back to the school and continue my education goals, so there has been always a gap between my classes, and any time I leave I will lose or forget what I learned, however, Since I started ESOL 51, I improved a lot in terms of my confidence in Writing, I also get help from my teacher, and he always gives me feedback about me what I need to correct, and I get help from the learning center, and smart thinking. Writing requires a lot of effort, especially writing 51, because we are required to write three Essays in this semester, and the teacher told us to improve our writing skills, and he told us that in the college level we will be required to write a lot of essays as I have never done before.
I have learned a lot in this course and I still have a lot to learn, English language is a huge language and it’s not something that I am going to learn in one
FOUN1019 is a reading and writing course that is aimed at helping students to comprehend, analyze, evaluate and think critically when engaging in academic text. Also, it will help students to write more coherently using different styles of writing that will assist them in their other courses as well as outside of academia. When I began the course FOUN1019 this semester, I had expected that by the end of the semester I would be much more proficient in English Language as it pertains to my attitude to writing. This semester was one that came with much difficulty and obstacles which I have not overcome. My teacher had so many expectations for her students and encouraged us profusely to read widely, prepare assignments and utilize the resources that the course offered. However, in my case I rarely did much of what was asked of me, hence, my unsatisfactory performance thus far. My attitude to writing was instinctual negative and as a result this posed a challenge in letting my thoughts and ideas to flow on paper. Certainly, my writing skills have been
Over the course of time, I have learned that learning is essential if you want to be successful. Whether it is about life skills or school, learning is a habit that everyone uses in a way to become successful. One of my main goals is to obtain the most out of college so that I can input what I learn in school in the outside world. Meaning that I want to learn as much as I possibly can in any course, especially in this course. I expected this course to be a review of my English class during my senior year of high school, but I extended on what I had previously learned about English. As this semester of ENG 111 ends, I can say that I have improved skills that involve grammar, structuring a paragraph with supporting details, and opening my
Being a student in Evergreen Valley College for three semesters, I have really improved my knowledge as well as my English. I went halfway through my college road. At this point, I am completely satisfied with my current accomplishment in college. To get this accomplishment, besides my endeavor, I have
I am a new transfer student from BASIS SAMC entering sophomore year of high school. Last year I took two separate English classes, Honors Language and Honors Literature, which both counted towards my English I and II EOC grades. Consequently, AP English Language would be my next course to tackle. After a constant back and forth and weighing the pros and cons, I decided to transfer here to Clark High School. I consistently grew and changed as a person during my four years at BASIS SAMC, so it is safe to say that it was not an easy decision leaving. What sealed the deal was the fact that I would have a clean state here and I could continue my academics at my own pace. Although I do still get nostalgic over the memories I have had at my previous
Entering Cal State Channel Islands was a momentous victory when it came to my acceptance. As a matter of fact, I sense I was going to improve my writing skills and be out with the old traditional habits taught to me in high school. My writing experience was identical to a metaphoric quote, “kill two birds with one stone.” The stone symbolize when I abolished the five sentence per paragraph policy. The two birds represented writing techniques and understanding how to express myself onto a paper. Unfortunately, the only English classes I have ever taken in my higher education were English 102 and English 103. Consequently, from what I can recall, I was intellectually and writing constantly about my opinions based on certain topics. When it came
Now, two months into the semester, I realize that though the work may not be challenging, this course acts as a calm refresher to the past two years of struggle that I faced in English.
After completing English 1101, I expected English 1102 to be easier. When I started doing the work in the class and taking tests, I realized that the work was a little more challenging. Now that I have finished the second part of this course, I really have grown to like reading and writing. This course is a great course to take because it has given me a lot of knowledge on how to write a great paper, and it taught me there is a lot of things to write about.
Harriet Tubman once said, “Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world” (brainyquote.com). This quote is always inspiring to me, since I can see my own life experience through it. Studying in the United States has been my dream since I was young. During the first semester of my freshman year, UCWR110, the university writing class, makes me feel the essence of the quote. Thanks to UCWR110, I have improved my reading strength, my patience in reading in English as a second language, as well as my passion in writing in English. I realize that writing plays an important role in my everyday study and it is a key to my dream.
The last piece of paper I will refer to was the comparison paper. In the comparison paper I felt I also learned about two influential women from two very different periods and also enjoyed connecting and comparing the two. Through these pieces of work I feel I've improved my grammar and spelling and also have learned how to write in English a paper that requires investigation and expressing thoughts, something that I've never done before. Before this semester the last time I wrote in English was 9 years ago and even then I don’t remember myself ever writing an essay, mostly un-seens and book reports. I feel that next semester in need to continue to improve my writing skills. I feel that my oral skills are relatively good, but my writing skills need to improve. I feel that I am not able to really express myself in English through writing. I feel that my vocabulary and grammar are not fluent enough. I enjoy writing about topics that have to do with current events and politics. I enjoy expressing my thoughts and comparing different situations and using creativity to connect
Today I wrote this letter to introduce myself to you for the purpose of improving our collaboration during this semester. As a first son and a fifth child in the family, I’ve received many loves from my parents and my four older sisters. My family migrated from Vietnam to the United States five years ago and carried our new hopes and dreams to this place. I was having a tough time in maintaining my native language and learning English at the same time. I don’t have any interest in reading books because I‘ve never really enjoy any book that I’ve read in the past, or just because I haven’t read as much book as i thought I did. My goal for this year is to past every classes with an A. The reason is I don’t want to lose my financial aid, and
My life has changed a lot, I now know more English than before, I now know what What’s up means. I am not an English expert but, I am proud that I am part of this program because it was a key for me to learn English. Even though that there still people who does make fun of my English because I still having the Latino accent I know that with practice I can improve my pronunciation to make it better than ever. As a student I had learned a lot, especially on the English subject. In my last year of the ConnCAP program I had been taking English 1004, the college course that every Uconn freshman student have to take. By taking this course I had learn how to write an essay, new things that I did not know too much about it before. Everyday, I learn a new things that it can be use in my life, even that I sometimes can be mean with other people in this program and I had learn that perfectly. Also, that been mean with other is not right, I had learned a lot of things in this programs, not just as a student but, as a person I have a lot of things to think about it and change some of them. If it was not for the ConnCAP i probably I would not know English at this point of my
Overall, I have clearly explained why moving me to English III is the best option for you to make. My future will be greatly impacted and I deserve to be rewarded for all my hardwork. My grades are good and I always strive to be the best I can at everything. I will take your teachings with me into English III and make great use of them, I promise. Thank you for a very good
I will continue to develop my English proficiency by taking the writing classes in ASU, and read more.
Enrolled in English 5, also known as Accelerated Academic Literacies, my professor assigned a total of three essays, four in-class writings and online grammar quizzes for students to improve with their weakness in grammar. As I reflect on myself at the end of this semester on my work in my English 5 class, I am able to see clearly how much I have improved as a writer. Throughout this semester, as a student, I have cooperated in both written and typed assignments along with peer review editing with other classmates. However, with the daily journals, homework assignments and feedback my peers have given to me for essays, they not only helped me improve so much, but also helped realize my strengths and weaknesses as well.
“Welcome Class to Composition one.” Those words were voiced by my professor, Mrs. Robinson, on the first day of school. Initially, I thought to myself, do I even belong in this college course class. Before school had even begun, the stress over the summer about my English skills was eating me alive. Why? Well, in my past English classes I received A’s on all of my essays, but this college class did not seem so easy. Also, I was always fascinated by all the arts and sciences, but English never struck interest in me. I never thought that I could write any decent essays. The reason I insecure about my writing skills was because of the ACT. Since the ACT is the talk about how smart an individual is, my ACT score was not very high. As the course continued, the first essay approached quickly. I remember being stressed about this essay because of my writing insecurities. Although I managed to acquire a decent grade, I promised myself to strive to make myself a better writer. I started to read Norton Field Guide to Writing handbook also known as the yellow book, and slowly but surely started to develop knowledge of good writing skills and tips to improve my essays. This allowed me to grow as a writer and slowly my insecurities started to dwindle, and I began to gain confidence in myself. I never would've thought that the next time I took the ACT that my English score would be my highest. When getting my score back and realizing that I had improved so much, I began to wonder how I
