Matt de la Peña has a captivating read with “Ball don’t Lie.” This is a feel-good book that will be a big hit among other basketball players. However it isn’t just for basketball fans. The dynamic storyline will have any reader unable to put the book down. 17 year old “Sticky” has spent most of his life in multiple foster homes after viewing his mom dead in their bathtub. He has had a rough life, and he knows it, but all he ever wants to know is basketball. Fortunately, he has been blessed with some amazing basketball talent. That even gets the “real-deal” hoopers at the local recreation center to pick him up for their daily 5 on 5 games. Sticky believes basketball is his way out. But, getting out will require him to ditch his unlawful ways and earn respect from his foster families. On top of all this, Sticky has an embarrassing case of OCD and a girlfriend named “Anh-Thu” that almost seems to be too good for him. …show more content…

He receives advice and guidance from all of the “guys” at the court. As the reader, it gets a bit difficult remembering all of the names of the different players. As they all have very different personalities and different relationships with Sticky. Additionally, the book tends to jump years every chapter. For example, right after a chapter that was in present time, Matt de la Peña traveled back in time to when Sticky was begging for money on the streets, just for his mom to use for drugs. This is certainly annoying and confusing, especially at the beginning, but it gets easier to follow as the book goes on. In contrast, I did enjoy the stories in the
