Interview
The person I decided to interview was Kristen. She is an RN and works at Clayton State University Health Services. The condition she picked was Bacterial Vaginosis (BV). She stated that she picked this condition because it is the most common condition she sees. Although she could not disclose the percentage of incidents, she did say that it is a lot of cases. She suggests that this condition is seen a lot because you can easily get it. Some common signs and symptoms that are associated with BV are vaginal odor, discharge, and itching. Kristen stated that most women get BV from wearing non-cotton panties, using fragrant detergent or soap, or wearing too tight pants. She treats this condition with antibiotics.
Etiology, Prevalence, and Incidence According to the CDC, “Bacterial vaginosis (BV) is a condition that happens when there is too much of certain bacteria in the vagina. This changes the normal balance of bacteria in the vagina”. (CDC, 2015) Although sex is not a true cause

Some of these risks include an increased chance of contracting HIV and increased chances of contracting STD’s. A more serious condition that can occur from untreated BV is Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID). According to the CDC, “Pelvic inflammatory disease is an infection of a woman’s reproductive organs. It is a complication often caused by some STDs, like chlamydia and gonorrhea. Other infections that are not sexually transmitted can also cause PID”. (CDC, 1999) PID can cause women to lose reproductive abilities or make it very difficult for pregnancy to occur. This leads to another serious risk of BV. Pregnant women who get BV are put at a high risk of having a premature baby. They also have a higher risk of having a baby with a low birth weight. Treatment of pregnant BV patients is very crucial in having a healthy pregnancy and
The patient tells me she thinks she has bacterial vaginosis. She had this diagnoses in the past and says it seems somewhat similar to her. She has had a little bit of discharge, which has been a [____] color. She has had really no odor associated with this discharge. It has been present for the last couple of days. Yesterday and only yesterday on one occasion did she had some burning after urination. She has not had that today at all and urination has been normal. She has not noticed any sores or redness down below but she has not really paid much attention either. She had no history of prior sores in the vaginal area. No history of an STD. She is married.
Vaginitis symptoms. At this point, it was difficult to tell because of yeast cream that she was using, what her symptoms were from. I do think based on the history, though that this is likely related to a yeast vaginitis. She was given a prescription for Diflucan 150 mg one p.o. for one dose. May repeat in one week #2 with no refills and she is aware what to watching for regarding that. She will let me know if that does not improve.
It can also increase the pregnant woman to having an ectopic pregnancy and can cause the baby to be premature (not fully developed). It is very important to get checked for Chlamydia or any other STDS (sexual transmitted diseases) frequently if you are sexual active. Anyone can be at risk for STDs if you have any type of sexual activities. Many people may believe that only when you have intercourse between a man and a women, you can just contract STDS, however that is not always the case. Bisexuals, gays, men or women who have sexual intercourse with men could get Chlamydia since it can be spread from having oral and anal

Encounter, Diseases and Epidemiological Data: The most common way to get Chlamydia is through sexual intercourse with an affected individual. Newborns may get infected by affected mothers during childbirth. Typically, it causes pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) in women, which is a result of the host’s inflammatory response. Other diseases include ocular infections such as conjunctivitis and blindness. Neonates are especially vulnerable to conjunctivitis and pneumonia if the mother is infected. Trachoma is a disease that is caused by inflammation in the conjunctiva and subsequent scarring of the cornea, which could lead to blindness.
This condition is caused by bacteria. It is passed from an infected partner during sexual activity. This contact could be with the genitals, mouth, or rectal area.
Chlamydia is the most common sexually transmitted disease in the United States. Most people who have chlamydia don’t know that they have it because they have no symptoms at first. According to my understanding, Chlamydia is not as serious as some of the other sexually transmitted diseases since it is curable. Although it’s a curable disease, it could cause major complications both in men and women. In the following essay, we are going to learn ways in which chlamydia is contracted and how it is prevented and cured.
The Professional Guide to Diseases states that Pelvic Inflammatory Disease refers to a variety of infections of the female reproductive organs. It can affect the uterus, fallopian tubes, ovaries and nearby tissues. PID is most commonly
The CDC reports that 10-15% of cases in women result in persistent infections, which can lead to cancers.
Vulvovaginal candidiasis is one of the most prevalent vaginal infections and represents, approximately 40%–50% of all cases of infectious vulvovaginitis [22]. The prevalence of RVVC among childbearing women and its importance as an Egyptian public health problem make an interest to continue research on such cases to add deep knowledge on RVVC and to understand the behavior of its pathogen and its epidemiology within Egyptian patients [23]. RVVC and its control by MBL was studied previously, but unfortunately none of the published papers discussed such cases in Egyptian patients. In an attempt to fill this gap, this study was designed on 118 childbearing Egyptian women to find out new therapeutic strategy for RVVC.
Other vaginal infections such as bacterial Vaginosis; common sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) like gonorrhea, Chlamydia and Trichomoniasis; Human Papillomavirus (HPV) infections that cause genital warts and can lead to cervical cancer; Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID)
most common result of untreated gonorrhea is PID, a serious infection of the female reproductive
It affects 3-5% of pregnant women and it is one of major reasons associated with maternal-fetal mortality. In severe cases red blood hemolysis, low platelet count, edema, kidney and liver dysfunction can happen. (Turner K & Hammed AB, 2017).
Vulvovaginitis: If you develop an infection or excessive inflammation of the vagina or vulva tissues, you can be diagnosed with a common condition called vulvovaginitis. This condition has a number of causes, including poor hygiene, bacteria, viruses, yeasts and sexually transmitted diseases. Symptoms of vulvovaginitis can include vaginal itching and inflammation, abnormal vaginal discharge, urinary discomfort or unpleasant vaginal odor. Treatment of this condition typically involves the use of antifungal or antibiotic medications (oral or
