Balancing work and school are very similar to balancing sports and school. For both, you have to find time to study and do homework in the small amount of free time that you have either before or after school. Although unlike sports, you can get a free sixth period so that you can have a little bit more time to study or work on any homework or projects through work experience. Work experience is a class that allows you to leave after fifth period as long as you show up two days a week before school starts to show your teacher your pay stubs. I had to construct my time wisely in order to get my school work completed,
However I still think it is crucial to have a balance so I do make time for my self. The hardest part for me was organizing my time, as Cottrell says “Know when and where you should be for scheduled classes, events and tests.” (2012, p.14) And this for me is vital because of the structure and getting into a routine.
“Balancing school and work has never been hard for me, Chance said. “I was a straight A student, had a straight and I had a consistent work schedule. School, work, homework, and studying getting home around 1:00 a.m. everyday”. Chanetris Chance, was on the deans list all throughout her time here at Florida A&M University.
Here are some of the pros for working while in school. you don't have to take out any student loans because you are making the money to pay for the classes. It gives you real life experience about how to juggle between different items that you will be doing in life. it also keeps you motivated to continue on your educational path because you don't want to do the job that you're in right now.
However, the 2008 National Survey of Student Engagement showed that working while in school was positively connected with student engagement. In addition, a 2009 Beginning Postsecondary Students longitudinal study showed that students who worked 1-12 hours a week had higher Bachelor’s degree attainment rates than students who did not work.
